Hi all,
Its been a while since the original post, but I have done a little more
reseach and am almost ready to make the change.
In summary:
I am currently hosting reverse DNS on my nameservers and have to add each
reverse IP into its own zone. This seems to be alot of unecessary work when
it *looks* like webmin would handle adding the reverse ips to an already
existing zone, and would delete the PTR record if/when the forward zone
changes.
My ISP does delegate me reverse resolution somehow. I have been
experimenting (with a small block of CIDR addresses) and it does work, and
they agree it should.
So right now I have about 11 CIDR blocks that cover about 600 IP addresses.
So my question is: If I make the full transition to using Webmins Bind8
module, will it add and remove the PTR record from the appropriate ARPA zone
when the forward DNS is added/changed/deleted?

Stone Steps has actively taken a great deal of effort to resolve a lot of the problems I started seeing with the original Webalizer. Very helpful folks, they are. http://www.stonesteps.ca/ They use the original configuration options and have added a lot more. I run RHEL 3 and need to use a script to run it due to the library requirements, but they supply all of the libraries and it's quite easy. They have all of the GEOIP stuff also. Steve Campbell |

Hello: On my Fedora Core 2 server running Webmin version 1.150, in the bind module, I can change a slave zone to a master by going to the zone options. There is a button on the bottom to do it. On my Fedora Core 5 server running Webmin version 1.310, the button is not there. Did this function disappear in 1.310? Thanks, Neil -- Neil Aggarwal, (214)986-3533, www.JAMMConsulting.com FREE! I made the mistake (?) of installing webminstat (0.10.2) as listed as a third party module on the Webmin modules pages.. for every sub-module installed (webminstat isn't offered as a single install package), I get a blank entry under "Other" in the left-hand menu navigation, and on the webmin main page I get the same appearance, a broken image with no text. So I cannot uninstall them and I cannot access them. The various directories for the modules I try to install exist under /etc/webmin, but apart from a zero-byte "config" file, there's nothing else in them. What did I do wrong? I guess the webminstat packages aren't compatible with Webmin 1.310. -joho |

Yeah, it sounds like awstats is the really only well maintained and commonly distributed option at the moment .. unless webalizer extended or one of the other webalizer follow-ons is included with a large number of operating systems. According to the README file of of Webalizer Extended (a fork), they've cleaned up a number of bugs and security issues that were present in the last released version of Webalizer. The Wikipedia page on it lists numerous forks, of which AWFFull is just one... don't know anything about how it is set up. Webalizer Extended might be more backwards compatible, config file wise... scanning through the README, it seems clear that he's simply added to what's there, rather than making major architectural changes... + New configuration keywords to control all new Webalizer Xtended features. + Bug-fix for truncated user agent strings in the "User Agents" statistics of the original Webalizer 2.01-10 (user agent fields can now be grouped correctly). + Bug-fixes for serveral other problems with truncated strings (e.g. referrers) in the original Webalizer 2.01-10. + Security bug-fixes for several buffer overflows in the original Webalizer 2.01-10. webalizer extended home page: http://www.patrickfrei.ch/webalizer/ *** Mandriva is packaging awstats for distribution, so that's what I'm going with for the moment. Seems to me that Virtualmin's maintainers might need to consider replacing webalizer as the default with another web stats package... given that code for awstats already exists, and that the package is being actively maintained (and there's a webmin module listed on their project page at sourceforge.net, even), it would seem like a logical candidate. Hi Bob, To turn off the display of indexes, you need to go to Webmin Users -> roo= t -> MySQL Database, and on the form that appears change the 'Can manage = indexes' setting to No, then click Save.
