Yes..

In that case, both firewalls would have to allow the traffic - but only
from the central to the node.

In the BIND module configuration, everything looks right, and Webmin does not complain about anything. But when I try to add a BIND monitor, it claims the service is stopped. The pid file is there (and "live"), the executables are there, the data directory is there (Webmin can properly list all zones and what not), etc. But for some reason, it thinks the daemon is not active.. ? What am I doing wrong? :-) -joho |

Hello!
OK; so if I move it to 8080, we're talking 8080 + 8081-8180?
And for #2, they're both behind firewalls, but not the same firewall.
This is for running Webmin on a remote site (the "node"), reporting/communi=
cating with our webmin ("central).

The port Webmin uses for inter-system communication is always the one that
you login to it on, which is typically 10000. So you would have to allow tr=
affic
on port 10000 to the node through the firewall.
Also, if you want to use 'fast RPC' mode, you should also open ports 10001-=
10100.

So are both node and central behind the firewall? If so, it wouldn't even
come into play ..

I think I asked this question before, but cannot find the answer. Scenario 1: Two webmins, one "central" and one "node". The "node" is on a Linux firewall machine, the "central" is on a Linux machine behind a firewall. I want these two to communicate securely, using a given port (say 8080 instead of 10000). What do I need to open on the firewalls for these two to be able to communicate securerly, issue fast RPC commands, etc.? Scenario 2: Similar to the above, but "node" is on a Linux samba server behind the above mentioned Linux firewall, I want it to communicate with the "central" webmin in the same way as described above. Hints/configurations/tips are welcome. -joho |

That worked. Thank you for jumping on it so quickly.

Ok, that explains it .. I see the bug now.
I've released an update to the BIND module at
http://www.webmin.com/updates.html to fix this problem.

Mine says Records file /var/named/slaves/sitename.com.hosts. I'm assuming
that you mean None would be selected if there is not option to convert to

If you don't mind most CGI scripts running as whichever user Apache runs as (IIRC you're on Debian - so www-data), you should be fine. I've run into similar troubles trying to run some webscripting myself; the difference was I *wanted* to run as the webserver user instead of my own account. <g> (Among other issues.) -kgd |

There must be another way for it to not display.

There is only one case in which it wouldn't appear - for slave zones that
don't write records to a file.
You can configure this on that same Edit Zone Options page.
