Hi. Can you guys explain how tuxpaint is used in the making of the videos? I don’t really understand his thats done. Thanks!!! Sent from my mobile. Please excuse brevity and typos. A beta release of what will become Tux Paint 0.9.28 has been made available for Windows (11, 10, 8, 7, and Vista). It comes in eight -- count them, eight! -- variations. As usual, we have versions for both 64-bit ("x86_64") and 32-bit ("i686") CPU architectures. And both as an installer program ("setup.exe"-style) and as a self-contained, stand-alone ZIP archive ("portable" version). This time around, we're also building Tux Paint against two versions of the library that we use for graphics, sound, and input, the Simple DirectMedia Layer library (aka SDL or libSDL). Since the beginning (20 years ago next month!) Tux Paint for Windows has used SDL 1.2. A fork of Tux Paint, ported to use the newer SDL 2.0 library, has been maintained for a number of years (thanks, Pere!) as that's what's required for the Android port. Today, both SDL 1.2 and 2.0 builds have been created (thanks, Shin-Ichi!). Our long-term goal is to provide the SDL 2.0-based version moving forward, but have an SDL 1.2 version available in case anyone has any issues with the 2.0 version (especially on older versions of the Windows OS). You can learn more, and download them here: https://tuxpaint.org/beta/ Thanks in advance! -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Thanks very much! Those pages (as well as almost every, if not every, page of the website nowadays) are PHP files which use "gettext" and POT/PO catalogs to handle translations. I recently split the catalogs into two: one for "high-priority" pages, like the homepage, the Download pages, etc., and one for "low-priority" pages, which are often fairly verbose, but mostly more trivial/historical information (reviews, awards, and this new set of history pages). So if you can manage updating PO file, and are okay with HTML, please feel free to help! You can clone the contents of the 'tuxpaint-website' Git repository (in Tux Paint's SourceForge project) and submit pull requests. Or if you'd like developer access, you can just make changes directly in the main repo. See https://tuxpaint.org/download/source/git/ Alternatively, you can download the PO file manually from the website (direct link: https://tuxpaint.org/files/website/po/priority-low/it_IT.po) or Git repo (https://sourceforge.net/p/tuxpaint/tuxpaint-website/ci/master/tree/po/priority-low/it_IT.po, then click "Download this file"). Then send it back to me via direct email, or post them to the "tuxpaint-i18n" mailing list (you'll need to be subscribed; see https://tuxpaint.org/lists/) Thanks for your consideration! -- -bill! Tux Paint turns 20 years old next month (June 2022), so I put together a not-so-brief history (in three parts!) covering the development milestones of the project. (Basically a very condensed version of the changelog and press releases.) https://tuxpaint.org/history/ Enjoy! If anyone notices any incorrect statements, or think I missed something important, let me know! It's been my late night hobby project, so I've gotten a bit groggy working on it over the past week. ;-) Thanks! -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Some kids in South Africa have been using Tux Paint (sometimes together with Blender, and other tools) to create some rather silly cartoons and videos, including a music video (coming soon). I thought folks out on these lists might enjoy seeing them. (Tux Paint users: for inspiration... Tux Paint developers: to see what kids are capable of doing with our little drawing app! :-) ) The Jewel of Kramalot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP1dlNdpiqA The Magic Hair Comb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmydIOsDZbI (Preview) Music video for Flying Squid's "All Out of Riddles" https://twitter.com/GabeTYJ/status/1517578970543411202 (It makes me so happy to see my "Flower" Magic Tool making its appearance so many places. :-D ) And, as usual, keep an eye on the new Gallery over on the Tux Paint website, where I'm regularly adding new artwork as I come across it on Twitter and Tumblr (or receive it directly via email): https://tuxpaint.org/gallery/ Enjoy! -- -bill! For example, for modern Windows: https://tuxpaint.org/download/windows/ look for the "Rubber Stamps (optional)" section. For RPM-based Linux systems (like Red Hat "RHEL"): https://tuxpaint.org/download/linux-rpm/ scroll down to the "Tux Paint Stamps" section, near the bottom. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance, please let us know, and give us some more specifics about your situation. Thanks & take care, -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Thank you for your reply. I found the relevant conf file and that works. However, now I see that while lang hebrew works for 0.9.23, it does not work for the flatpak distribution 0.9.27 . The Flatpak has its own environment, so would not be looking in /etc. (On my machine, I see, for example: /var/lib/flatpak/app/org.tuxpaint.Tuxpaint/x86_64/stable/[very-long-string]/files/etc/tuxpaint/tuxpaint.conf) However, you _can_ override config file options via the command-line, e.g.: flatpak run org.tuxpaint.Tuxpaint --fullscreen=no > What am I missing? > > A second question - is there any way to move objects after they are > drawn? For example, if I put down a stamp, can the image be > translated on the canvas? No. The only objects that can be moved after the fact are Labels. Stamps get applied to the canvas just like any other 'object' (brush strokes, lines, shapes, regular Text, Magic tools that 'paint' things, like bricks, grass, traintracks, etc.), and hence can then be painted or stamped over, manipulated by Magic tools (blur, blocks, emboss, tint, waves, etc!) > I saw a similar question asked in 2015, but I did not see an answer > there, and perhaps by now something has changed. Sorry, not at this time. It is unlikely that it ever will. (The feature that became "Labels" was requested by numerous teachers who wanted kids to be able to edit any misspellings, so we gave in and added it. :) ) Take care, -bill! > Tnx in advance, > --aryeh > > -- > Aryeh Weiss > Faculty of Engineering > Bar Ilan University > Ramat Gan 52900 Israel > > Ph: 972-3-5317638 > FAX: 972-3-7384051 > > > > _______________________________________________ > Tuxpaint-users mailing list > Tux...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tuxpaint-users -- -bill! Tuxpaint installed from flatpak opens in full screen mode, and I cannot figure out how to get out of full screen mode. If I install from apt (apt install tuxpaint), then it works fine but the version is 0.9.23 The flatpak is 0.9.27, which is the latest version. However , I cannot pass it arguments (even if I track down the flatpak link to the executable), it does not appear affected by /etc/tuxpaint/tuxpaint.conf , and I cannot get it out of full screen mode. What am I missing? A second question - is there any way to move objects after they are drawn? For example, if I put down a stamp, can the image be translated on the canvas? I saw a similar question asked in 2015, but I did not see an answer there, and perhaps by now something has changed. Hello again, I figured out that in the 'text' tool you can write an endless text that can't be read. That's because the letters are added at the end of the raw which is out of the window. What should be done is that the text must continue in a new raw when the text comes to the end of rhe canvas. Also, in the fonts (on the right of the window) I meet some little boxes and spaces. I'm not sure what's the use of them. Is it a translation problem again? I am sending a screenshot to clarify what I mean. Tell me what you think. Thank you! |

It is simpler to use -- once you are done adding text to your drawing, there are no extra UI elements, which could potentially cause confusion in younger users. (This is why the Label tool can be explicitly disabled, as a simplification option.) Many requests came in over the years to add a way to edit and manipulate text after the fact (move it, correct a typo, etc.), beyond simply using the Undo feature, and typing it again. Based on these requests, we added the Label tool. >From a practical perspective, the Label tool provides something different from the Text tool, beyond simply the ability to edit the text after the fact. With the original Text tool, the text becomes "blitted" into the drawing. You may paint over it, manipulate it with various Magic tool effects (blur, blocks, perspective, etc.), just as you can with most everything else that ends up on the canvas. Imagine the Text tool as though you were literally painting words onto your canvas. You can smear or paint over them later. The Label tool is like a clear sheet of glass hovering just in front of your painting, where you can place little stickers containing text. You can move them around after the fact, without changing your painting. However, you cannot paint _over_ them. >From a technical perspective, Label is like a text layer in GIMP. The Text tool is as if you the took your text layer and issue a "Layer -> Discard Text Information" command, followed by a "Layer -> Merge Down" command. So there's definitely no reason to get rid of the Text tool. I do see how it could be useful to provide an option, that caused the same effect as those two GIMP commands above. In other words, a way to take a piece of text written with the Label tool and "apply" it to the canvas, as if it were originally entered using the Text tool ("painted onto the canvas"), once you are happy with it. (Also, I see that the Label tool's interactions lack very many hints (text at the bottom, next to Tux the penguin) on how to use it, which I think should be addressed!) Thanks for your thoughts on this! -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Hello there, I was working on tux paint this days and I was testing especially on the 'text' and 'label' tools. What I recognized is that these 2 tools have very similar uses. Also, I figured that the 'label' tool is more useful than the 'text'. I think that these things that can be done with 'text' can easily be done with 'label' too. I would be glad if you tell me what your opinions are and if you think that the 'text' tool should be replaced by 'label'. Thank you! |

Also noticed some error log like this "D:\dl\tuxpaint-0.9.27-windows-x86_64\TuxPaint\etc\fonts\conf.d/30-metric-aliases.conf", line 84: Having multiple <family> in <alias> isn't supported and may not work as expected also attached the file.
