Hi all, I have spent a lot of time getting the Bind8 DNS modules to work = (cluster) on my master and slave server. THe only question (I think!) that I have now is: When I add/update/delete a zone on the master server, how to configure = the master to tell the slave to reconfig or reload the zone? (The slave named.conf is being updated, but the changes are not being = made active automaticaly). -Grant |

Yes, I have run Webmin on Ubuntu myself.. You can check which users get granted access to new modules by going to the Webmin Configuration page, clicking on Upgrade Webmin, and seeing what usernames are in the 'New module grants' field. The root user should be listed.. - Jamie |

Hi Jamie, On Virtualmin's Server Templates, if I choose any template and changed the 'Edit template section:' option, the page refresh automatically so there is no need for that 'change' button to the right of the option, am I wrong? -- Munzir Taha Telecommunications and Electronics Engineer Maintainer of Fedora Arabic Translation Project https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-trans-ar Maintainer of the OpenBugs project page at http://www.arabic-fedora.org/munzir/OpenBugs.html Master CIW Designer, ICDL, MOUS, Linux+, LPI 101 Riyadh, SA |

Hi Jamie, I am reading on http://www.swelltech.com/support/webminguide-1.0/ch10.html and noticed that all the Figures from 10.1 to 10.6 are not found. Can you please fix it or forward it the person responsible of it? I didn't realize the rest of Usermin was included in the backup already and didn't realize I had hit upon the only item that wasn't. Funny! Thanks for clearing this up for me. I'll have to look at perhaps doing Squirrelmail through the interface.. or just continue to do a second little rsync on those few config files. It really no big deal there. I'm trying to not have crap strewn all over the place and highly 'specialized', where I'll forget it in three or four years when the next time to move a particular hosting account comes along. And again, thanks for making my life much easier with the Webmin/Usermin interfaces. Best, John Hinton |

Yeah, that isn't going to be included in the Virtualmin backup any time soon. If you were running Squirrelmail installed into a virtual server's directory then it would be backed up, but programs that store their data elsewhere are tough to handle.. > As for the scheduled emails... > > I don't allow my users access to most of Usermin, only a few minor > functions.. most of mail, mysql, disk quotas and Sys Docs. I wonder if perhaps even the Usermin data in > the Usermin directory should be considered if you are thinking of adding > this type of function? Usermin generally stores everything in users' ~/.usermin directories, which will get included in Virtualmin backups. These cron jobs for scheduled emails were an exception, but that is the only one I can think of.. > Some global thinking might be in order here, at least for sure with > regards to Usermin. For arbitrary files like this, I would recommend just using the Filesystem Backup module. Virtualmin backups are generally on a per-domain basis, and a global Squirrelmail config doesn't fit into any domain. - Jamie |

That's all I see on my system, but there might be more depending on other modules. <username>.* should get all files for any particular user. is the default path on RHEL systems. As for the scheduled emails... I don't allow my users access to most of Usermin, only a few minor functions.. most of mail, mysql, disk quotas and Sys Docs. I must admit that I haven't used very much within Usermin and don't know offhand if more 'customization' is available in other modules within that interface but I suspect there are. I wonder if perhaps even the Usermin data in the Usermin directory should be considered if you are thinking of adding this type of function? Some global thinking might be in order here, at least for sure with regards to Usermin. As for Squirrelmail.. well, I would frankly understand if you just turned your nose up at that request as it is so far removed from Virtualmin and what you do. Also, due the the number of other Webmail interfaces available on the varying OSs. But it sure would be nice. Best, John Hinton |

I think the proper solution would be to update Virtualmin to include all that missing data. For scheduled emails, I need to include mailbox users' cron jobs, which isn't too hard. For squirrelmail I'm not sure ... do you know where on the filesystem they get saved? - Jamie |

Jamie, So far I've been really successful with doing backups using the backup function built into Virtualmin. I use this for moving accounts from one server to another, for instance at the point where an old box is being retired or whatever. For me, on CentOS, this leaves a couple of items which need to be done by hand... outside of Virtualmin control. One, is our default installation of SquirrelMail. Address books and other user customized functions get left behind. Also, the same for Usermin. Some things like for instance scheduled emails are left on the old server. It would be nice to be able to catch these couple of items in the backup and perhaps something else depending on what other folks might be using. Do you have any ideas about how these types of things might be included into that backup system? What you have already created is SO wonderful for this type of maintenance... getting the offbeat items like mysql DBs as well as the all the email settings... it really is sweet and such a huge timesaver. Thanks, John Hinton |

I'm having a problem relating to postfix when I add a new virtual server = in virtualmin. I've added 10 or so virtual servers and everything has been fine. The trying to add another I get an error: ---------- Creating home directory .. . done Creating Unix group campbell .. . done Creating Unix user campbell .. . done Failed to create virtual server : Filename contains invalid characters ---------- The step after "Creating Unix user" is the Postfix configuration for the domain. This is where the problem occurs. The domain, username and passwo= rd for the virtual server I was tring to add contained only alphanumeric characters (the domain & username contained only letters; the password ha= d letters and digits). After this error, Webmin seems to have 'lost contact' with the Postfix configuration. If I go to the Postfix module and select 'General options'= , every field is filled with "/usr/sbin/postconf: /usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.14: no version information available (required by /usr/sbin/postconf)". See it here: <http://www.labradordata.ca/misc/postfixmess.gif>. I'm not using mysql fo= r Postfix (I'm using hash). Meanwhile, Postfix itself seems fine; mail is delivered as usual. There is nothing in /var/webmin/miniserv.error to give a clue what happen= ed. This is the second time in a few days this has occurred. I'm at a loss to understand what's happening. Last time I resorted to uninstalling Postfix and reinstalling, after which everything was OK (until now). Any ideas, anyone? Running CentOS 4, Webmin 1.310, Virtualmin 3.30.gpl. Doug |

From what I have seen, it replaces $ with the last octet of the IP from the range you specify. What I'm looking for is something different With the range of 20 through 25, 20 is the 1st IP. So I want $ to be replaced with the number 1 when it does the .20 IP. When it creates a record for the .21 IP, it would replace $ with the number 2. When it creates a record for .22, it would replace $ with the number 3. If all else fails, I could just stop being picky and deal with how Webmin does things currently, but I'm a bit anal retentive. I'm an idiot. I found it. Feature request however. Would it be possible to have the record generator replace something like the # character with the incremental number? Say I want to generate IP's for a customer from the range: 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.200, but I want the hostname to reflect the customer name and the IP-nth number relative to their range they have been assigned. For example 192.168.1.100 = customercorp-ip01.mydomain.com 192.168.1.101 = customercorp-ip02.mydomain.com 192.168.1.102 = customercorp-ip03.mydomain.com etc. Possible? I'll fix that in the next release .. The work-around is to create a 'Running Process' monitor that looks for a named process. - Jamie |
