looks like i have a problem with mysql. all database access is ok as my
sites that use mysql are running and i can use phpMyAdmin to admin the
databases but as root using

mysql -u root -p

gets me the same responce

[root@proteus2 admin]# mysql -u root -p

[webmin-l] problem with webalizer module

just upgraded webmin in this virtual server... (it is a virtual with the 
very old "freeVsd" (V not B)... basically a redhat9 )

trying to change options in webalizer... I get this message:

[webmin-l] Why there is no links from the file manager module?

Hi,
If I set usermin so as any user would be directed to the file manager module 
upon login, the user won't find links to visit other modules and he would get 
stuck, any hint?

[webmin-l] How can usermin's view apache log files

Hi,
I want to allow some users with usermin accounts to have a view over apache 
log files to fix the problems on their sites. I found a module 
called "Logfile Viewer" at 
http://webadminmodules.sourceforge.net/?page=Others but the links are not 
working so I couldn't try it. What's the recommended way to do it please?

The syntax should be something like: mysql -uroot -p
and you have to put the root password for mysql. The root user in mysql has 
nothing to do with the root user in the system. So, you have to know that 
password. Also the root/admin user for mysql is not necessarily named root.

As Jamie pointed out you have to be able to log into mysql using the command 
line.

So you can login to mysql as the user 'mysql' ?
Or do you mean you can just switch to the Unix user 'mysql' with the su command?

Can you login OK from the command line using the 'mysql' program? If so, Webmin
should be able to connect using the same username and password, which you can set
on the Module Config page.

If this still doesn't help, try changing the option on the module config page for
using DBI to No.

changed all index files to display Crackers_Child text.

we have advised all users on how to restore their sites but when i go to
webmin/mysql i get the user/password box and cannot login to the mysql
server.

so i assume user for mysql is mysql.

i tried changing the password for mysql but sill cannot get webmin to show

[webmin-l] Custom Module Errors/Module design help

This summer I built my first custom module for Webmin which also happens 
to be my first cgi script as well. I managed to get the module to do 
what I want. The only problem i am having now is when I load the module 
or add a webmin user to the module Webmin crashes and i have to restart 
it. Is there a place I can get help with debugging these things or am I 
on my own? If anybody else finds the module helpfull I would be willing 
to add it to the 3rd party modules list. The module is a wireless 
control for madwifi driven wireless nics. It has basic functionality at 
the moment but does make creating/editing interfaces nice and easy. 
Currently the module can create and destroy VAPs, use wireless-tools to 
edit the interface settings (wep and wpa are not supported yet), 
supports setting up multiple VAPS on a single interface, and does a 
couple iwpriv tricks like scanning for APs, listing connected peers when 
in AP mode. I think with some help from a person with more experience 
the module could be a viable solution for some folks.

If your changes are general purpose and you think others may benefit from
them, you could submit a patch to me for inclusion into the next release.
Otherwise, you could create your own copy of the module with commands like :

cp -r changepass changepass-custom
cp -r /etc/webmin/changepass /etc/webmin/changepass-custom

And then using Usermin Configuration -> Available Modules page to take
away access to the original module, and grant access to the new one.
When Usermin is upgraded, your copy of the module will not be touched.

[webmin-l] Webmin Windows XP Pro install problem

Hi again,
	I have emailed Jamie off-list about this, but am hoping 
someone may be able to assist with this one - I'm a happy long-time 
user of Webmin under Mac OSX & various *nix OS, but I have a client 
whose web server I set up, running Apache 2.x on Windows XP 
Professional - no problem there.
	He now has a need to offer some password protected 
directories, using basic authentication, so my first thought was to 
use Webmin, as the config files are pretty much identical to *nix 
versions & Apache is really the only thing that it needs to control.
	So, I downloaded the .zip file, expanded it to c:\webmin, 
ensured I have the appropriate extra files such as Win32::Daemon 
etc... installed - again no problem.
	However, when I issue the command perl setup.pl, I get the 
following output:

anyone outline what may need to be done.
	I found the same errors in the archives, but no solutions yet 
- any assistance would be much appreciated.

I would recommend the later versions. Even though the author of the doc
tested with those older releases of the modules, I'm certain that Webmin
will run with newer versions (which are probably more reliable / secure).

Authen-PAM-0.15.tar.gz

But these instructions are for OS X 10.3, and there are newer 
versions of each module. My question: should I use the version

You are right, it's a bug in that theme. Unfortunately I don't use it much
myself, and it hasn't been maintained lately, so I didn't notice this one..

Yes, I am using 1.22. But now I changed the theme and everything is ok. Could 
the problem be because of
msctheme-enhanced/theme.pl: has this line
         &tab_start; print "<a href=\"/config.cgi?$module_name\">",
?
shouldn't it be uconfig.cgi instead?

I don't see this in the latest version of Usermin, but I seem to recall that
this bug existed in older releases. Are you running version 1.220?

Thanks for that file - I see the problem now. In your schema, gn is an alias
for givenName, so Webmin detects that they are both valid and tries to set them
both - which of course fails, because it is setting the same attribute twice!

To fix this, edit the file ldap-useradmin/save_user.cgi under the Webmin root,
and replace the name_fields function with :

I downloaded that and still get the same error.  Version 1.273 works and

Thx for the hint !!!

Setting "Use DBI to connect if available?'  to 'No'. did the trick.
Next step is to update DBI::mysql module. Really appreciate your help.
