If you can send through a save game file with this scenario, it really helps in working out what is going wrong. Phil On 12 June 2014 13:35, Luiz Cláudio S. I'm currently playing 1856 by e-mail with some friends using Rails 1.8.8. While I was simulating some possible outcomes for an upcoming OR, I hit a snag, and perhaps someone from the list can help. One of the players has only two president certificates, from two different companies. One of his companies loses all trains to rust and he has to buy a new train, and he must put money from his pocket. Rails offers him this option. However, in the Game Status window, he has no certificates that he can sell. No certificate is highlighted, but no active command allows him to declare bankruptcy. The game is stuck. Is there some command that I'm not seeing? -- "Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of our imagination is incalculable." Hi Sourcforge, I'm currently involved in a six player game of 1830 with the Simple Variant option selected. The "6" trains have been purchased but we are unable to lay the grey tiles. Is this a known problem and is there a solution we can implement? I am using Rails version 1.8.6 and several of the other players are using version 1.8.7. Regards, John |

Hi Guys & Girls interested in 18xx, i created a poll on boardgames geek to find out whats wanted on that front for rails development. http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1159352/next-18xx-game-to-implement-in-rails Perhaps you can spare some time and let us know, what would be your preference to have implemented. And yes we always appreciate volunteers to code and implement more variants. REgards Martin |

Thanks for the report Justin, you are right that has to be fixed in Rails. Please be aware that 18TN is not frequently played, so please be careful to check if everything works fine. Especially those little details that are different to 1830 might not work as the rules claim. I would be happy to receive your save file after game end to add it to our sample of automated game tests. Stefan Details: Actually I realized that the rules for private company selling in 18TN are a little more complicated: Paragraph 4.2.6 in the current rules version, there two options to purchase a private company: * In the first OR each major may buy ONE private for face value. (A subtle question is if a short OR during the initial auction phase would be treated as the first OR with respect to this rule). * Otherwise after the first 3 train is purchased for 0.5 times face < price < 1.5 times value Thus the multiplier has to be changed and the first exception have to be added. I will fix those issues in Rails 2.0, however I doubt that it will be backported to Rails 1.x? Sorry if this is known, but I checked the wiki and searched the ML and did not see it listed. Currently, rails is allowing privates to be purchased for up to 200% of face value but the correct limit should be 150% (after phase 3 has begun). Justin |

Hello, I just play a game of 1835 for the first time. I downloaded rails recently. I have the following problem: I own 90% of two companies. Therefore I may buy two shares above the share limit. But the program doesn't let me do it. I tried: If I would own only 80% of a company the program would let me buy another share. Do I do something wrong? Or is there a bug in the program? All users of rails, For the upcoming version 2.0 of Rails my intention is to move to Java version 1.6. Are there still serious obstacles to upgrading? Especially for those users on a Mac OS? There are several libraries used by Rails, which have moved to 1.6 support only. Thanks for your feedback, Stefan |

Rails release 1.8.6 This is a minor release fixing the following bugs: - 1880: Tile definitions : Upgrade paths for small stations in green to brown was missing. Investors who are closed remain due to technical reasons on display until the end of the current OR. This caused their homebasehexes to block new token lays, even if they had been exchanged. This is now corrected. Thank you to all who reported the bugs. Please report any bugs you find on the mailinglist as usual. Thank you for the patience and feedback. The Rails Crew wish you a Happy New Year 2014 ! Martin (together with the rest of the rails crew :)) |

We would like to announce the release of 1.8.5. Be advised that this will alter behaviour of save games (it even might break some) for the following game variants: 1880, 1856 and 1835. This is a minor release fixing the following bugs: - 1880: Operation rounds in 1880 would end after 3 occurrences with a hard reset towards the first company in the current round. Stockrounds would be ignored. The hard coded end after the third OR is now enforced at game end if specific conditions are met. Fixed definition error on Map - Water tile J16 didn't have its negative value set. Please check if the YC-Specialproperty is working as intended. - 1856: The position of the CGR-share on the stockmarket was hardcoded to the second row on formation. This has now been moved to row 0. Please check. This will break/alter all 1856 games in progress so caution is advised. - 1835: Introducing a switch name PrussianReservedIgnored. This switch if toggled to yes on game start will tell rails to ignore unavailable prussian shares (shares that have not yet been converted in the Prussianformation process) in determining if the prussian shares are sold out or not. The old and current default method will treat unconverted shares as unsold ! Contributors to this release: Stefan Frey, Volker Schnell, Martin Brumm Thank you to all who reported the bugs. Please report any bugs you find on the mailinglist as usual. Thank you for the patience and feedback. The Rails Crew wish you a Happy New Year 2014 ! Martin |

We found a map error in 1880 module. Rails map has large double city in hex H8 (tile -80020) while it should be medium double city (-80002). That error makes the Belgian investor unusable as it really needs a double small station in the hex. Antero |

Hello to all rails fans, 1.8.3. got released today. It fixes a number of bugs and glitches related to 1880 code. Our thanks go out to all the testers who sent us their reports in the last 4 weeks. The bugs reported have all been squashed (and a few more glitches that raised their heads in internal testing of the endgame). We advise people to use the Special Power of the Engineer (Building Permit in Phase D additionally) in Phase C or earlier. Currently it is possible to use the power on any turn but it wont enable the tile laying if its used in Phase D and not before for that particular turn of the target company, later turns are fine though. Contributors: Michael Alexander Martin Brumm Lars Myrin - Testing jr...@gm... - Testing Thiago Penteado - Testing Antero Kuusi - Testing Stefan Frey Stephen Yu - Testing Many thanks to all of you. The game should now be able to played with all features. If you encounter any unusual behaviour please dont hesitate to contact us via the rails-user list and remember to send a savefile! Have fun in playing (and maybe testing). Martin |

In fact Rails allows both, exclude or include a player from further bidding after a pass: => It depends on the setting "Leave auction on pass" that is set to "No" as default for 18GA. This can be changed at game start. => If I remember correctly this is not defined in the AH version of the 1830 rules. So the option was created for 1830 (default there "No" too) and it exists for all 1830 "clones" or "close derivatives", even if there is a ruling in the derivative rule book. However the default should be set to the wording in that rule book. Justin: nothing to be embarrassed about. Auction rules of 1830 have created various variants over time. The only good thing is that Rails for 1830 is so stable, that it is more likely that the bug is due to the users perception. Some time ago I proposed to introduce another level for those games instead of "fully playable", something like "mature" or "stable" to indicate that there are not many bugs to be expected, compared to what we have for example for 1835 and 1880 currently. Forgive me if this is not the correct place for this. I am involved in a game of 18GA (using Cotton Port variant map). We are four players and during the initial private auction encountered a very minor bug that is probably an easy fix for someone with intimate knowledge of the code. There were three pending bids on the OSO private company and after the preceding company auction was concluded, the first player to have a bid chose to pass. The next two players raised the bids and then the first player (who had already passed) was prompted as the next active player with the option to bid again or pass. The player should not be able to re-enter the private auction in this case. Easy to work around for now. Thanks! Justin |

Hi Antero, its definately a bug and stems from the downgrade of a city (medium) to a town in 1880. It will be fixed in 1.8.3. which might be released on the next weekend. We noticed that the train selection for foreign investors does not work correctly in all of the situations. Specifically, when the last 2T has been bought, but the first 2+2T has not yet been bought, Rails uses 2Ts for the foreign investors. The correct thing would be to use next available train, ie. 2+2T in that situation, but without causing a phase change. We have not tested with the other type changes, but I assume it is the same. |

From a different source came a bugreport. I would like to share this here, and of course the current state of work. The test had been done with 1.8.0. >steveyu wrote: >I've been testing the latest build to see if we could progress further and ran into the following that I emailed to >Martin. Item 1 Fixed in 1.8.2 Item 3 fixed in 1.8.2 Item 5 fixed in 1.8.2 Item 2,4, 6 not yet verified, still under inspection. Items 8-9 still in investigation as no save file avail 7 will be fixed in 1.8.3 4 will be fixed in 1.8.3 6 is fixed in 1.8.2 10 fixed in 1.8.2 Roadmap for 1.8.3: Fixing the remaining problems with Double-O-Tiles Fixing the remaining problems with 2R train special treatment The Revenuecalculation for the 6E and 8E will be working but should be handled manually, the code now has no chance (at least as far as i understood that specific part) to maximise the Revenue yet. I have to confirm that this is a bug indeed but also already exists in 1.7.12. We will have look at the behaviour. Can you for your group give me an insight what in 1856 should have happened if the rules would have been followed correctly ? Kind regards Martin P.s. I have not played that many 1856 games to know the rules there without deep study :) So please bear with me. |
