Another suggestion. Not that this is the exact same as you were
wanting to do, but just might give you the same results.
You can set your my.ini file to "--skip-networking". See description
from man pages below.
--skip-networking
Don't listen for TCP/IP connections at all. All
interaction with mysqld must be made via named pipes or shared
memory (on Windows) or Unix socket files (on Unix). This
option is highly recommended for systems where only
local clients are allowed. See Section 5.6, How MySQL Uses DNS.

You could achieve the same effect with a firewall rule to block connections to the mysql port (3306) on other interfaces though. - Jamie |

Hi JC, Below is some issue that I found in your tutorial: 1. many picture wrong, such as: picture of DHCP show the picture of Apache (pages 364) 2. "Dynamic DNS Update Style" is not on the Subnet edit page but on the main module. 3. Default Client Options in DHCP section must refer ro main module (there is also Default Client Options in the Subnet page). -- God Bless Us -- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yes, I you knew the php codes run as apache user permission and it can access all public_html dirs of all sites and view their php codes. so imagine that all sites using mysql + php codes . then anyone who have access to the 1 site can access all mysql databases and it is really dangerous. I think the permanent solution is to run php for each virtualhosts as their own uid ! but this matter discussed before and you have to run php as CGI and this is not good for customers. therefore disabling these command would be a workaround. _Hamid Jamie Cameron wrote: > Hi all, > This change would disable various PHP functions for executing > commands, which would protect against some PHP security holes I guess > (such as ones where an attacker can trick PHP into running arbitrary > code). Hi all,<br />This change would disable various PHP functions for executing commands, which would protect against some PHP security holes I guess (such as ones where an attacker can trick PHP into running arbitrary code). However, it may also break PHP programs that use these functions to run other shell commands... so it isn't something I would enable by default for Virtualmin.<br /><br />=A0- Jamie<br /><br />On 12/Aug/2006 15:24 Vernon wrote .. <blockquote type=3D"cite"> <font size=3D"2">Not sure who you are. Hi ,
Just want to say please add the following line to you php.ini while you
are running virtualmin and you have some sites hosted on your server :
disable_functions =
exec,popen,shell_exec,proc_open,passthru,system,stream_select,escapeshellcmd,pcntl_exec
or run you php in safe_mode. BTW safe_mode is not a good choice for
customers.

There is a rare bug in Usermin that can cause this. The fix is to edit the file /etc/usermin/mailbox/config and change the index_dbm line to index_dbm=2 . But the /$HOME/mail/.imap/spam not created when I access using Email Client (which usually automatic created when I am using commercial Email Server such as MDaemon and Exchange). My last questions: - Do I need to create the ../spam directory manually? or this directory will automatic created as soon a spam coming to the user mailbox? - When using Devocot, is not right using /$HOME/mail/spam because Devocot uses /$HOME/mail/.imap. So, must be using /$HOME/mail/.imap/spam, right? - We can use EICAR test file to test viruses, is there a way to test that above anti-spam work correctly? I already try to copy-paste some Spam Email from my "MS Exchange IMAP-Spam folder" to "Postfix Email Server-IMAP-Inbox" using Outlook Express but the spam mail still in the /$HOME/mail/.imap/INBOX. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? On the Webmin tutorial by Jamie C, page 613 (or 629 of 808): --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Create a new action that feeds mail to the program /usr/bin/spamassassin (or wherever it is located on your system). Make sure the Wait for action program to finish, and check result and Action program is a filter boxes are checked. No conditions should be entered, unless you want to turn off spam checking for certain messages. 2. Add a second action with the single condition Matches regular expression ^X-Spam- Status: Yes. This special header is set by SpamAssassin on messages that exceed its spam threshold. The delivery mode can be to append to the file /dev/null to throw away all spam, or to something like $HOME/spam to place it in a different mail file for users to skim through and delete. --------------------------------------------------------------- the #2 paragraph missing what action should be taken? What "Delivery mode" should I choose to complete step #2? Should I create a second action as described on step #2 or just add the condition to previous action on step #1? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Jamie, For the last couple days, when Virtualmin runs /etc/webmin/virtual-server/backup.pl I get the following error: Missing file to read at main::/usr/libexec/webmin/virtual-server/feature-ftp.pl line 267 I am also getting the e-mail saying that the backup was completed fine This is on FC 5. I haven't done any updates to Webmin/Usermin or any modules for about 2 weeks now, so no changes there... I normally use SSH for the automated backup but the other day I did a backup of one domain using FTP... Would that cause it? Brian |

Email doesn't actually get sent unless a scheduled backup is run, not when you start it from the browser. You can start a scheduled backup manually by running the command /etc/webmin/fsdump/backup.pl XXXX as root at the shell prompt, where XXXX is the backup ID number. - Jamie |

perhaps it *could* be done with -M (--multi-volume) I found this in the TAR info: ================================================================== `--info-script=script-name' (`-F script-name') is like `--multi-volume' (`-M'), except that tar does not prompt you directly to change media volumes when a volume is full--instead, tar runs commands you have stored in script-name. This option can be used to broadcast messages such as `Someone please come change my tape' when performing unattended backups. When script-name is done, tar will assume that the media has been changed. ================================================================== it is not clear if you could indicate the size of the volume with -F, but even if that's not possible, perhaps creating a small partition and writing the tgz there would work. (then instead of the broadcast message, one could ftp to the backup server and then rm the local tgz) with ssh conection, I did use -M . In one case to avoid files > 2GB, in another to be able to later download the tgz to a box and put them in CDs. hope it helps Cheers! marcos On Mon, 7 Aug 2006, Jamie Cameron wrote: > On 7/Aug/2006 00:54 Pat Erler wrote .. >> hi jamie, >> >> great! while you are on it, i tested a lot of backup programs which >> support ftp transfers. as i realized, the holy grail seems to be (which >> noone has found yet, i mean, it's the holy grail ;) ) to make a backup >> (and restore btw) to a remote server without firstly creating the whole >> archive locally (so that you don't need +50% free hdd space) > > Hopefully this will be possible .. assuming that the tar command calls me > FTP script in the right way. > >> it could work like this: >> >> 1) start multiple splits backup >> 2) when backup part$1 filesize=x >> 2-1) pause backup >> 2-2) move part$1 to remote server (then delete it) >> 3) goto 1) >> >> for restore, this is what i wrote to one of the developers of a commercial >> solution (which doesn't offer it): >> >> ==cut-- >> - i have a multi-volume tgz backup on an ftp server >> - i have not enough room on the target server (the one on which the >> restoration of the data will happen) to download first all archives and >> than extract them >> >> so what can i do here? ideally i would download the first volume, do a >> >> gunzip -c -S "" ./backup.tar.gzaa |tar -C ./ -xf - >> >> when the first one is extracted i delete it, download the second and so >> on.. >> >> but after the first archive everything comes to a halt with >> >> gunzip: ./backup.tar.gzaa: unexpected end of file >> tar: Read 8667 bytes from - >> tar: Unexpected EOF in archive >> tar: Unexpected EOF in archive >> tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now >> ==cut-- >> >> which seems to be a limitation in gzip - maybe bzip handles it better.. >> >> anyway, thanks jamie, that you took on the problem, > > I don't think it is possible to do multi-part remote backups anyway, and > almost > certainly won't be possible to do them over FTP.. > > - Jamie > >> PAT >> >> >> >> >> >> >> On Mon, 07 Aug 2006 02:43:13 +0200, Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> >> wrote: >> >>> On 6/Aug/2006 14:54 Pat Erler wrote .. >>>> hello, >>>> >>>> in my hosting plan i have backup space which i can use with ftp, >>>> unfortunately not with ssh. are there plans to add transferring backups >>>> with ftp to the webmin filesystem backup? or, which custom command could >>>> i use from within the module to transfer my backup file with ftp to >> the >>>> backup server? >>> >>> Hi Pat, >>> That would be a nice feature, but is tricky to implement as the >>> tar and fsdump commands are designed to call ssh or rsh for remote >>> backups..
