OK, seems we were just missing a module for the i810 here. After installing VL-Light onto the hard drive, I rebooted the system with the newer .17 Cd in. Ran the gui 2 and went through the resolution setup. the xorg log showed that the module libxaa was not there. I copied libxaa.so over from the Light installation and ran xinit. I was then presented with the window manager and ran gambas2 from there, and of course ran the speedy. Seems this was all that was missing. |

I've downloaded and burned the A1.17 iso but still can't get the installer past the point after partioning. I've partioned the disk and when I hit next it just freezes. Dave |

Hello, Below are my install notes. Overall, I would say this is the best alpha tested so far - nearly flawless. User accounts were created successfully; I was able to login to KDE; many services that failed before are fixed. I still am able to reproduce several fatal errors, however it seems some have been removed (great job M0E!!). The Installer window jumping when clicking description fields still happens. I have fixed the crash reported by newtor (thanks dude) Also removed the blank row in package selection. Added support to read more than 9 partition on a drive, support for virtually unlimited number of partitions now I'm down to the user account importing issues. After this, I think we should be ready for public testing ... at least on the installer part |

So far, I can't install this at all. I've got a free partition on my laptop (/dev/sda12) which I had been using to test VL6.0 standard with KDE. However, the graphical installer doesn't show any partitions above sda9, so I can't use it. Attempting to use the text mode installer also fails - it can't find the CD. paul. |

I tested this on two systems. There's still an issue with the Intel chipset.
The system goes right into init 6 just after selecting the video resolution,
before going to the installer. Nightflier had a mobile Intel chipset with
same results. I think this is probably solved already and not yet into the
iso?
On the other system, which doesn't really have too many problems, we've
ended up with an error creating users. The error report says "error", not
much help there is it? :) I'll try to get some logging going on for next
test.

Hello John and M0E, Thanks for the explanation of the TUI installers current status; explains why I cannot continue past step 1. I'll stick with the GUI installer for testing right now. So far, it seems to be coming along nicely. M0E offered me some advise in getting my network active prior to running the installer which I will begin doing from now on. I'm snagging A1.9.17 now and will put it to test a little later. Thanks all!! Hello, I've tried the GUI installer and have finally (A1.9.16) been successful installing the release. I thought this time I'd try the old TUI installer. Hello, During boot, in addition to the previous services with problems, I noticed that wifi-radar also fails to start. On 2nd boot I did not receive either the KDM or KDE desktop issues mentioned previously. I cannot get the gslapt update notifier to start - visually. I am able to start the slapt-get-update-notifier-d but no tray icon appears. It may just be something I'm doing wrong??? wpa_gui will not start vburn-iso will not start Kpackage will not start without the SMART package manager Otherwise, I don't see any real show stoppers. The grub package is at vlcore. Also the gtkrc files to polish it up a bit. I still could not get kde to start on the last iso. Maybe you should look into that. Also, the user account import module is currently broken. Gimmie a couple of days next week to get it into shape. Guys, I hate to do this, but I just once again, finished tweaking the grub2 package. This time, I patched it up to make sure it labels our running installations correctly. Also changed it so that it doesn't generate a "recovery" entry for every os found, only for the one currently running. I'd also like to see you guys put the .initrd config files in place how about a delta? |

We have a new iso. I have updated the installer and it's source to latest in case no wired connection during install. Also there are now intel drivers included so any one running intel graphics give this a go. Seriously, I dont know what is happening with your tests... Let me ask you something... does your VM have active network connection? the ISO is built to update the installer live from SVN on boot, so if you no internet connection on the vm, you're using old installer on new iso. It appears to me that way, because of your description of the chopped X on the logo and grayed out grub option and the output from the lilo error. That is at least 2 weeks old. Before you run the installer, make sure you got internet connection ifconfig eth0 up dhcpcd eth0 cd speey svn up Then run the installer. I do appreciate your findings in my bad spelling... I will get those corrected. |
