Bill: Students at both of my schools will entering projects created w/Tux Paint into our district Digital Media Fair. If any of them win at the district level, they will go on to the TCEA state contest. I am also conducting a 45 minute preview of your program at TCEA in February. At both of my schools, the students prefer using Tux Paint rather than Kid Pix. Love the new features. A new version of Tux Paint is available for people using the BeOS operating system (R5, Haiku or ZETA -- on x86-architecture). The last time we saw Tux Paint for BeOS was back at version 0.9.14. Thanks to 'Begasus' for making this happen! We'll have a Stamps ZIP at some point soon, I think. http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/beos/ Enjoy! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

0.9.18 was PowerPC only, and even then, had some issues running. Martin (with help) has put together a new build that seems to work on 10.4 Intel systems. ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/macosx/ (Currently, it's "tuxpaint-0.9.18.03-macosx.dmg") Can people here please try it out and let us know if it works, and what version of OS X you're using, and on what platform (Intel or PowerPC)? If it DOESN'T work, try running it from a Terminal, and let us know if any error messages appear: Launch the "Terminal" application in your Mac's "Utilities" folder. Right-click (or [Control]+click) on the "Tux Paint" application icon. Choose "Show Package Contents" from the menu that appears. Open up the "Contents" folder, and then 'MacOS" folder within. You will see a single file named "Tux Paint". Drag the "Tux Paint" icon into the Terminal window, and press [Return]. As Tux Paint will attempt to launch, let us know if anything gets printed out to the Terminal window. (Copy/Paste it into your reply email to us) Thanks! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

'Starters' are assumed to have at least some transparent parts, which is how they work as coloring book pictures, for example. This page explains briefly where saved pictures go: http://www.tuxpaint.org/gallery/submit/ Of course, she'll want to save it as a new picture after drawing on it, otherwise you'll have to make another PNG if she wants to start fresh. In the future, I'm planning on adding 'Templates,' as well as 'Starters.' They'd be pictures you could open and draw on like any other image, but wouldn't act the same as the coloring-book-style 'Starters'. Good luck, -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

Hi, My daughter lovers to work with tuxpaint (latest version 0.9.17) on our Mac (OXS 10.4.10) She wants to draw on a photo of herself and I put her photo in de starters map. I converted a JPG-file into PNG, but it is impossible to draw on it. What should I do to make this work? Any special requirements for the PNG? I used Photoshop Elements 2.0 to convert from JPG to PNG. Thanks for your help. Regards, Rob |

This has to do with content in the gallery, so it's not really FAQ about Tux Paint _itself_. :) I'm tempted to add a note to that one gallery entry, though, since it comes up a lot. :^) -bill! |

When/if I can get it to work, and decide to add support for it to, I think I'd probably map the buttons as follows: Top left: * Eraser Eraser tool * Paint can (Not sure yet) * Paint brush Paint tool * Pencil Line tool Top right: * Printer Print command * Brush/House/Scissors (Not sure yet) Bottom right: * Color buttons Appropriate colors, of course * Color wheel button Bring up the color-picker dialog (new to Tux Paint 0.9.18) Bottom left: * Undo arrow Undo command * Explosion New command * Magic wand Magic tools * "ABCD" Text tool * Paint bucket Magic "Flood fill" tool * Rubber stamp smiley Stamps tool * Picture of scenery (Not sure yet) * Sliding toolbox switch (Not sure yet) On the back: * Power button Quit, maybe? If anyone'd like to help me on my way to getting this thing recognized and working under Ubuntu Gusty (Linux 2.6.22 kernel), please feel free to respond here! :) Anyone else get ahold of one of these devices yet? -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

The Tux Paint project hopes to participate in the upcoming Free/Libre/Open Source Software ('FLOSS') Usability Sprint at Google Inc's campus in Mountain View, California. It takes place Friday November 2nd through Sunday, November 4th. http://www.flossusability.org/ To summarize the event (from their website): "Our strategy for improving the usability of FLOSS is to attack the entire system, not just individual projects within the system. In particular, we want to bring the already established, but siloed usability and open source communities together and catalyze collaboration between them." I'm interested in having the Tux Paint project attend with the hopes that the usability experts attending can help us improve the usability of our documentation and website. (Working on the app itself is less important to me, since I personally feel it needs less work on the usability front. I won't discourage interested parties from looking at it, though! :^) ) If you'd like to help, and are available to attend the Sprint any part of Nov. 2nd thru 4th, please contact me directly: bi...@ne... Thanks! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

I must have overlooked the arrows. This was a newer version than I have been using as I downloaded it for them last night. I will have to let them know. Again thank you, Thomas. Oh by the way. I have been making stamps in my spare time. I am using public domain images from http://images.fws.gov/default.cfm?fuseaction=records.browseKeywords http://images.fws.gov/default.cfm?fuseaction=records.browseKeywords and some other .gov sites. When I compile enough I will send them on disk if that is ok so they may used. I would upload them to a photobucket account but I have a very slow dial up. ----- For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/no-stamps-after-installing-stamps-tf3340300.html#a13194165 Sent from the tuxpaint-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

'tjustleft', the latest version of Tux Paint has been changed such that stamps are now broken into their categories. If you look at the bottom of the collection of stamps (the buttons on the right of the drawing canvas), just below the purple scroll-down-arrow, you should see a pair of buttons that look like left and right arrows (kind of like "<=" and "=>"). Those allow you to cycle through the stamps. This makes it easier to find the stamp you want, without having to scroll down through literally hundreds of stamps at a time. If you've already seen those buttons and tried them, and they don't work, then we DO have a problem! (Though it'll be the first time it's reported in the ~3.5 months that this version of Tux Paint has been out. ;) ) Good luck! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |
