When attempting to use the Webmin Perl Modules section to install dbi and dbd::mysql, (or any other perl module for that matter) I get the error: "Invalid CPAN modules URL" I've checked the module config which points to: http://www.cpan.org/authors/id This happens to be an open directory. Was Webmin expecting something else? -- find / -name "*base*" -user your -print |xargs 'chown us' |

Hallo All, I've problem with the BIND-Module of Webmin (1.230) running on Trustix 2.2. There is always the button "Start Name Server" even if BIND is already running. If BIND isn't running I can start it by clicking this button. If BIND is already running and I click on the button, nothing happens. (I think in the background BIND says that it's already running) I've checked if webmin "knows" the right path to the PID-File of BIND. But the path was correct. Does anyone know the solution or at least have an idea what could be the problem. Thanks Mat |

Jamie, OK I've updated that module, and edited that setting and unfortunately it still comes up with the same error? Ok, try installing the updated version from: http://www.webmin.com/uupdates/changepass-1.160-1.wbm.gz and then editing that same config file, and changing the mailbox=1 line to mailbox=0 - Jamie On 29/Sep/2005 19:38 Rob Thomas wrote .. > Hi Jamie, > That line was already set to 0 so thats no it. Ok, I think I know what the problem is now..
The module is attempting to also update the MySQL and mailbox passwords
for the user, but this fails because it is calling the Usermin MySQL and
Read Mail modules, which assume the user has a home directory!
You may be able to solve this by editing /etc/usermin/changepass/config
and changing the mysql=1 line to mysql=0 .

Jamie, Wow, the view thing is totally new to me. I have the old O'Reilly. I believe my Tao boxes have Bind 9 as a default. I assume you are talking about the main bind webmin module and not the bind 9 webmin module, so I'll take a look tomorrow when I get back to work. Can my view zones on this new server be the same zones as those on the public DNS servers? Can I have my cnpapers.com zone published to the public ethernet on my public DNS servers with my 216.30.205.* addresses and redefined it on the private DNS server as 10.* addresses? Have I described this as you mean it? Could you correct me if I have stated any of this inaccurately, please? Thanks for Webmin, the fast reply, and the knowledge you distribute so frequently. Hi Stewart,
The best way to set this up would be to install BIND version 9, which has support for views. A view is a set of domains that are only visible to certain clients, such as those on the 10.* network.
You can set this up completely from within Webmin's BIND module..

I'd like to setup a DNS server just for my servers behind our firewalls. I would like this server to provide behind-the-firewall addresses so our servers wouldn't have to rely on the public DNS servers which we also run, eliminating host file entries and resolving some requests that don't use the host file, and to avoid going out and back in through our firewalls for our own requests.
Are there any suggestions (gotchas) on what might be useful when setting this up through Webmin? I only want our servers to consult the public DNS servers for any domains not owned by us, but keep all requests for our domains on our 10.0.0 network.
I know this is a common setup and is probably not going to cause me any problems, but I would like to know mostly of any Webmin things that I need to be aware of as I go through the setup. I plan on changing all of the resolv.conf files on the servers, adding this new server to the top, and mostly just adding the master domain and reverse files from the real public servers, and then changing the IPs. I do not want any transfers to or from this new server. The new server will not be registered anywhere.
Any suggestions and tips would be appreciated.

Please install the the slave-server with all settings you need and then go back to the main page of the bind-module and restart the bind-service completely. It would be handy for you if you would open up a console and do a "tail -f /path/to/syslog" to actually see if the zone is being taken or not. I have a Debian Sarge Bind9 installed which has a slave-zone from a Windows DNS-Server which is the primary one without any problems. bis dahin/kind regards Martin Mewes -- Oberhalb der Kulminationspunkte forstwirtschaftlicher Bestaende tendieren die Dezibelwerte gegen den Nullpunkt. http://www.larsschuette.de/ -> Klugscheisser ;-) |

Hello all, I've just downloaded the most recent version of webmin-minimal and the bind8 module. I need to set up a slave zone that gets its information from a old non-bind server. This old server doesn't know anything about keys and secure communications. When I try a forced update I get the error about the rndc not being setup. Is there an option somewhere that I can set to use a non-secure transfer or other hack I might use? I tried an older version of webmin some time ago and I thought I had gotten a transfer to work. __________________________________ Yahoo! I'd like to setup a DNS server just for my servers behind our firewalls. I = would like this server to provide behind-the-firewall addresses so our serv= ers wouldn't have to rely on the public DNS servers which we also run, elim= inating host file entries and resolving some requests that don't use the ho= st file, and to avoid going out and back in through our firewalls for our o= wn requests. Are there any suggestions (gotchas) on what might be useful when setting th= is up through Webmin? I only want our servers to consult the public DNS ser= vers for any domains not owned by us, but keep all requests for our domains= on our 10.0.0 network. I know this is a common setup and is probably not going to cause me any pro= blems, but I would like to know mostly of any Webmin things that I need to = be aware of as I go through the setup. I plan on changing all of the resolv= .conf files on the servers, adding this new server to the top, and mostly j= ust adding the master domain and reverse files from the real public servers= , and then changing the IPs. I do not want any transfers to or from this ne= w server. The new server will not be registered anywhere. Any suggestions and tips would be appreciated. Steve Campbell cam...@cn... Please ignore the orginal error message as I've edited some of the
messages for my domain. But the real default usermin error message is
....
Failed to change password : Failed to create /home/{user id}/.usermin
: No such file or directory
Now even though our users don't have home directories they do have
them set under their account. Confusing I know and not very tidy but
thats the way it used to work. Also, just to highlight again, the
password does in fact get changed even though this message is
displayed. I've set the change password module to use pam instead of
direct file manipulation if that makes any difference.
Cheers

Thanks ...
Could you tell me what the exact error message that you are seeing is? I
want to track down where it is coming from, so the wording is
important..

Hi Jamie,
Yes I'm using the standard Change Passwords module in 1.160. I can
also confirm that it happens in 1.150 too but as my colleague didn't
tell me users were getting this failure message it could also be
happening in previous releases.
Cheers for your help on this and the effort you put into Webmin and
Usermin, they are really great tools.

Hi Rob,
This may be a bug that has crept into the 1.160 release of Usermin..
Are you using the Change Passwords module to do the password change,
or some other module?

Hi,
Been using Usermin for a few years now to allow users to change their
password on our Linux-Samba domain and its been working perfectly.
However I've just noticed that when using the latest version 1.160
that we are getting a failed message ....
Failed to change {domain name} domain password : Failed to create
/home/{userid}/.usermin : No such file or directory
The password is changed ok. I've tracked this down to the fact that
our users don't have home directories. It looks as though Usermin
wants to create a .usermin/mailbox in their home directory. Is this
behaviour by design and can we disable it in some way? I'm also not
sure which version of Usermin this started happening as someone else
has been managing the box and the upgrades and didn't notice it.
If this can't be configured then I guess my option is create the users
home directories.
Cheers
Rob

Hi, i use a SuSE SLES 9 and they offer a pam_unix2.conf, which itself uses ldap as you can see here.
