I think you'd have a hard time running a PHP application like Kronolith under Virtualmin, as it probably depends on Apache's mod_php. Then again, it may work .. you could try just copying the Horde directory somewhere under the Webmin root, and accessing it. - Jamie On Sat, 2006-01-14 at 20:45, Marcos Rubinstein wrote: > can Kronolith (or any other) run on webmin *instead* than apache??? my > goal is a minimalistic system... only those > services really needed running! can Kronolith (or any other) run on webmin *instead* than apache??? my goal is a minimalistic system... only those services really needed running! (and it's for a mail server). Dear Friends, I need to manage Apache serveralias using Webmin or via any other means. Actually i want to give the configuration of ServerAlias Directive to mine users. So that many customers websites can be directed to mine site. I will be maintainig the database MySQL for that. Now i want to ask that can i give this configuration in mySQL and can Apache read it from there or that via a file or via Webmin. Via webmin than is it possible that i can just call a url via mine script with the parameters and the httpd.conf or any othe file is modified. Pl. do guide me towards that. Thanks for your time and effort. -- Thanks and kind regards, Abhishek jain |

I use Webmin for everthing on my Linux boxes and have recently had a client ask be for up time reports. What is everyone else using? Is there a Webmin solution for this? Is there a way to have uptime reports sent from Webmin, daily, weekly, etc? If not is there anyone that knows of a GNU solutions (meaning one that doesn't cost me a ton of money)? Thanks |

However, after playing with Horde and Kronolith, I am beginning to think that it may not be necessary .. Kronolith is already an excellent shared web-based Calendar, so there isn't much point re-inventing the wheel right now. - Jamie |

I had bit of bother with an SSL I was working on at the turn of the year. I meant to ask on here about it but it slipped my mind to mention it and this has reminded me! I had an old site on an Ensim box and I was moving the site to a new box running Webmin and when I moved the SSL certs over to the new box it worked fine. Then I generated a new certificate for the site and sent it off to Geotrust and using they sent me back a message saying the CSR wasn't 128bit. I tried in vain to recreate the certificate by manually entering the key size but it didn't make any difference - it always generated the smaller default size key. When I applied the certificate I got from Geotrust Apache refused to start - due to the anomaly in the key/certificate. I got round it by generating a new CSR on the old Ensim box and moving the SSL to the Webmin one. I'm guessing this might be the problem you are having - as when I first ordered my certificate through the automated process all seemed well and they issued me with a 128bit certificate but it fell over and when I talked to a support engineer at Geotrust the problem was discovered to be the smaller key size. I might be missing something obvious but I don't see anyway other than manually entering the bigger size in the SSL management section of Virtualmin of getting 128bit CSR's. Hope this helps a bit and if someone could set me straight on generating these CSR's correctly I'd be much obliged as I've a few coming up which are on Webmin boxes which were moved directly over from Ensim boxes and I'll need to regenerate new CSR's for them on the Webmin system later in the year. That's because Cron just calls the 'mail' program, which doesn't give as much control over the email headers as webmin can achieve by calling the real sendmail/postfix/qmail mail injection program.. > I did play around with clustering my webmins, so it's possible it got > the setting from the one that's not running ZMailer. > > Speaking of which, ZMailer places a sendmail replacement at > /usr/sbin/sendmail (on Debian) - so if the mail setup included an option > to specify the sendmail location I could get out of having to say "use > smtp". (Which, again, bugs me since it seems unnecessary! :-) You can adjust this in the Sendmail Configuration module, on the Module Config page. However, it would probably still complain about not being able to find sendmail.cf , and so assume that Sendmail is not installed. - Jamie |

I think that a calendar/events module would be an incredible addition to usermin! (more if it has some kind of "shared calendars" and a "central calendar")... this sugestion came from users. I did see many GPL calendars based on perl... one on apache mod_perl... it is possible to port them to usermin??? (the question cames becuase I'm doing my best to *not* to run apache in that server, a dedicated e-mail server) Cheers! Marcos |

Jamie: I get the "no mail program was found on your system!" from the cron generated by the backup module (fsdump). The ironic thing is that the message is actually mailed to me! Clearly the cron daemon can find sendmail even if the backup script cannot. I did play around with clustering my webmins, so it's possible it got the setting from the one that's not running ZMailer. Speaking of which, ZMailer places a sendmail replacement at /usr/sbin/sendmail (on Debian) - so if the mail setup included an option to specify the sendmail location I could get out of having to say "use smtp". (Which, again, bugs me since it seems unnecessary! :-) Thanks for your help. Neal |

I probably won't be adding zmailer any time soon, so using SMTP is the best option .. and it will work fine. - Jamie |

Hello all, I am getting the following error when trying to upgrade Webmin. Not sure what to do on my server to fix the problem. I suspect the problem is not with Webmin, rather it is with the rpm app on the server. Running whitebox (aka rhel 3.x) on this machine. Thanks ----- *Failed to upgrade from www.webmin.com : RPM signature verification failed : rpmdb: Program version 4.2 doesn't match environment version error: db4 error(22) from dbenv->open: Invalid argument error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Invalid argument (22) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm /tmp/.webmin/840119_1_upgrade.cgi: md5 (GPG) NOT OK (MISSING KEYS: GPG#11f63c51) * ------ |

Jamie: =20 I'm not entirely sure what I did... but I managed to break webmin cron/backup's ability to send status email. I receive this error: =20 Error ----- No mail program was found on your system! ----- =20 I found a post indicating this is a "read user mail" misconfiguration, so I have fixed that. I'm cross-posting this to the webmin list as well as the debian list as webmin played a critical role in my success. I've seen asked before and googling does not help. Here's how I just switched over a server from ide to a compag dl380 with smart array 3200 scsi card. Install base system on target machine. Install webmin On running server, install webmin. go to system/file-system backup make a backup to the local machine in /backup include these directorys /etc /var /usr /root /home /sbin In "Backup to file or tape device" I put /backup/backup In "extra command line perimeters" I put --exclude=/etc/fstab --exclude=/etc/network When done, fish or scp the file to the target machine to a directory called /backup example scp line scp (source) destination scp root@machine:\backup\backup /backup/ Now on the target machine open webmin go to system/filesystem backup - choose restore In "file or tape device" put /backup/backup restore file permissions = yes Then restore and reboot the machine... ****** Now then, folks may tell you, you don't need things like sbin or maybe /var/spool. Courier imap complained about sbin and postfix complained about spool.. There has to be better ways of doing this, but this is what FINALLY worked for me. Suggestions are welcome! |
