Hello All, I'm just getting started with Trinux and have two intended purposes for it: One, to run on older laptops in my IDF closets. These will run minicom for console access, as well as give me the ability to log in for remote monitoring, as needed. The second is to build a few high-performance monitoring stations that can be used on our core switches. Does anyone have any recommendations for building and spec'ing a high-perfomance network monitoring system? I did some quick searches on Tom's Hardware Guide and HardwareCentral. They are mainly focused on home & wireless networking (although I did find an interesting article on Tom's HG about laptop NICs: http://www4.tomshardware.com/network/20011210/index.html). If I were to buy the boxes right now, I'd probably either get a few cheap Dells and install a gigabit card (or 2) in it, or buy the separate components (case, motherboard, CPU, HD, CD/floppy, lots of RAM, and 2 or 3 network cards--one or all gigabit.) I guess my primary question is, what network cards are best for capturing a lot of frames? I'll probably look primarily for SC fiber cards since that's what we currently have capacity for. But I will also want to install a 100/1000 copper card for later use as we install more copper gig. So, if anyone has researched the latest & greatest and could either give me advice or point me to some good websites on the subject, I really appreciate it! Take care, Mike |

My <mailto:tri...@li...> previous mail asked erroneously about SSL Keys, I meant, of course SSH. The bugbear info wants the keys in the users $HOME directory This is not quite specified under Trinux. Can someone help and tell me where they need to be so that an ISO version is ready for remote SSH admin with RSA Keys after boot ?? =20 Many Tx. Bob v. Knobloch =20 =20 =20 |

I'll find that part in the doc, but I think I said it is done using a loadlin.exe (which is a boot loader, like grub/lilo) which boots from an MS-DOS partition. Until you get 0.35 working (unless you have already??) can you compile 0.33 with the "fix" mentioned at: http://www.securiteam.com/unixfocus/5VP0E2AAUS.html (or maybe even just compile a version with syslog disabled). Thats of course if that fix applies to 0.33. M. > > The current package uses 0.33 and *is* vulnerable (haven't tested it > though). In response to: http://securityfocus.net/archive/1/333737/2003-08-16/2003-08-22/0 A new Dropbear SSH server package is available based on verison 0.35 To upgrade: # killall dropbear # rmpkg dropbear (bet you didn't know that cmd existed, eh?) # getpkg dropbear - mdf |

The current package uses 0.33 and *is* vulnerable (haven't tested it though). I' working on building the new package, but having some issues getting 0.35 to work. So if you have any *net facing boxes running Dropbear might want to use iptables to do some filtering. - mdf |

Helmut, Thanks. I'll add this to the bug page. I believe I've seen some discussion on the busybox mailing list about fprintf issues.. For those that aren't aware of it. Hello there, As some of you probably know, I've been working on a tn5250 diskless workstation solution based on a mini-Linux distro called Trinux. Scott Klement's proposal based on PicoBSD is a great thing. Unfortunately, that solution was not adapted with my needs since I have to be able to build diskless workstations from Windows stations. I worked on my function keys problem and finally solved it thanks to Matthew Franz's help. So, here is TriNux5250, "an automagic access to your AS/400 from diskless computers". I wrote a french howto with a kind of english translation but it is not online yet. If you want to know more about this solution, send me an email. Cheers, Mathieu |

Hallo, my busybox-tar crashes with "tar -xvf some.tar" when the file has a size of about 300 MByte. It tells something about GLIBC and "fprint" or "fprintf" - I haven't noticed the exact text, sorry. And then I have to push the reset switch. On several machines (586 with 32 MByte RAM) it always crashes at the same time (at the same file). Sometimes (in 2 of about 14 tries) it doesn't crash - don't know why. Maybe it will crash with smaller files - I have seen this behaviour with a file of this size. The "real" tar does work without any problem. Busybox 2003-07-20 Viele Gruesse! Helmut |

For some reason there is a problem with exporting environment variables. So anything you set within linuxrc or the /etc/init scripts doesn't work. So the solution is to put it within the getpkg script. The latest initrd.gz from http://trinux.sf.net/snaps/ has the new version of getpkg. So basically put your proxy setting in \tux\config\proxy (such as http://192.168.1.10:8080) and it should work just fine. - mdf > > I'll need to update the getpkg script to read /etc/tux/config/proxy > > and set SNARF_PROXY to that value. > > > # snarf --help > > Thanks - I have found some more informations: > A better explanation is in the "curl"-manpage. > > And then the "snarf"-manpage tells some special variables - may be > it's better to set the snarf proxy. > > I have tried to set the environment variable "HTTP_PROXY", but bash > didn't accept my tries. > No "set HTTP_PROXY=...". no "HTPP_PROXY=...; export ..." > "set" didn't show the variable. > Strange. > > Where could I define those variables: in "/tux/init/last" or in > "/tux/init/postpkg"? > > Or just another place? > > Viele Gruesse! > Helmut > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including > Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now. > Download today and enter to win an XBOX or Visual Studio .NET. > http://aspnet.click-url.com/go/psa00100003ave/direct;at.aspnet_072303_01/01 > _______________________________________________ > Trinux-talk mailing list > Tri...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/trinux-talk -- ---------------------------------------------- Matthew Franz mf...@ci... And then the "snarf"-manpage tells some special variables - may be it's better to set the snarf proxy. I have tried to set the environment variable "HTTP_PROXY", but bash didn't accept my tries. No "set HTTP_PROXY=...". no "HTPP_PROXY=...; export ..." "set" didn't show the variable. Strange. Where could I define those variables: in "/tux/init/last" or in "/tux/init/postpkg"? I'll need to update the getpkg script to read /etc/tux/config/proxy and set SNARF_PROXY to that value. # snarf --help This is snarf, version 7.0 usage: snarf [OPTIONS] URL [OUTFILE] ... Options: -a Force active FTP (default is passive) -v Verbose; print anything the server sends -q Don't print progress bars (compiled default is on) -p Force printing of progress bars (overrides -q) -r Resume downloading a partially transferred file -n Ignore '-r' and transfer file in its entirety -m Spoof MSIE user-agent string -z Spoof Navigator user-agent string Lowercase option letters only affect the URLs that immediately follow them. If you give an option in caps, it will be the default option for all URLs that follow it. If you specify the outfile as '-', the file will be printed to standard output as it downloads. You can have as many URLs and outfiles as you want You can specify a username and password for ftp or http authentication. The format is: ftp://username:password@host/ If you don't specify a password, you will be prompted for one. snarf checks the SNARF_PROXY, FTP_PROXY, GOPHER_PROXY, HTTP_PROXY, and PROXY environment variables. snarf is free software and has NO WARRANTY.
