Basically, it means that Virtualmin will generate the DNS records automatically based on the features you select for a virtual server, and will not add any custom records. In 99% of cases, this is what most admins want.. > I guess this is OK but what is it? Also, I noticed none of my virtual > servers are listed in named.conf. Previously, they were. Hi Thomas, Webmin will always put new domains in a separate file, as they are also listed separately in the named.conf file. The proper way to update the secondary is for it to also have a slave domain with the same name, fetched from the master. If you are using Virtualmin and want to create a domain like demo.foo.com, it may be better to not select the 'DNS' feature at all, and instead manually add an A entry for demo to the existing foo.com domain. - Jamie On Sat, 2005-10-01 at 08:56, Thomas Leavitt wrote: > I've set up a "demo" sub-server/sub-domain, to host demonstration > projects and client prototypes... > > the URL to access these is "demo.godmomasforge.com" > > *normally*, in an unmanaged/unautomated situation, I would put the DNS > entries for this in the same file as I do for the root domain and it's > sub-hosts (www.godmomasforge.com, ftp.godmomasforge.com, etc.) > > This is what I expected Webmin to do. > > Instead, however, it created a separate file... which the secondary DNS > server never picked up (since it is not managed), because I didn't > expect to have to configure it to do so (this has resulted in a very > puzzled customer whose attempts to access the demo site have failed > inconsistently). > > I'm assuming that putting this stuff in a separate file isn't a > technical issue (since it works, on the main server)... but should > webmin be doing this? > > Also, instead of renaming or over-writing existing /etc/httpd/conf/vhost > files when a domain is created (not imported), it appears to be > appending to them... renaming the file would seem to make more sense, > because the result appears to be that the new configuration directives > are ignored in favor of the existing ones. > > Regards, > Thomas Leavitt > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: > Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, > and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl > - > Forwarded by the Webmin mailing list at web...@li... > To remove yourself from this list, go to > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/webadmin-list |

Have you looked into using the strftime format code feature, which can be enabled on the Module Config page? You can then use codes like %d for the day of the month or %a for the day of the week in the backup destination. - Jamie |

Stuff done with wbmtranslator will be processed at a higher level. Current release: 0.6.0 (2005/05/19) http://wbmtranslator.labs.libre-entreprise.org/wbmtranslator.wbm.gz Virtualmin has gone Virtualmin Pro: Jamie Cameron and Joe Cooper founded Virtualmin Inc. Please visit: http://www.virtualmin.com/ for details ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ E-Mail-Address for sending in translations to Webmin has changed. Please send in all stuff to tra...@we... in the future. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ###################################################################### Original: http://webmin.mamemu.de/modules.html#newlang ###################################################################### TOC: 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin 2. Using wbmtranslator 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? 4. Special Hint ###################################################################### 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... so that they can include it in the main Webmin distribution. The best way to tar up everything is with the command : tar czf /tmp/translation.tar.gz \ */lang/sw lang/sw */module.info \ */config.info.sw */help/*.sw.html ###################################################################### 2. Using wbmtranslator This is a module by Emmanuel Saracco which can be downloaded here: http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ It consists of an easy to use webinterface in order to update current translations or setup new languages. Last not least it enables you to officially send in translations to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... ###################################################################### 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? Yes (by Jamie Cameron) There is a way to do this - create a lang/ subdirectory under your theme with the usual en, de and other files. Then in your theme CGIs or .pl, use code like : %mytext = &load_language("my-theme-directory"); print "<b>$mytext{'something'}</b> <p>\n"; ###################################################################### 4. Special hint /usr/libexec/webmin/lang/en <original> feedback_desc2=This feedback will be sent to the developer of Webmin, not your system administrator, ISP or hosting company. I've set up a "demo" sub-server/sub-domain, to host demonstration projects and client prototypes... the URL to access these is "demo.godmomasforge.com" *normally*, in an unmanaged/unautomated situation, I would put the DNS entries for this in the same file as I do for the root domain and it's sub-hosts (www.godmomasforge.com, ftp.godmomasforge.com, etc.) This is what I expected Webmin to do. Instead, however, it created a separate file... which the secondary DNS server never picked up (since it is not managed), because I didn't expect to have to configure it to do so (this has resulted in a very puzzled customer whose attempts to access the demo site have failed inconsistently). I'm assuming that putting this stuff in a separate file isn't a technical issue (since it works, on the main server)... but should webmin be doing this? Also, instead of renaming or over-writing existing /etc/httpd/conf/vhost files when a domain is created (not imported), it appears to be appending to them... renaming the file would seem to make more sense, because the result appears to be that the new configuration directives are ignored in favor of the existing ones. I'm getting the following error in the browser when trying to write a change to a crontab using the webmin crontab edit function: /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/bin/perl: Undefined symbol "PL_exit_flags" crontab: "/usr/local/lib/webmin/cron/cron_editor.pl" exited with status 1 A Google search turns up some articles about Perl being broken after a 5.8.7 upgrade on FreeBSD (I'm running FreeBSD 4.11), but before tearing apart my Perl install, I thought I would see if anyone has seen such and knows what causes it in this case. I'm not seeing any other odd behavior from Perl, for what its worth. Thanks! -- Mark Edwards ma...@an... cell: +46704070332 |

Hi Vincent,
Unless your Webmin module is dealing with huge amounts of data, the most common cause of an 'out of memory' error is infinite recursion in a Perl function. Under Perl, if a function calls itself endlessly, this will use up all available memory and eventually cause the CGI to terminate.

Subj: [webmin-l] out of memory message
Date: Sat 1 Oct 2005 1:16 am

Hello,
I have a question about use of memory with PERL/Webmin.
I write 9000 lines in PERL string variable (execute by AIX server) with
a webmin module and I send this string to my HTML client. My program
stop and I have a "out of memory" message in my log file.
How I can correct this problem ? Is it a PERL memory problem ?
Thanks.
Have a nice week-end.
Vincent

Hello, Apparently there have been some changes in virtualmin that I have not noticed. Previously, I'm sure VM was creating DNS records for virtual servers, however now it is not. In Server Tmplates under the BIND DNS records for new domains, the box is now blank. The checkbox, Record mode, Add to automatically generated records is now checked. I guess this is OK but what is it? Also, I noticed none of my virtual servers are listed in named.conf. Previously, they were. I don't know if these are related but everything is still working. Any ideas? TIA |

According to the 3rd edition Sendmail book from O'Reilly, you can select a subset of queued messages to process. This is on page 462, section 11.8.2.3. You can select by the queue id, recipient, sender or any combination of those options. /usr/sbin/sendmail -qIj8UFRokM015345 or just use a substring /usr/sbin/sendmail -qIj8URok Should flush the message with the queue id of j8UFRokM015345. You can also negate the selection (in Sendmail 8.12 and above) /usr/sbin/sendmail -q\!Ij8UFRokM015345 So, it should be possible in Webmin to select a message and have a flush selected button. For it to really be unique, I think it would have to display all three fields and/or a job number. The move up/down interface seems like a more elegant direction though, because it would be easier to display and modify the connections based on a parent/child relationship, and they would all display in the correct order in the summary table. I guess I could create separate jobs for each day of the week, for example, and then they would automatically overwrite the file from the previous week. But setting that up for multiple directories would be cumbersome. For example, all of these jobs would have to be created separately: home-mon home-tues home-wed ... etc-mon etc-tues etc-wed ... same for var, usr, etc.... Is there an easier way to accomplish something like this, or am I asking too much of this module? Thanks, Alan |

Since you recommend against using this feature (which I agree with), then can it be disabled by default for new installations? Most people won't know to turn it off manually, and it would increase security by disabling it.
