I am trying to use ppp with Trinux. I have read the faq, loaded the packages (both serial-net and ppp), but the system appears to ignore the packages. I have an external modem which works fine using ppp on another linux system using ppp-on to do the dial-up. Any ideas? Thx |

Dear Sirs, We are an Italian SmartCard developer and we are now introducing some brand new SmartCard based software applications. We are proud to introduce you two products: WinCrypt: Software that allows you to encrypt and decrypt your files creating a SmartCard protected archive. The stucture is similar to WinZip's one so you can drag and drop all kinds of files contained in your hard-disk. Once your archive is complete the software will secure the archive itself using a random key previously stored in your SmartCard (creation of the key is randomly generated by Wincrypt). Once the archive is secured you can easly leave it in your hard-disk being sure that nobody will be able to re-build the content unless they have the same SmartCard which generated it. No data can be stolen from the SmartCard as the flow between the computer and the SmartCard is encrypted too. This simple kit is composed of a ISO 7816 compliant SmartCard Reader, SmartCard and Wincrypt software. The reader can be RS-232 or USB connected to the computer and it works under Windows OS (Win98/ME/NT/2000/XP). Quicklock: SmartCard kit which allows a software developer to protect his own software and prevent un-authorized copies. This kit is very simple to use and can be implemented on all development software accepting the OCX Object (like Visual Basic, Visual C++ and many others). Through a Random Data Challenge between the the card and the OCX it comes out with an OK or NOT OK answer. Neither card and computer will transmit the key. The key can be easly stored by the Software developer once he gives the software to the customer. Reader and card are the same as the above product. *Coming Soon* We are now developing and producing other kits like the two above that will be published in many Italian Computer Magazines. You can check out the full products feature at: www.quicklocker.com As we believe these products might be interesting for you to sell assuring you good profits and extra margins we'd like to know if you want to get further information and start proposing them to your customers. Any suggestion is welcome. We look forward to hear from you soon. Best Regards, Riccardo Alessi Cellular Center S.r.l. Cellular Center S.r.l. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Best bet for recovering disks with bad sectors is to use dd_rescue. I don't know if Matt has packages built for this, but even if he doesn't, if you have another linux box that you could use, you could plug the bad drive into a second bay, download dd_rescue, and use it. The web page for dd_rescue is http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/ddrescue/. If you use plain-old dd, it will quit when it hits the bad sectors and you may miss important info after that point. After seeing your distribution, I became interested in making my own. I ran into problems though that I can't find a solution to on my own. I am working toward a live-cd distribution, but some directories need to be write-able, /etc, /var, /home. I moved all of the previous into /var using links, thinking that I would then mount /var into ramdisk. I haven't seen documentation on mounting ramdisk at boot, for non initrd purposes. The kernel I compiled already includes devfs, isofs, ext2fs and cdrom drivers compiled in, so it will not need to load any modules from initrd that cannot already be loaded directly from the cdrom. The problem for me is that I need to mount /var soon after / is mounted. I am not sure which startup script to look at. I have found extensive docs on the linux boot process from the kernel programming point of view, but none describing boot scripts, their order and their location. I use LILO for booting from an fd image that has just LILO and the kernel. I appreciate your help mike |

I would be very interested in the development ISO image. I have recently spent weeks locating and downloading and burning slackware 7.1 only to find out that i have to roll a new kernel because of the old kernel that was in my installation not to mention some bad pkgs that where included... that would be very helpfull and would enable me to be more helpfull in the development process which i have been looking forward to... thank you mstrhelix |

Hallo, trinux-talk, in "/sbin/pkgadd" (nearly at the end) rm $FILE should be replaced with rm /$FILE The imported package is unpacked in "/", and it should be deleted after unpacking. That is ok. But if there happens a mistake during finding and unpacking, trinux may be not in "/", but in "/dev/xxx/trinux". And then deleting the package is no good idea. One possible error: the "pkglist" is edited under DOS/Windows, and trinux cannot understand "CRLF". Viele Gruesse! Helmut |

Hallo, trinux-talk, "Trinux" uses many scripts and parameter files in "/tux/config/..." and other places. That's a fine idea. But in "linuxrc" and some other master scripts in "/sbin" these files are tested and (if script) executed not very comfortable. Their existence is tested via "[ -f ... ]", not via "[ -s ... ]". And therefor all not used files have to be deleted or moved to "disabled". Testing "-s" would allow to set not wanted files to size 0. If the files are used as script files, first they become "chmod"ed, and most times then they are executed via ". <file>". But the period works also with scripts which are not executable. (This is no bug, only useless use of "chmod"). Viele Gruesse! Helmut |

Hallo, trinux-talk, "/sbin/chkfixed" does not recognize extended partitions. It tests the "dmesg" output, may be: Partition check: hda: hda4 hdc: [PTBL] [621/128/63] hdc1 hdc2 < hdc5 hdc6 > And then it takes every entry as a possible partition, including "<" or "[PTBL]". Testing the output of "fdisk -l" would be the better choice - including the partition format. Ok - if there is a CD-ROM, fdisk needs much time to recognize that there is no CD inserted. i am a new user of a Trinux (and Linux as well) and i have a some questions about some programs i am not able to make it working. What i need trinux for? i need a kind of ssh to serial port (ttyS0) gateway. So i have related packages installed (minicom, openssh and opensshd). Network is up and running with static address (had a problem with dhcp). When i type minicom (with any switch) it gives me a message: "You don't exist, go away" I just don't know what to do about. Any Idea? Second, i have a problem with openssh and opensshd. ssh gives me the same message as minicom. The same is for key generation utility. As for sshd, it is not working, saying that it could not find keys. I did exactly as described in instructions for openssh(d) but it seems that there are additional steps which are not mentioned there... Any help would be appreciated... *** Dejan Svarc *** PGP ID: 0xA46144B7 Fingerprint:FDF3 4804 D30D A4B9 0065 28C7 DCB3 359C A461 44B7 |
