[webmin-l] converting slave zones to master and vice-versa

Hello,

There is an option on a zone by zone basis that lets you convert a slave 
zone to a master and a master to a slave zone. How difficult would this 
be to add when viewing all domains so one could convert a bunch of 
domains at once?

The reason I am asking is we are moving from MS DNS (yes I know!) to 
Bind on a Webmin administrated box. Our plan for now is to set all the 
zones up as secondaries (using the import function) then we need to 
convert them all to master zones once we bring the MS DNS machine down.

Any suggestions welcome.

 I am trying to install webmin on a Windows box.

 I installed

ActivePerl-5.8.7.815-MSWin32-x86-211909.msi
nmake15 for Windows
Process.exe
sc.exe

Then, via MCPAN:

perl -MCPAN -e "install Win32::Daemon::Simple"

Which requires other two modules (automatically downloaded and nmake
processed.)

Now if I run again
perl -MCPAN -e "install Win32::Daemon::Simple"
the answer is
CPAN: Storable loaded ok
Going to read \.cpan\Metadata
  Database was generated on Wed, 21 Dec 2005 08:08:29 GMT
Win32::Daemon::Simple is up to date.


If I run perl setup.pl, then choose d:\etc\webmin and d:\var\webmin, I see
a lot of error (i think about 75, the number of OS available....)

then in C:\temp I find the file  973876_1_  , containing

C:\temp>type  973876_1_
os_type='windows'
os_version='xp'
real_os_type='Windows'
real_os_version='XP'

Everything is ok till now.

and I see (very last lines of setup.pl output:)

...(omissis)
Operating system name:    Windows
Operating system version: XP

ERROR: The Perl module Win32::Daemon::Simple must be installed to run
Webmin on
Windows

What can I try to do ????

Unfortunately there is no way to do this at the moment .. however, the
next release of Usermin will include a preferences page option to enable
the 'Delete All' button, which will appear below the mail list.

The Read Mail module in Webmin allows the addition of a "delete all mail" 
button for the account holder's use.  I would really like to have that 
option in UserMin, and can't seem to find it.  I am on Usermin version 1.180 
and have the most recent Read Mail module installed as of today 12/20/2005.

Ah .. you are right, that is definately a Webmin bug. I will fix this in the
next release..

Thanks for pointing this out .. this is a bug in the module that only
effects SuSE 10.0. However, if you download the updated module from
http://www.webmin.com/updates.html the button should appear..

Hard to say .. perhaps what happens is that Virtualmin sends out the new
account email and then creates the mailbox, and it depends on whether
Sendmail delivers the mail first, or Virtualmin creates the file.

Ok, I didn't realize that .. well, in the next release of Virtualmin I
will zero out quotas when deleting users.

I'm not seeing any problems... I just thought it was odd...
But why would the mail file sometimes be created by Webmin/Virtualmin and other times be created by sendmail?

Maybe I didn't delete them but I was able to get them to not show in the Quota module using:

setquota -u 600 0 0 0 0 /

Where 600 is the uid

One of the main areas covered was ACLs. That's an area I've not spent a 
lot of time with... and long story there, but I can tell you to NOT 
switch RPM sources on a working Webmin system.... I still have a bit of 
a mess laying around, but doing this wrecked a lot of my settings, of 
which the ACLs I had done before... enough of that one.

I don't remember if it was on this list on during the webinar, but 
someone mentioned setting the ACLs to minimal by default and then 
allowing additions, instead of setting them to a fairly broad access and 
having to trim them back. I think this was a great idea.

During the question and answer portion, I was able to get some good 
answers to my wishes for usermin and the limits laid out for usermin. So 
I'm still thinking about a best way to deal with users and email while 
keeping it simple for the user.

Beyond the presentation, several people were able to get questions 
answered.. ideas posed.. in a much faster medium than email.

Hi all,
I just installed webmin 1.250 on a newly installed Suse Linux 10 box.

I installed the  webmin-1.250-1.noarch.rpm package

Everything is OK, as it ever was, but if I go to Network configuration,
Network Interfaces, I cannot see the "Apply configuration" button.

(I have 2 network cards configured, both static ip address and startup at
boot time.)

No problems with the same package on Suse Linux 8.1, 9.2 and 9.3 (but all
of theme were updated, not fresh installed...)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That error should usually only happen if the slave is running an old version
of Webmin. Try going to the Webmin Servers Index module on the master server,
clicking on the (edit) links for each of the slaves, and making sure their versions
are displayed properly ..

I am running webmin 1.250 on my 3 name servers. This morning I have tried=

add a new domain and have it synced to the cluster slave servers.

I Have an error message that my one slave is not running webmin ..

My guess is that those owned by uid:gid were created by Webmin or
Virtualmin, while those owned by the mail group were created by your
mail server when mail for the account first arrives. Both should work

This isn't really a bug .. 
Unix disk quotas cannot actually be deleted - instead, they are just
ignored if the UID does not own any files, and will be over-written when
a new user is created with the same UID.

The Pro version of Virtualmin has this exact feature already :)
I will be backported to the GPL version some time in future though,
although I will need to cleanup and synchronize the code between the two
versions first..

Bug 1:

Mail spool files aren't created consistently. This may be an OS problem(FC2), but I'm not sure.

Some files in /var/spool/mail are created as being owned by uid.gid and some are created as being owned by uid.gid-of-mail.
I can't seem to find a pattern to it... Some of each instance have been on the server fir a year plus and some have just been created recently...

Any ideas?

Bug 2:

When deleting a domain via Virtualmin, disk quota entries are not being removed. When you look at the quotas, any users or groups that have been deleted are still there but they are now listed by their uid or gid and cannot be removed via the Quota module. It has to be done from the command line...

Feature request:

Would it be possible to have a Virtualmin module to install web site applications like OSCommerce or PHPBB?

It went OK .. it would have been nicer to have more attendees, but it
was an interesting proof of concept for the future.

I didn't see that discussion, but I'm not sure how this could be caused
by Webmin. The actual transfer of records from a master to slave is done
completely by BIND, and in all the instanced I have seen it either
transfers all records, or none of them.

Check the log file (usually /var/log/messages) on the slave server when
a transfer is done, to see if any error is logged for the problem zone..

I have run into a few that cannot create the mail file automatically,
particularly those that use ~/Maildir ... what's why I added the option
in Webmin to create it automatically.

However, when using Sendmail and delivering to /var/mail/USERNAME, the
file will be created for the user when mail arrives..
