Which version of Tux Paint and which Operating System?


If tuxpaint 0.9.21 and Windows, try to update libsdl, maybe that will
help, see http://sourceforge.net/p/tuxpaint/bugs/171/, is not exactly
your problem but...

You may also try the last beta builds available at
http://z1.plala.jp/tuxpaint/testing/ and let us know if they solve the
problem.

despite the fact that a Hebrew font exist in tux paint,
I am unable to write Hebrew letters in text boxes.
Instead, I get question marks or squares.

I've just commited to CVS, they will be in the new upcoming version, and
in the beta builds...

I think your missing the point. The install menu should include a custom
option to install all, some or none of the fonts. It should also allow
users to designate
saving locations and to disable saving or printing at time of installation,
not done later with a config program which is inaccessible to restricted
accounts.

About not loading system fonts and run just with the ones that come with
tuxpaint, you should start tuxpaint with the "--nosysfonts" parameter.

Please check http://tuxpaint.org/docs/known_issues/ to see if there is
something that may help you.

You could also test the beta binaries for the new upcoming version at
http://z1.plala.jp/tuxpaint/testing/
and tell us if the problem you have is still there.

Not a solution but some questions:

Which OS? Linux(Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora...) Windows(XP, 7, ...) Mac...

Which version of tuxpaint?, there are builds for the current cvs version
wich hopefully will end in a new release at
http://z1.plala.jp/tuxpaint/testing/  Windows and Linux Fedora binaries,
you may want to test them if your OS matches.

Can you try to disable (in tuxpaint-config) sysfonts for tuxpaint and

[Tuxpaint-users] Reduced advertising in the Tux Paint project

Hi all, this is Bill Kendrick, original creator and lead developer of
Tux Paint.


Over the years I have 'monetized' the Tux Paint project, to help
make it "worth the effort" for me and my family.

Some of this came through obvious advertising on the tuxpaint.org
website (Google Adsense, SecretBuilders).  Some was through
less-overt advertising on the website ('sponsorship' links).

And back in 2011, I was approached by OpenCandy, a very nice and helpful
company that helps monetize software (especially free & open source software)
by providing 'recommendations' for other software to download during the
installation process.  (i.e., "you're installing Tux Paint, maybe you also
want to install Game XYZ")


Over the past few weeks, I decided to begin removing the advertising
from the Tux Paint website.  The website is hosted for free by
IO Cooperative <https://iocoop.org/>, and the project itself (source code,
downloads & bandwidth) is hosted for free by
SourceForge <https://sourceforge.net/>.  Therefore, all I pay for out of
pocket is the domain name registration and DNS.

While doing this, I had also been considering taking down the OpenCandy
version of Tux Paint -- or, at the very least, not releasing future versions
of Tux Paint with OpenCandy.

Today I noticed a bug filed against Tux Paint over at SourceForge
complaining that the OpenCandy installer should be considered adware/spyware.
I don't agree with that terminology, and I have also always provided an
OpenCandy-free installer for users (right on the same page).
However, based on this, I've decided to go ahead and take down the link to
the OpenCandy version effective today.


I want to thank OpenCandy, as well as the many other sponsors who
have helped encourage Tux Paint's development over the years. (Money = coffee)
I've tried to maintain a list of them here:

Hi Kevin,

What file did you download? If it was the installer (ending in .exe), I
would try my chance downloading the .zip version just in case was the
installer itself who poses the problems.

Otherwise I guess you or somebody else has to compile Tuxpaint for CE...

[Tuxpaint-users] one click lag on a tabletpc

Hi,

I face a strange problem on a tablet PC. It looks like there's a constant I click lag when I click anything on the screen. If I click somewhere (e.g. stamp) the stamp icon gets selected on the next click only. If I click on the left-right arrows to search for a certain stamp, or change the stamp size, I have to do an additional click somewhere else (e.g. on the bottom area where the stamp description is) to get the right panel changed and see which stamp set is current at the moment.
This behaviour affects the whole software so it's not related to stamps only but it comes up for painting, shape selection or even creating new document or quiting the software.
In Windows itself it does not come up at all, everything works as expected.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
TuxPaint for Windows: 0.9.21c
device: HP Slate 500 tablet PC

The OS has all the fixes available from Microsoft, and the latest drivers are also installed from HP.

I tried to find a workaround by modifying settings (e.g. windowed mode, full screen, etc.) but no luck with any of them. The worst was to select 'hide cursor' because the calibration went totally wrong in TuxPaint so I had to force reboot Windows (by holding power switch for 5 seconds) to eliminate TuxPaint make anything to work properly again.

Can anyone help with this?

I'm under the assumption that they haven't been packaged for the iPad port.
(I really have no idea what that would involve, other than always including
all of them as part of the app.)

Honestly, I don't have an iPad, so everything I'm hearing about Tux Paint HD
is second-hand.  Once I get my hands on some friend's iPad to check things
out, I'll begin making a laundry list of features & fixes that it needs,
and hopefully work with the person who ported it to iOS to get the issues
addressed.

Hi Ann - Well, I actually had nothing to do with the iOS port,
a fellow named Lin Dai did it.  As for the bucket fill, that's a Magic tool
in Tux Paint, and it sounds like not all (or none?) of the Magic tools
are available in the iOS port. :(  It's because Apple has a restriction
on apps loading external code, which is precisely how the Magic tools work.

I've been using Apple's since the MacPlus, and am pretty computer literate, but have little to no programming knowledge. I did manage to compile the Windows version of Tuxpaint, but had johnnypops instructions to guide me.

As is the case in many schools, this school has an up to date lab, but they keep older computers until they no longer work in the classrooms.
So the updated Tuxpaint would be great for their lab. For the older computers, I'll need to find another solution.

And by the way, if anyone else is in a similar situation, and would like to try the compiled pre-release version for Windows, send me an email.

Unless you asked Tux Paint to save into a specific location (using the 'savedir' option), Tux Paint saves into a standard location on your local drive:

        In the user's "Application Data" folder:
