We have an issue here while performing an upgrade to our Red Hat EL3 machine. Before the upgrade, the Linux Firewall module is used to disable access to port 25 (the existing Accept rule is set to Reject). After the upgrade, when the Linux Firewall module is used to turn port 25 back on (change the Reject to Accept), we get the following error: Failed to apply configuration : Flushing firewall rules: [ OK ] Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter mangle nat [ OK ] Unloading iptables modules: [ OK ] Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore v1.2.8: Unknown arg `--reject-with' Error occured at line: 42 Try `iptables-restore -h' or 'iptables-restore --help' for more information. [FAILED] Any idea what the problem might be? BTW, part of the upgrade also upgrades Webmin from version 1.170 to 1.250. Thanks Dave Isaacs |

Hi all, Just a quickie. How do we set the idle timeout for FTP connections? The current 300 seconds is frustrating. I've set proftp to 3600 to no avail and even added a keepalive setting to the Apache conf directives. thanks, Dan *************** Being a conservative is not an illness **************** |

Thanks again Jamie it seems to have started working now think maybe i was trying to recreate the same site over and over. I am finally getting somewhere with virtualmin now it is very overwhelming at first but now that i got some stuff working i can just break off small pieces at at time. Some amazing features that should make my life alot easier but right now it is kinda like relearning everything i already know. Got some questions but gonna play around first. ps thanku thanku thanku ----- Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> wrote: > Hi Ryan, > Does anything get logged to /var/log/miniserv.error ? I had the same problem. This won't help you with the issue of not wanting to do it by hand, but does document the workaround: From Jamie on 2/18: ------------------------------- I looked into this some more, and found the cause of this problem - the sending server isn't properly getting the UDP port to send to from it's own configuration. The work-around is to add the line listen=[Your Port] to the file /etc/webmin/servers/config on the sending system. -----Original Message----- From: web...@li... What happens if there is a simple typo when a legitimate sender is trying to contact a legitimate user on your server? Think in terms of the post office. If you use a bad to address and have a return address, the post office returns the mail to you. The lack of a bounce lets the sender know the mail was accepted for delivery. > If it is, how to do that through the Webmin? > Or, is there a better way to prevent being on a BlackList? > This is a very indepth question. You should set aside a day or more to do some googling on the subject. Start with checking your reverse DNS using a tool such as http://dnsreport.com or http://dnsstuff.com to be sure you mailsystem is setup properly. Then consider asking for whitelisting on systems such as AOL and then see what you can do about staying off of other blacklists. Also, make sure you don't in fact have spam originating from your system, perhaps a hacked form? a bad user? But this simple little question really is horrid one right now and really not within the scope of Webmin. Unfortunately, there are a lot of broken mail systems out there right now, such as yahoo's mail, with will blacklist you for a period of time if you bounce forged from addresses when yahoo, as used so often by dictionary attacks on mailsystems. Good luck! It isn't easy. Good day. I'm installing a server according to Hornford's How-To. http://www.hornfordassociates.com/pages/documents/howto/linux/ perimeter_centos_howto-2.html When I use "Create a new Webmin user" for sysadmin, I am not able to login as sysadmin. I've followed to the letter, and I am able to https: login as root, and I can switch to sysadmin. Has anyone else had this problem? --r |

The server I'm trying to maintain gets into black list from time to = time. I think that it's due to lots of BOUNCED mail. (As I understand BOUNCED = mail is a mail to return to some address in case of unsuccesful = delivery)? Is it usual to prevent mail to be bounced? If it is, how to do that through the Webmin? Or, is there a better way to prevent being on a BlackList? Regards, Perisa Andjelic PS Laugh on my questions, but help please! |

Hi Ravi,
The only solution to this is to always delete the database only from with=
in Virtualmin. This can be done on the Edit Databases page.

Ok, it looks like a directory is being copied over using its temp name, instead of the correct domain-based named. Which version of Virtualmin do you have there? Also, what mode did you select for the 'Backup format' ? - Jamie |
