I guess that all depends on what you want your FTP server to do. If you just want to allow domain owners to login and manage their files, almost any FTP server will work fine .. although personally I prefer proftpd as it has better integration with Webmin. - Jamie On 23/Aug/2006 08:41 Barry wrote .. > Thanks Jamie - > > I might need that eventually for some domains, so good to know. > > Any tips on configuration options for virtual hosting with vsftpd? > Currently googling, haven't found anything that makes sense yet... > > Best, > > Barry > > > > Jamie Cameron wrote: > > That plugin isn't actually for managing vsftpd fully - instead, it just > > allows you to enable a vsftpd virtual IP anonymous FTP server for a domain > > in Virtualmin. Thanks Jamie - I might need that eventually for some domains, so good to know. Any tips on configuration options for virtual hosting with vsftpd? That plugin isn't actually for managing vsftpd fully - instead, it just allows you to enable a vsftpd virtual IP anonymous FTP server for a domain in Virtualmin. Which is probably not what you are looking for .. - Jamie On 23/Aug/2006 07:43 Barry wrote .. > Thanks John - > > I installed vsftpd and the vsftpd module - yes, pretty plain. Thanks John - I installed vsftpd and the vsftpd module - yes, pretty plain. But should be OK. I also installed Jamie's vsftpd module for virtualmin. When I installed, the install output said it was "hidden". which it dies seem to be since I can not locate how to configure it. Any tips? Hi all - I am running a centos 4.3 system with a bunch of virtual domains. Latest webmin 1.290, just upgraded to virtualmin gpl tonight. Until now there has been no ftp server installed on this system. I'd like to have virtual domains, automiatically configured for new virtual servers, and willing to do old ones byhand to get them launched although if it happened automatically that would be good too. Any recommendations on ftp servers that are up to the task and have a nice webmin interface? How will I go about getting the old virtual servers set up? And as long as I am at it, I plan to add webmail capabilities soon too - any recommendations for applications? preferably with webmin modules too, and also would be good if old domains can be brought on board relatively easily.... Thanks! Barry |

Hi again, I posted to the list over the weekend & it may have been lost amongst the other threads, so I'll try again. I have run Webmin on OSX & other *nix variants for a long time, n problems with installation etc.... However, I have a client who needs an automated method to administer password protected directories on Apache under Windows XP Professional & I cannot find any other tool to do it for Windows other than Webmin, which is my preferred choice anyway. However, I have been as yet unable to get Webmin installed, with the same errors as other people have posted but I have been unable to find a solution. The process to get it installed so far is as follows: 1 - Install Activestate Perl - latest version 2 - Download/extract Webmin .zip file to C:\webmin 3 - On a command prompt enter - perl setup.pl 4 - Output from Webmin setup script is: Perl seems to be installed OK This is followed by: a number of 'The system cannot find the path specified', followed by 'Failed to create temp directory C:\DOCUMEN~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp At Jamie's suggestion, I have tried changing the path to temp to C:\temp & also tried c:\tmp, but the error stays pretty much the same - an empty directory gets created in C:\etc\ called Webmin & also C:\var\ - so the script begins to run it's course, but something is hanging it up. To answer the first question, yes, I am running as an administrator user & I have also logged in as Administrator just to see if that worked but no luck yet. Has anyone successfully overcome these obstacles & if so, could they please post to the list or to my address directly - I have been unable to find any further answers to this - any help is very much appreciated. -- Bye for now, Terry Allen ___________________________________________________________________ hEARd Postal Address: hEARd, 26B Glenning Rd, Glenning Valley, NSW 2261, Australia Internet - WWW: http://heard.com.au http://itavservices.com EMAIL: hm...@oz... Yes, you could use a command-line program that calls Webmin
functions to do this. I would recommend putting it in the base
directory (typically /usr/libexec/webmin), and coding it like :
#!/usr/bin/perl
$no_acl_check++;
$ENV{'WEBMIN_CONFIG'} ||= "/etc/webmin";
$ENV{'WEBMIN_VAR'} ||= "/var/webmin";
if ($0 =~ /^(.*\/)[^\/]+$/) {
chdir($1);
}
chop($pwd = `pwd`);
$0 = "$pwd/create-users.pl";
require './web-lib-lib.pl';
$< == 0 || die "create-users.pl must be run as root";
&foreign_require("useradmin", "user-lib.pl");
&useradmin::making_changes();
while(<STDIN>) {
# Parse user and create object
$user = { ... };
&useradmin::create_user($user);
}
&useradmin::made_changes();

It is hard to find the cause of this without seeing exactly what functions are being called by Webmin.. Hmm .. I wasn't able to test this feature, as I don't run an IMAP server
with quota support myself. Any change I could login to yours to test the
get/set quota commands?

Hi, I need to migrate some users from an old UNIX system to a Linux box. Since I need to do a number of operations, eg. copy user files, I have decided to write a Perl script to automate the task. To simplify things and to take advantage of some of Webmin's functionality, I would like to have my script call the Webmin "save_user.cgi" script to add the users to the Linux box. My script will run on the Linux box and do the following:- 1) read a line from the password file 2) parse the line to extract things like username, enc_password 3) call Webmin's "save_user.cgi" to add new user to linux box 4) rcp user's files from old box to new directories on Linux box 5) chown and chgrp user's files Is it feasible (or even possible) to use the Webmin module in this way? If it is possible, what do I need to do to ensure that the Webmin script will run correctly, eg. setting environment variables. Regards ! -- Carlton ============================= |

Hi Jamie,
The patch above fixed the gn/givenName issue. I found I had to disable
the default IMAP quota value in this module for it to attempt to set a
new quota value - perhaps it should override the default anyway. The
result of trying to set a custom IMAP quota for a user with a numeric
value in the field is the error below:
The user was saved successfully in the LDAP database, but an IMAP error
occurred : Failed to set IMAP quota : Invalid quota list in Setquota
Also the value in the IMAP quota field for any existing user is always
0. Perhaps the format of both the set and get values is incorrect.

Hi, I want to allow some users with usermin accounts to have a view over apache log files to fix the problems on their sites. I found a module called "Logfile Viewer" at http://webadminmodules.sourceforge.net/?page=Others but the links are not working so I couldn't try it. What's the recommended way to do it please? -- Munzir Taha Telecommunications and Electronics Engineer Maintainer of Fedora Arabic Translation Project https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-trans-ar Maintainer of the OpenBugs project page at http://www.arabic-fedora.org/munzir/OpenBugs.html Master CIW Designer, ICDL, MOUS, Linux+, LPI 101 Riyadh, SA |

So, the problem is if the browser has no java support. I would prefer it if the top links are kept in place as the case with all other modules. Do you think this worth fixing? What sort of monitor should I create to check a given directory's total size, and trigger when it exceeds a given value? Is it the "check file".. and then just supply the full path of the directory to check without the trailing backslash? It doesn't seem to work. I want the specified directory and all of its sub-directories to be included in the count. -joho |

Regarding the crashing, check if anything gets logged in /var/webmin/miniserv.error when it happens. Also, try logging in as root and running the following commands to re-start Webmin : /etc/webmin/stop ; /etc/webmin/start Then take whatever action causes it to crash, and see if any messages appear in the shell window. - Jamie - Jamie |
