I am a new user of a Trinux (and Linux as well) and i have a some questions about some programs i am not able to make it working. What i need trinux for? i need a kind of ssh to serial port (ttyS0) gateway. So i have related packages installed (minicom, opensshand opensshd). Network is up and running with static address (had a problem with dhcp). When i type minicom (with any switch) it gives me a message: "You don't exist, go away" I just don't know what to do about. Any Idea? Second, i have a problem with openssh and opensshd. ssh gives me the same message as minicom. The same is for key generation utility. As for sshd, it is not working, saying that it could not find keys. I did exactly as described in instructions for openssh(d) but it seems that there are additional steps which are not mentioned there... Any help would be appreciated... |

Thanks for the tip on the better servers, but I get the same results as before for both: # getpkg bash http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/ (Waits for about 20 secs) # (# sign returns) # ls (shows no bash.tgz) # pkgadd bash bash.tgz not found! What should I expect from getpkg? If it finds the package I requested will it output anything to the screen while it is being downloaded? I can ping http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/. nslookup resolves trinux.sf.net to 216.136.171.201 snarf http://trinux.sf.net/pkg also seems to work fine. I assume that getpkg must do some sort of anonymous login. Could this be failing for some reason? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Try: ping 192.168.232.60 You should be able to ping your own interface, if not, then check your config. ping 192.168.232.54 If this fails, try a different cable and card, unless you have tested them with another OS, and they test OK. You did not mention which NIC card you have, or which driver got setup. It could be wrong, faulty, or not compatible. Check your routes too... you might need to manually add a route Check ifconfig to see if your interface is recording any ingress or egress packets. Check the link lights on the nic cards and the hub. Using a vanilla 0.80rc2-ide boot floppy configured for static IP: eth0 set to 192.168.232.60 255.255.255.0 gateway set to 192.168.232.54 dns set to point to internet dns server The gateway machine is a Linux box set up as a router running MASQ in ipchains, so all internet traffic from the LAN (including the Trinux machine) should get routed through the Linux box Additional packages on second floppy contain pcmcia support and this is started manually by running /etc/tux/pcmcia. This works fine, since ifconfig shows eth0 up and running. The only snag is - the Trinux box cannot ping any other machines on the LAN, and other machines on the LAN can't ping the Trinux box. ??? So, although eth0 is up and running, ??? ??? no traffic gets routed. Why is this ??? Thanks for any help to eliminate the problem - and my confusion. Sean se...@at... |

Remember y'all, the link light only indicates that a completed circuit exists. It does not indicate anything about the quality of the circuit. If a cabling contractor is testing installed lines with a simple continuity checker, and not a CAT5 or better tester, then the lines are not truly certified CAT5. Oh yeah, and fire them quick! Thank you for your responses on the initrd help. I was able to find some helpful information on initrd on Trinux-Talk from Timothy Burt at the following link: http://www.geocrawler.com/mail/msg_raw.php3?msg_id=6868379 I had seen it before, however, Tim helped narrow my search down. I am still in search of of what files need to be modified and/or packages that need to be replaced to make the ISO bootable with PCMCIA support. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, el |

If we make the subject line more descriptive then it will be easier to search considering we have to search manually. If you look in the trinux faq you will find that it shows you how to mount a loop filesystem as well as modify the initrd. mstrhelix _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com |

Could someone please tell me what files I need to modify to make the trinux-80rc2-2.4.5.iso have PCMCIA support on boot up? I thought there was an e-mail in the Trinux-Talk archives, however, I was unable to find it. Another question I had was, does anyone know where I can find more information on initrd, other than the 'man' page. I am also looking for information on loop, so that I can explore/modify the initrd. Thanks, el |

Are there plans to have more ext3 support? I'm looking to build a trinux version that will let me clone whatever linux fs I want, starting with support for ext2, ext3, and reiser. Getting to ext3 from ext2 is simple enough as a post cloning ritual if necessary. I can just boot from a different floppy distro and run: tune2fs -j /dev/hdX ...but it's be nice if it were all in one place. -- Don't be silly, Toto. You will need to upgrade your kernel to 2.4.18 see http://trinux.sf.net/kernel/2.4.18/ide/bzImage and insmod the kernel mod from http://trinux.sf.net/modules/2.4.18/fs/ext3/ext3.o (this is close) I think you should be able to mount it (and write of course--I think I did this once) but I don't have any utils for creating filesytems. - mdf --- Matthew Franz mf...@ci... I'm running Trinux 0.80rc2 what packages are there that support an ext3 file system? -- Professor Marvel never guesses. He knows! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Richard Seymour, the Man Behind the Curtain CHEEP GEEKS Anarchy Software FREE GEEK |

I have compiled busybox 0.60.3 on slackware 7.1 and replaced the busybox on one of my boot floppies with the 0.60.3 version. My ls is now in color, when I type poweroff I get the same responses as if I had typed halt instead of the applet not found error (still does not power off the laptop I am testing on), and there appears to be no change in the du and df commands. This is the first time I have done something like this, what should I be testing to see if the new busybox has a problem with trinux? Thanks, Duane.
