Could you give more details about what goes wrong exactly?
What error message or incorrect behaviour are you getting?

Thanks for pointing this out .. this is a bug in Webmin, which will be
fixed in the next release.

Well this is not an issue of Webmin really as Webmin can be installed =
from
tar.gz and works. There simply is no maintainer anymore at Debian to pack
Webmin/Usermin etcpp into debs.

The last thing I know was a project on alioth in order to have a =
packaging
team for Webmin but I do not know its status. Maybe you should ask
debian-devel or debian-mentors to get more information.

[webmin-l] User permission problems

Hi

I am managing over 500 domains over 3 machines using the webmin bind modu=
le. I
have a problem now where users cannot delete records.

For example when trying to delete a record from a certain domain, the use=
r
gets the following error
"Failed to delete records : None selected"

I have logged into this user account and setup some test domains. I recei=
ve
the same error when trying to delete a record. This applies for any recor=
d.

In the ACL for this user, he is allowed to edit all records and also has =
the
permission to delete the domain.

When looking at the webmin http log, I can see it gets to the part where =
the
confirmation is asked to delete the record.

[webmin-l] .debs for Etch/Dapper

  After noticing that webmin has disappeared from both Debian testing 
(ie. Etch) and Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) I'm guessing that webmin has missed 
the freeze and won't make the next release of Ubuntu (scheduled for 
June) and is in serious danger of falling out of the next Debian release 
also.  If this is what is happening it's a real shame, but I understand 
maintaining webmin packages would be a huge job.

  Does anyone know of any work being done towards webmin in Debian?

That is rather odd ...
How is asterix involved here - is it proxying or using port 10000 in any way?
Also, are you running Webmin via any kind of proxy or other web server like Apache?

Just installed webmin 1.270

Changed my /asterisk/rtp.conf to not use ports 10000 and 20000

when I try http://sip.host:10000 the webmin login comes up, I log in and....

Webmin page loads but then things hang on loading the icons.

OK.  Why when I don't have icon loading problems at other sites????

I just tested this on my own Webmin 1.270 system, and the file appeared
just fine in the File Manager. Did you try reloading the directory after
creating the file? Webmin will cache directory contents until you explitly
reload then ..

I just noticed something interesting after setting up an HP-UX ignite
server. The filemanager does not show backup images that ignite has
saved with the name format "xxxx-xx-xx,xx:xx" ex. 2006-05-12,14:02. I
did a touch 2007-06-11,15:22 and this file shows up in the file manager.

I want to use Webmin to manage LDAP users and groups. The standard LDAP
Users and Groups module correctly shows the users and groups I have
created with another LDAP-Admin Tool. The OpenLDAP server works fine,
but when I try to add a new user with webmin I get the following error
message:

Failed to save user : Failed to add user to LDAP database : no
structural object class provided

System configuration:

Debian 3.1
slapd 2.2.23-8

The updates are patches to 1.270, so you need to install them after upgrading
to 1.270. This can be done automatically in the Webmin Configuration module
under Upgrade Webmin though.

Check in Webmin in the Users and Groups module to make sure that his 'Expiry date'
and 'Maximum days' and 'Inactive days' are all empty. These can prevent logins if
set incorrectly..

Also, can this user login via SSH or FTP?

Are you sure he is logging in with the correct password? And that his password
hasn't expired?

logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty= ruser= rhost=  user=sheffiel"

where sheffiel is the user in question. non of my other users report a
problem, and i can login via webmin to his usermin account.

As in what application?  We have a Lawson application system that uses the =
LDAP to authenticate it's web portal access through.  We have used Sun =
One's Directory Server to manage the database, but rumor has it that it =
will soon be moving to something other LDAP DS.=20

FYI, Lawson is a competitor with PeopleSoft, etc. and is very good in the =
Healthcare marketplace.

Unfortunately you are out of luck, at least with the current design of the =
module. It was written to manage posixAccount class user, and although it =
can manage some slight variations on this (like Qmail+LDAP users or Samba =
users), those that don't have UIDs or GIDs at all will cause problems.

Just out of curiousity, what created this LDAP database that you are =
trying to change passwords in?

Luckily, Webmin does support proxies for its own downloads. You can set =
this up by going to the Webmin Configuration module, clicking on the =
Proxy Servers icon, and entering a proxy URL like =

users setting up their own aliases. Jamie says it can not be done, because
doing aliases, involves the access to the file aliases , and regular users
can't do it.

But what about doing someking of workflow process? Something like this :

User' point of view

-         user logs in

-         user sets up the aliases he wants

-         the users aliases are stored in a temporary webmin file 

Administrator's point of view

-         administrator logs in

-         goes to the option of users aliases for a specific domain

-         reviews the changes that are in "queue"

-         approves the aliases --> and the contents of the temporary aliases
file goes to the aliases file itself

-         disapproves some aliases --> and the temporary aliases file is
cleared up

 

Is it possible to do it, or am i asking for too much?
