Hi, I 'm trying to "insmod nfs.o" for nfs-support of my trinux-box, but ins= mod only shows me messages like "unresolved symbel: rpc_setup"... Which do = I need additionally to insert this module? regards Detlef Jockheck PS: networking (ftp, ping etc...) is working fine -- ################################## # adp Gauselmann GmbH # # Detlef Jockheck # # Boschstrasse 8 # # 32312 L=FCbbecke # # Telefon: 05741/273-412 # # Fax: 05741/273-715 # # Email: djo...@ga... # ################################## = |

Thanks for the response to the last question - got it all nicely working :D. Been playing a bit more, and come across another issue (proabably just my lack of *nix skills). I've un tar'ed the initrd.tgz, moved a file or two (just for fun), and now can't seem to re-image. What i've been trying to do is: dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/trinux/initrd.gz bs=1k count=3000 (this is where I think I'm going wrong?) losetup /dev/loop1 /tmp/trinux/initrd.gz mkfs -t ext2 /dev/loop1 mount /dev/loop1 /tmp/loop/trinux cp -dpR /tmp/trinux/extracted/* (the route of the extracted orginal initrid.tgz) /tmp/loop/trinux umount /tmp/loop/trinux losetup -d /dev/loop1 which gives me just over a 3mg initrd.gz whereas the orginal initrd.gz is only 512k (yet if i step down on the dd count to 2880, then I don't have enough space to copy everything over) Thanks for any help Vert __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I can build sound modules for the next kernel (probably 2.4.22?) I release -- however, I'm not going to do that for "all kernels" (whatever that means). I could be wrong, but I'm guessing you are one of the few trinux users that cares about sound... - mdf > I need all audio modules for all kernels. Please consider to make them > available worldwide. I'm assuming you created your .iso with the buildiso script available from the downloads section? It doesn't sound like you did. You'll need isolinux/syslinux for this, since I don't use eltorito anymore. cdrecord shouldn't require any special args but mkisofs does (see the buildiso script) - mdf > Yesterday I tried to make a bootable cd with a bootable image dd'ed from > the trinux boot floppy but it doesn't boot (says non-system disk...) > > I have set options to rock ridge + joliet , the boot image to the image > file i made with dd and boot catalog to 'boot.catalog' and i have put the > same image in the root dir of the cd. > > Which option am I missing ? > > (using cdrecord) > > tried again today with MSDOS type, but didn't work. > > > Sorry to send in private, I tried sending to the list twice but i don't see > my message there. > > > val -- | Matthew Franz md...@io... | | http://www.io.com/~mdfranz

This sounds correct. If this is a floppy, I'm doubting you can fit libdb.tgz and dsniff.tgz in bootpkg. I would just add them to pkglist. If it is not finding a library when you run it you can do a ldconfig -v. The ettercap pack is pretty recent (built in the last few months) so that might do what you want, because I believe there were some problems with the dsniff package. Dsniff isn't being actively maintained anymore. You'll definitely need the term.tgz and probably the pthread.tgz package for ettercap. - mdf > Vert, > > I believe bootpkg includes packages that need to be loaded early. Vert, I believe bootpkg includes packages that need to be loaded early. Try modifying pkglist (in /trinux/tux/config directory) to include the package(s) you want loaded automatically. If that fails, try loading it manually with pkgadd. Are you booting to a floppy image or to one of the ISO's? I am a relative newcomer to Trinux, by the way; just trying to help. If you discover that I am completely wrong just say so and we will both learn. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: ver...@ya... The problem was really solved by putting this into Apache's commonthttpd.conf file on the local web server (Apache 1.3/Mandrake 8.2): /etc/httpd/conf/commonhttpd.conf : <Directory /var/www/html/trinux/> Options +Indexes Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> Which will allow the directory listing to be output. After being successful booting (and using) Trinux from Floppy on a 64MB Pentium Pro (200MHZ) PC, I now want to try an older 16 MB Pentium 60, but I am getting errors, despite some trimming of the package list. My /tux/config/pkglist contains: term baselib system netconf bash nmap pthread netutil tcpdump hping2 vi My HTTP server is found, and package loading begins : term, baselib, system, netconf load OK, but starting with bash I get the following error for the rest of packages of the list: tar:/usr/bin/bash: input/output error -- no space left on device tar: bad tar header, skipping .... tar: bad tar header, skipping .... ..... It seems my 16 MB are not enough room... weird. At the end I don't get a working console. Some tips ? What is a minimal recommended install (packages) for such a RAM amount ? Thanks DAVID RAMIREZ Colombia |

I have been having trouble getting trinux to boot properly. I am attempting to load trinux on a Sony notebook with a crashed hard drive (and no other internal drive). The bios has hooks to boot from a USB floppy, but not a CD-rom (PCMCIA or USB) or memory stick. Trinux loads and the ramdisk installs, but it cannot mount the floppy. This means I can't load any additional packages--including the dhcp client needed to configure networking. I have tried booting with so-called plug-and-play turned both on and off in the BIOS. Why can it load properly from floppy, but not mount it? Is thee a disk image available with USB support? It appears to recognize my network card fine (a realtek 81?9). Is there a way to put the things I need into the compressed ram disk tarball? I tried inserting them myself, but it did not work. -- _______________________________________________ Get your free email from http://www.graffiti.net Powered by Outblaze |

Hi, Ive been trying to compile packages for my own trinux box but not with much success. :/ The first package Im trying to create is screen (ie run stuff from the box without having to be logged in). Ive gotten screen 3.09.13 to compile and it works "ok" (seems to only be able to run as root, but since Im the only user on my trinux box, thats no big deal). Has anyone gotten any of the newer versions of screen to compile and work with trinux? I think adding screen as a downloadable package to trinux would be a good idea. :) (If someone wanted my copy of screen, I could provide it, but Im guessing 3.09.13 probably has bugs and exploits and what not) Another package Ive tried to compile is BitchX (an irc client. yeah, Im hooked on irc, sue me. :) Ive gotten the latest BitchX to compile, but only as a statically linked binary, which of course leads to a 4 meg binary. I run trinux purely from ram (64 mb, ~32 for fs, ~32 for memory), so a 4mb binary takes up a lot of space. :) I figured this one would probably be harded to get to work on trinux, as it requires more libs and what not. Maybe not an important package for Trinux, but if not BitchX, then maybe another irc client (epic?). Im also looking for a really simple smtp server. One that would listen on port 25 and act as smtp relay for my lan. It wouldn't have to handle incoming smtp requests (it would actually be firewalled, and only allow connections from my lan, to prevent outsiders from using it to spam). Does anyone know of such a program? My isp's smtp server aint the best. This one aint too important, but I thought I would ask. :) Thanks for any help. M. |

Ok, I got a workaround for it... By adding all the packages that the script attempts to load into the pkglist files. But another question... Can I run the console in 132 column mode? How about switching between modes, especially inside a tn5250 session. What is the process of adding files/packages? Do I just tar up the files with full path specified and add it to the packages list? Such as adding a configuration file for tn5250 into a specific location. Some of y'all may remember Labrea from worm seasons of the past. Anyway there is a security focus article on using the linux kernel module called TARPIT which is much easier and is now included in the latest netfilter package. Fortunately, it was already in iptables so I didn't need to update that, too. http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1723 You'll need to install it with insmod /lib/modules/ipt_TARPIT.o # iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 135 -j TARPIT In about 15 minutes I was able to tarpit as many works, have fun :) YMMV -- | Matthew Franz md...@io... | | http://www.io.com/~mdfranz

I haven't yet looked at the modifications for this. term.tgz does contain ncurses. I would rename the Term to term.tgz -- the pkgadd or getpkg commands should work with or without the .tgz extension. Case could give you a problem as well because *nix is case sensitive. - mdf > Do I need too add another package to get ncurses? I saw an old message that > said it was part of the 'term.tgz' package. Hi, I am new to trinux, looking at it specifically for the tn5250 that was mentioned in the archives (subject:trinux5250) =20 I went to the instructions web site: http://www.bredeau.com/~mathieu/TriNux5250/TriNux5250En.html/frame.html And followed the instructions, there appear to be no errors when the = script runs (once I removed afew extensions from files). It loads the baselib, term, kmap, and tn5250 packages just fine (no errors reported on the = screen) I commented out the reboot command in the 'last' file so I could do debugging. After boot, and the first run through of the script I then = end up at a screen to press any key for a prompt. I do that, then I try = running the script from there, that is where I get a chance to read the screen. = At then end, I get an error that it isn't finding "libncurses.so.5" I do = not see that in the /lib directory, there are many other lib* files there though. =20 Do I need too add another package to get ncurses? I saw an old message = that said it was part of the 'term.tgz' package. I have the following files = in my server directory that the floppy points to: As400kmap.tgz Baselib (removed tgz because the script doesn't have the extension) Edit_server (for changing as400 IP) Kmap (keyboard map for tn5250) Script.tgz (package load script) Term (removed tgz because the script doesn't have the extension) Tn5250 (removed tgz because the script doesn't have the extension) I also commented out the "rm" commands in the script to make sure they didn't remove anything needed. Can someone help point me in the right direction? Thank You, Michael Alexander |
