Has everyone read today's newspaper article in Dallas Morning News
Southwest section? Lake Ridge Focusing on Retail. If you haven't read
it please do! and if you don't want to live on Cooper Street you better
get involved now. Attend the meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. at the
community center tomorrow.
What has not been put out for public knowledge is the street
improvement that they passed a bond for in Jan of 98, was for 4 lane
with a median. That's not what they are doing. It is 6 lanes with a
median and bike path. It will bottle neck into 4 lane with a median at
the fire station. The only way that size road would be needed is if
they are planning on doing some major retail in this area.
Do you really want to sit back and wait to see what happens or do
you want to get involved and try to stop it before it starts? This is
the time to get involved again!
I have spent considerable time this last week researching the
information that was given to the public prior to the bond election, in
the newspapers and mailings by the city to get the bond passed. The
information given does not match what they are doing.
I hope all of you are as concerned as I am!

Well, there have been (as far as I know) two fliers left in everyone's mailbox by local volunteers (Thanks guys!)...so everyone should be aware of what's going on. There was also an article in the "Today Cedar Hill" newspaper with our side being well represented by Linda Dunlap (Thanks Linda!). Hopefully, all this effort will be rewarded with a strong turnout at the meeting. When I looked today, there had been just over 100 distinct 'hits' on the protest web site. > Grand Prairie has a major development underway down the hill "generally > located west of Lakeridge Parkway and north of Hangar Lowe Road" just > south of the marina. My daily commute from Arlington works out very nicely with a gentle drive across the lake and through the countryside before I hit the horrors of 360. Of course the existance of commercial activity in South Grand Prairie isn't necessarily a reason for Cedar Hill to kill our rezoning problems. Cedar Hill won't get taxes from GP commercial activity - to the contrary, they'll actually lose money from CH residents crossing the border into GP to make their purchases. Having a strip mall at the top of the hill would tend to prevent CH residents from driving all the way over to Grand Peninsula and thus keep the taxes local. Oh well - I guess that's a separate battle. ----------------------------- Steve Baker ------------------------------- HomeMail : <sjb...@ai...> WorkMail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1 Projects : http://plib.sf.net http://tuxaqfh.sf.net http://prettypoly.sf.net http://tuxkart.sf.net http://freeglut.sf.net http://toobular.sf.net |

The new CH zoning ordinance was adopted at a regular council meeting on March 27, 2001. Prior to this there were two public hearings held at the CH High School auditorium where the combined City Council and P&Z board received public input. There were two combined meetings held at the Community Center (just across the street from the subject property) where zoning issues were worked through by the council and board. There were at least two opportunities for the public to submit written comments about the rezoning. Alot of work was put into the rezoning and the subject property was left Estate. I believe the comprehensive plan also shows the property Estate. I do not know what the rules are for the sign posting of rezoning of a piece of property but the signs appear to be nonexistent along old Mansfield Road and the one on Belt Line is detached from the stake and difficult to see. Grand Prairie has a major development underway down the hill "generally located west of Lakeridge Parkway and north of Hangar Lowe Road" just south of the marina. The initial phase is 443 lots on 399.74 acres with general retail and commercial. The total plan calls for possibly 1300 homes. Anyone wanting GR and commercial should be able to find it by just coasting down the hill. Ask GP planning department about Grand Peninsula. M. Johnson |

I have added the email addresses of everyone who attended todays meeting
to the rezoning action group's mailing list.
This means that anyone who sends email to:
too...@li...
...will actually be sending to everyone who is subscribed to the list. If you
hit 'Reply' to a message sent to you from the mailing list, that reply also
goes to everyone.
This will enable us to communicate quickly and easily whenever new information
is uncovered or action needs to be taken.
The web site that I have set up is here:
http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1/rezone
...I apologise that the names are not 'snappier' and easy to remember - but
it was the best I could do at short notice.
On the web site are scans of the letters we have received and some maps
that show what is being proposed.
Be aware that this is a PUBLIC mailing list - and everything you say is
archived and potentially could be seen by the developer or the city
council (although that's unlikely and I do know the email addresses of
everyone who subscribes).
I welcome comments about the mailing list and web site - send them to
me personally - or to the list. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of
town until next Saturday.

If you looked on my website, you'll see from the map that they've only notified people who live within 200 feet of the land they are rezoning. That's pretty sneaky (although it's evidently legal) because 90% of the people who will have their property values devalued by this if it goes through would never get to hear about it (unless everyone spreads the word). We only just touched the 200ft boundary - the very tip of our property at the very top of the hill just touches the boundary...so we very nearly didn't hear about it. The reason you may not have been asked to sign the petition *MAY* be because the appeal process says that 20% of the people within 200 feet of the rezoning must express a desire to appeal it. So perhaps they are only getting people within the 200ft boundary to sign....I could be wrong about that though. Francoise would know. At any rate - I'm getting very concerned - time is getting short and there doesn't seem to be anything like enough people running around putting together some kind of an organized campaign. ----------------------------- Steve Baker ------------------------------- HomeMail : <sjb...@ai...> WorkMail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1 Projects : http://plib.sf.net http://tuxaqfh.sf.net http://tuxkart.sf.net http://agtoys.sf.net http://prettypoly.sf.net http://freeglut.sf.net http://toobular.sf.net |

Hi! I'm Steve Baker from 1925 W.Beltline. I just noticed your subscription to the protest newsgroup - you are the first, so there isn't a whole lot of discussion here yet! I don't know about you - but so far, the only activity I've seen in the neighbourhood has been a petition that's going round. I think that's a good thing - but I doubt that it'll be enough. Time is running awfully short before the first hearing and I think it's going to need us to figure out who will speak for us all and what are the arguments that can win this kind of debate. I would expect that there are enough professionals living around here that we'd have some lawyers and political types who are GOOD at this kind of thing - I know I'm not. ----------------------------- Steve Baker ------------------------------- HomeMail : <sjb...@ai...> WorkMail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1 Projects : http://plib.sf.net http://tuxaqfh.sf.net http://tuxkart.sf.net http://agtoys.sf.net http://prettypoly.sf.net http://freeglut.sf.net http://toobular.sf.net |
