Hello all,
Here's my notes from the install tries using the A1.9.15 ISO. I am really liking
the way things are shaping up with the GUI installer. I'm wondering if testing
this in a vmware 5.x virtual environment may be causing some of the pitfalls I'm
running into (???). Anyway, FWIW here are my notes during installation tries:
>>> Preamble: vmware virtual install; using already partitioned hard drive;
>>> custom/manual package selection. Also, in between trys I was simply
>>> restarting the installer rather than rebooting, if that makes a difference
>>> (gbr2 /root/speedy/vinstall-ng.gambas) - perhaps the 'fatal' flaw was being carried over to each new try???
>>>
>>> VectorLinux label at top not fully showing - 'x' is cut off by almost half
>>>
>>> Description: "...correct disk space for" (looks incomplete)
>>> Full Install: Install _everthing_ (spelling)
>>> Minimal: _confuguration_ (spelling)
>>> Comment: Full install has Titlecaps Titlecaps, Minimal has Titlecaps lower lower (consistency)
>>> Custom: Unselect All doesn't warn about X11 packages whereas singally unselecting X11 does.
>>> Custom: 2nd package selection page: last row is selectable but nothing is listed (remove maybe)
>>> Custom: I unselected 'hplip' and I selected the last (empty) row and
>>> received: "This application has raised an unexpected error and must abort.
>>> [-1] Key already used: 'X11'. Step8.?.0" This untimately killed the GUI installer.
>>>
>>> Next try: unselected hplip, did not select last empty row, got to
>>> Installation summary page, hit 'Back' button, hit 'next' button, and got this
>>> different fatal error: "This application has raised an unexpected error and
>>> must abort. [-1] Key already used: 'gutenprint'. Step8.?.0"
>>>
>>> Next several tries: Clicking 'back' and 'next' between the 'package
>>> selection' and 'installation summary' screens consistently causes a fatal error.
>>>
>>> Next try: If I do not click back and next between those screens then the installation continues normally.
>>>
>>> The development crew: when they first begin rolling there's a flash of black, then they roll normally
>>> The development crew: Uelsk8s - istaller (spelling)
>>>
>>> System Bootloader Configuration: Not sure why, but Grub is still grayed out
>>> on my end. If I hit 'back' I get fatal error: "This application has raised an
>>> unexpected error and must abort. [20] Bad argument. fmail.?.0"
>>>
>>> Next try: Lilo still does not install for me: "Lilo returned an error...
>>> Check your values in this step and try again". Yet, the installer still moves
>>> me forward. The values are all correct for my purposes (mbr, bootsplash-high,
>>> 5 seconds, VectorLinux-/de. One detected OS: /dev/hda1, Vector Linux 6.0 Soho
>>> Alpha 1.15 found on /dev/hda1, label: VectorLinux-/de, Initrd: initrd, Include
>>> this OS is checked. Tried changing the name to just 'linux' but no go.
>>>
>>> Entering Root Password: 'passwrord' (spelling)
>>>
>>> Creating User Account: Bottom button (Import Existing User) button is vertically cut off about half.
>>> Creating User Account: When I'm done creating a user I *assume* I'm supposed to click the 'Create User' button???
>>>
>>> Network Config: I recall a post on the forum indicating that the domain
>>> should be set to a non-live domain like (local.domain or localdomain) (maybe/maybenot)
>>>
>>> Installation Complete: It says I should click the 'Next' button to restart
>>> but the button actually says 'Reboot' (consistency)
>>>
>>> Installation Complete: When I click the 'Reboot' button I get an error message: "Reboot not yet allowed"
>>>
>>> Upon manually rebooting: I boot to CD TUI installer to install lilo
>>> ('standard' this time), and then reboot. I end up in same loop of the ncurses
>>> 'Finishing System Configuration' (answer questions, reboot, finishing system
>>> configuration, answer questions, reboot, finishing system configuration, ... ad infinitum)
>>>
>>> Haven't yet tried the TUI installer. Hope this is helpful.
If any clarification is needed I'm glad to help. Sorry for long list but they are
just notes I was keeping during installation tries.
Cheers, newt
