Another thing you might want to try (if it's not too much effort) is downloading and compiling Perl manually, rather than using the FreeBSD packaged version. I believe that someone reported success with this .. - Jamie |

Actually, I just realized that this is already possible. On the module's access control page, you can set a directory that backups are limited to. The only catch is that the user to write backups as must be set to 'root' , to reflect the fact that scheduled backups are always done as root. - Jamie |

The reason is that this all scheduled backups are done as root, and allowing any user to setup his own would let potentially un-trusted users write to any file on the system with root privileges .. which would be a serious security hole. - Jamie |

Hi Gerard, Another thing you could try is turning off SSL and PAM in Webmin. This can be done by editing the file /etc/webmin/minisev.conf and adding the lines: ssl=0 no_pam=1 Then trying to start it with /etc/webmin/start - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: Gerard Seibert <ge...@se...> Subj: Re: [webmin-l] Unable to start Webmin Date: Thu 29 Dec 2005 12:59 pm Size: 881 bytes To: web...@li... From what I can tell, there are no missing modules that Webmin would need. What I do not understand is why Perl is core dumping. I have the perl.core dump file, but I have no idea what to do with it. I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. I am not about to dump my system and start over. Hi Gerard,
I have seen this problem reported once or twice before, always on FreeBSD. I beleive the solution is to make sure you are running the latest version of Perl, and that any modules that Webmin uses (like Net::SSLeay and Authen::PAM) are up to date.

I am running, or rather attempting to run Webmin on a computer running
FreeBSD 5.4 with Perl 5.8.7_2 installed. I can install Webmin fine from
the ports collections. The problem comes when I attempt to run the
'setup.sh' file.
This is the file's output:

Gerard, I had a similar issue a while back installing some RAID controller software on FreeBSD 4.10. I tried, and tried, and tried, ... to get an answer on what causes "Segmentation" fault(s). Noone worth noting had an answer that I would consider consise or reliable. It is still a mystery to me to this day. The closest answer I got that made any sense at all was a bad memory stick - even that sounded flakey. I hope you have better luck than I did. -Grant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerard Seibert" <ge...@se...> To: "Webmin" <web...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 3:58 PM Subject: [webmin-l] Unable to start Webmin >I am running, or rather attempting to run Webmin on a computer running >FreeBSD 5.4 with Perl 5.8.7_2 installed. I am running, or rather attempting to run Webmin on a computer running
FreeBSD 5.4 with Perl 5.8.7_2 installed. I can install Webmin fine from
the ports collections. The problem comes when I attempt to run the
'setup.sh' file.
This is the file's output:

web server already using this port.
- The login name required to access the web server.
- The password required to access the web server.
- If the webserver should use SSL (if your system supports it).
- Whether to start webmin at boot time.

Obviously, I have X's out any confidential information.
I have tried to completely remove Webmin and reinstall it, but without
success. I have also removed and reinstalled Perl, but that did not
alleviate the problem either.
I am open to any suggestions.

Is it possible to allow users to perform scheduled database backups -- not just on-demand? It seems to me I can schedule them as administrator but not as an ordinary user -- have I missed a switch? |

Hi Christer,
There should be an option on the Module Config page to turn on a button =
for
deleting all mail in a mailbox. Failing that, you could just delete the
actual mail file manually.
To prevent masses of mail from your cron jobs in future, enter the =
command
as :
/users/user/sites/xxx.php >/dev/null 2>&1

You shouldn't need to, assuming that Webmin wasn't running under Apache in the first place (which is not the default setup). However, make sure that Webmin is actually running - you can restart it by logging in as root via SSH or at the console and running : /etc/webmin/stop /etc/webmin/start - Jamie |

I agree this would be a great addition to Usermin. It is one of the first and most heavily downloaded plugins to SquirrelMail, so that would be a great place to see how it is done. They do use JavaScript along with encrypted persistent cookies to store the drafts: http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=8 Alan On 12/26/2005 3:22 PM, Jamie Cameron wrote: > That would be cool ... any idea how gmail implements it though? no.. no idea... I was looking at it from the user's perspective ;) I can tell you that my old Dell Latitude XPi CD laptop (Pentium 1 150MHz, 32MB ram, win 98 second edition using IE 6.0) can handle it without problems. Once I'm back at home.. I will consult with a friend that works with java a lot :) Happy Holidays! check the whois for your ip... it will tell you which DNS it uses for resolution!!!!.... you will probably need to ask your service provider to change the dns servers for that ip... or perhaps they will dor the reverse for you (in their dns servers) Cheers!
