Hi all. My now 5 year old and I are loving Tux. It’s Tux-riffic! Searched the docs, which don’t seem terrible extensive, unless I’m missing something. Is there a way to change the size of the various brushes? Thanks so much. Peace. For folks interested in Tux Paint on Android devices (phones/tablets), we've got some good news! (1) A developer named Jianwei has joined the Tux Paint project, and is actively working on adding Android support to the official Tux Paint codebase! (See discussion over on our 'tuxpaint-devel' mailing list.) (2) Separately, just today, I discovered that another person, Mark Tu, has built and released (to the Google Play store) an Android port of the latest release of Tux Paint (0.9.23). It's free, though advertising-supported. (Since it's Mark's release, I'm presuming he's receiving the revenue, which is fine with me, and fine under the GNU General Public License (GPL) under which Tux Paint is released.) You can see it on the web here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happymobile.tuxpaint I've asked Mark to work with Jianwei and the other fine folks who have been helping me maintain Tux Paint, to get his Android-specific changes included in the main codebase, so that the code remains in one centralized place (vs. fragmenting). Doing it this way will help the Android version keep up-to-date with developments (enhancements, bug fixes, new features, etc.), just like we currently do with the Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X versions! (And eventually I'm hoping to see Google ChromeOS and Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad) supported, as well!) Thanks & enjoy! I hope it works well for you. (I tried the June 1 version on my Nexus 5 phone (Android 5.1.1, worked great!) and my wife's Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 talblet (Android 4.1.2, had some issues), and reported back to Mark with the results.) -- -bill! Hello Bill, Such a pleasure to hear from you. We are constantly looking for volunteers and interns who understand systems and open source software given the lack of skilled human resources in my village in India. We have set up our learning system on Moodle and are now populating courses on it. This is at www.tamarindtree.org.in So if you know people willing to help us both online and coming here for a couple of months in India, let me know. We are located on a farm in rural india and it can be a lovely experience. Thanks, Michelle On Monday 30 March 2015 09:50 AM, Bill Kendrick wrote: > Hi Michelle, thank you so much for sharing this. Congratulations Michelle. It would be nice if you could share some of the pictures in any online website, maybe some comments could also be added about the use of TuxPaint and the other open-source tools you are using. ¿Maybe a blog? . It woudl be the kind of links I would be happy to share in a tweet or in a FB comment... :-) Best regards, -- Antonio Miranda Spain <https://plus.google.com/107353959283429924520> On 25 March 2015 at 06:24, Michelle <mic...@ta...> wrote: > hello, > > Greetings from India! hello, Greetings from India! Wanted to share our successful and regular use of Tux Paint with tribal (indigenous) children - all first generation learners at our school - Tamarind Tree in a small village in north west Maharashtra. (www.tamarindtree.org) Our machines are on Ubuntu 14.4 and the Tux Paint version is 0.9.21. We have children from ages 3-10 and are using it across these ages to create pictures, write words associated with a picture, make sentences, and learn shapes. I am looking to share more ideas of how best we can use it for our teachers. Our school is an experiment in equity and using open source tools is ingrained in our philosophy for a better world. I really appreciate the work done on Tux Paint and I am sure all you developers would be thrilled and happy to see underprivileged tribal children half way across the world using and enjoying your work. So really a big thank you for Tux Paint. Look forward to getting ideas from this forum, Regards Michelle Tamarind Tree school Sogve Village, Dahanu, Maharashtra India www.tamarindtree.org twitter: @tamarindtree2 |

Love your programs. My kids are using and loving tuxmath via macports. I went to sudo port install tuxtype, but the install in macports seems to be broken some how. Odd since the tux math worked fine. I didn’t get much in the way of information about why it failed…sorry. If it had provided a listing, I would put it here. Thanks. |

Hi Laurie - Generally speaking, stamps in Tux Paint are simply PNG (bitmap) or SVG (vector) image files, stored in a particular (set of) place(s) where Tux Paint knows to look for them. The "Extending Tux Paint" documentation talks about where things go and how to format them: http://tuxpaint.org/docs/html/EXTENDING.html The quick answer, assuming you're on a Windows system, though, your best bet is to take a peek in this folder: C:\Program Files\TuxPaint\data Good luck, and let us know if you need more help! -- -bill! Hi. Is there a way to add images/pictures to the Stamps gallery? And also, is there a way to delete pictures from the Stamps, that we know our students will not be using/we don't want them to see? If it is possible to either/both of the above, could you detail how to do it? Thanks. Laurie Cohen Torah School of Greater Washington Silver Spring, Maryland |

Hi Joe, Thank you for answering my question. So, I know about the gallery, but that was not my question. But now I might have the correct e-mail list. It think it is the *stamps- mailing list*. You put my nose towards the right direction, it is one of those other email lists, so thank you. Hi Ann - Yes, they'll be available when the new versions of Tux Paint & the Stamps collection are built for Mac -- it hasn't happened yet, though. In the meantime, it might be possible to download the "ZIP" version for Windows, unzip it on a Mac, and place the stamps in a folder for Tux Paint to find them. Here's where to download it: http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/windows-zip/ This document explains where Stamps (and other kinds of content) can be placed for Tux Paint to find them: http://tuxpaint.org/docs/html/EXTENDING.html On Mac, you could try: /Library/Application Support/TuxPaint/ (for system-wide) or /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/TuxPaint/ (for a specific user) Good luck! -bill! |

Version 0.9.22 is no exception, incorporating translations to 32 new languages: six from Europe (Aragones, Bosnian, Luxembourgish, Serbian, Valencian, and Venetian), over a dozen from the Indian continent (Assamese, Kannada, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, and Sinhala), nine from Africa (Acholi, Akan, Amharic, Bambara, Fula, Kiga, Luganda, Northern Sotho, Sudanese, and Zulu), as well as Armenian, Persian, Sundanese, and the Canadian Inuit language of Inuktitut. Updates were also made to the 90 languages Tux Paint already supported. Tux Paint is available for download free of charge from the project's website at http://www.tuxpaint.org/ Version 0.9.22 is currently available for Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux, Fedora Linux, and as source code. Updates for Apple Mac OS X, Debian Linux, and Ubuntu are in development. Hi everyone! TOYAMA Shin-Ichi was kind enough to build a release-candidate of the next Tux Paint, for Windows and Linux (RPM-based). Please download it, and try it out! See below for an earlier email regarding a beta version, which describes a lot of the new features. Let us know if you have any problems! Note that the stamp builds available at the URLs below are from a few months ago, so won't include any recent translation updates. (Shin-Ichi, if you'd be willing to make new stamps releases, that would be handy for testing by translators!) Thanks and enjoy! -bill! A new version of Tux Paint will be released later this year. In the meantime, if you're using Windows 8, 7 or Vista, or an RPM-based Linux distro (like RedHat or Fedora), or you're comfortable building software from its source-code, you can download a beta version NOW! All we ask in return is that you give us your feedback. You'll help us ensure that the next release of Tux Paint is as close to perfect and bug-free as we can make it. Windows: ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/win32/0.9.22-pre/ Linux (RPM): ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/rpm/0.9.22-pre/ Source (from the repository): http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/source/cvs/ New features to try out: * The "Label" tool, for adding text to a picture that can be altered after the fact. * New "Magic" tools: * Blinds * Mosaic Hexagon, Mosaic Irregular, and Mosaic Square * Pattern * Perspective * Puzzle * ROYGBIV Rainbow * Symmetry Left/Right, and Symmetry Up/Down * Tiles * Wet Paint * XOR Colors * Zoom * Templates -- similar to Starters, but with no immutable top layer. * Starters (and Templates) can be in Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) or KidPix Templat (PKX) formats. Accessibility Improvements: * "Mouse accessibility" option, to allow clicking once to act as a click-and-drag action * On screen keyboard, for Text and Label tools * Keyboard-based mouse controls (arrow keys to move) * Joystick-based mouse controls Other changes: * Deleting files from Tux Paint's "Open Dialog" moves them to the desktop's trashcan (Linux only) * Tux Paint remains responsive when FontConfig is busy generating a cache (e.g., the first time you run Tux Paint) (This was already included in a later version of 0.9.21 for Windows) * Thumbnails for "Starter" images are cached, to speed up opening the "New" dialog. * All thumbnails are gamma-corrected. * SVG-based stamps don't default to a huge size. * Tux Paint drawing metadata is now stored within PNGs, rather than as separate files. * Various bug fixes * ...and more! New content: * Nearly 2 dozen new Starters * Templates! Nearly 20 of them. * 2 new brushes. * Over 30 new translations/localizations: Acholi, Akan, Amharic, Aragones, Armenian, Assamese, Bambara, Bosnian, Kiga, Fula, Inuktitut, Kannada, Konkani, Luganda, Luxembourgish, Maithili, Malayalam, Maipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Northern Sotho, Odia, Punjabi, Persian, Sanskrit, Santali, Serbia, Venetian, Zulu * Numerous updates to existing translations For the complete list of changes (so far!), see: http://tuxpaint.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/tuxpaint/tuxpaint/docs/CHANGES.txt And, of course, try out all of your favorite, tried-and-true features of Tux Paint, to make sure they still work the way you expect them! If you're counting on Tux Paint being stable, and keeping younger users happy, you should stick to the latest official release, of course. Thanks in advance! And thanks to all of the contributors to Tux Paint over the years (especially the last 5 years, since we last made an official release). Special thanks to TOYAMA Shin-Ichi for producing the beta builds. -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Hi Pere, Sorry for not being more specific. Yes, I'm using windows 7 64bit, and have the latest official tux paint version 0.9.21c. I tried changing the SDL.dll file as instructed in the first link you provided but it doesn't work. tried installing almost everything from the bottom up in the second link and was about to give up but in beta02 the Hebrew font works! And also seems to deal with left-to-right issues. Thank you.
