So this time a Release Candidate. I hope there will be only one. A few bug fixes from Beta 5, see below. And I have activated background maps and icons in the default profile to make those features available to more users. Experimental: Using macAppBundle a new zip file is available that should make installation on Macs easier. I do not have access to any Mac computer, so feedback is very welcome. However it still misses the support for code signature for Mac OS. Using open source tools signature is only possible on a Mac machine. Stefan Current Roadmap: http://github.com/freystef/Rails/wiki/Roadmap ## Installing * Webstart the beta release (all users) http://rails.sf.net/webstart/rails.jnlp * Download single exe launcher (Windows users) Download the single exe file and start it directly. http://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/2.0/ * Download single jar (Mac and *nix users) Download the single jar and start it directly (by double-click or command line "java -jar" command). http://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/2.0/ * Download single zip (Mac user, experimental) Download the single zip and it should install itself. However it is only experimental, cannot confirm that it works. ********************** Copy of the readme.txt ********************** ## Bugs fixed ### Fixed UI Bugs * Player worth is updated by any stock price change ### Fixed 1835 bugs * fixed undo bug for share selling in 1835: previously the stock price adjustment was ignored * fixed bug that PR stock price raises even if M2 was not exchanged into PR president |

Thanks for the link. I only google'd the malware's name and sourceforge and got no result. That is really disturbing, please be assured Rails never gave any permission to Sourceforge to add anything like that to our download files. How I understand the article sourceforge claims that they have stopped that practice. Technically I doubt that it effects our zipped releases of Rails 1.x releases. Or are they converted to some exe-files on Windows OS? Can anyone provide a MD5 checksum for Rails downloaded files on a Windows OS? Especially for the the current default (Rails-1.9.0 zip). It might be easier to wrap some malware around the testing launch4j Rails-2.0-beta5.exe? Can someone provide me a MD5 checksum for a Windows download? In any case another (good) reason to leave sourceforge for github as soon as possible. To all Rails users: there has been a recent user experience that after some time after installing Rails a virus/malware was on his PC. The malware is called "PlaythruPlayer", more details can be found by google. There is no reason to assume currently that Rails would install such a virus/malware on any system, however I would like to know if any other Rails user had the same experience. So far I have no information which Rails version and installation method was used. Stefan |

Another beta release for 2.0. Most likely the final one? A new feature is the support of a windows installer (via launch4j). Feedback is welcome. And again a substantial list of bug-fixes, for 1835 and the UI (see list below). Also included fixes for 1837 from Martin, which is under development. Again it took more time than expected (plus the sourceforge outage), however the number of bug fixes (especially for 1880) should compensate for this. This release is pretty stable and usable, a release candidate for 2.0 will arrive in the near future. For more information about the future roadmap check http://github.com/freystef/Rails/wiki/Roadmap Feedback is welcome! Stefan ## Availability via Webstart or Download of a single Jar * Webstart the beta release: http://rails.sf.net/webstart/rails.jnlp * Download the beta 3 jar Download the single jar and start it directly (by double-click or command line "java -jar" command). http://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/2.0/ ## New Features in beta 3 - First round sell restriction Added implementation that allows correct handling of the sell restriction during the first round of an 18xx games. There is a new GameOption that decides when the sell restriction ends. <GameOption name="FirstRoundSellRestriction" values="First Round,First Stock Round" default="First Round" /> More information are found [here] (FirstRoundSellRestriction). - New map correction mode During the correction mode tile lays are possible anywhere on the map. Only upgrades are possible, no downgrades. Terrain costs are ignored and (if required) have to be assigned to a company with a cash correction. ## Bug Fixes in beta 3 ### Fixed 1830 bugs: - Add correct handling of Coalfield rights (both tile laying and revenue calculation) ### Fixed 1880 bugs: - Definition of tiles 8858, 8854, 8885 were wrong (sides connected to sides, instead sides to the towns), Effect was wrong revenue calculations - Added Beijing 8887, 8888 to handemade tiles, as they cannot be setup correctly with TileDesigner - Fixed definition of tile 8879 (Shanghai): Loop track from city to city - Fixed definition of tile 8880 (Shanghai): Duplicate track definition, wrong side to side connection instead of side to city - Fixed definition of tile 455: wrong name (495) - Fixed definition of Bejing green 8886: Loop track from city to city, duplicate track definition - Added Beijing -80004 to handemade tiles, cannot be setup correctly with TileDesigner - Reverted to the working version of Ferry modifier (based on RevenueBonuses defined on map.xml) - Fixed omission in Express Modifier: Protect ferry modifier vertices to incorporate ferry maluses for express trains - Fixed bug on Mouse-Overs for player certificates details: president was always shown as 20% certificate - Only offer tile lays for which the company has the permission to lay that tile colour - Improved undo/redo behavior during operating rounds by adding state variables - Fixed wrong 1880 Stockmarket attribute - Fixed double reporting of 'company operates' for investors in 1880 - Fixed display bug in Investor exchange message - Reordered player order shown in report window - Selection of Building Rights: Show only selections with the correct number of building rights - Added Par-Slot and Rights chosen after purchase of director to the report window - Fixed bug that have the game terminate before the last company operates - Fixed bug that 6E, 8, 8E trains ignored towns - Added brokerage fee to report window - Do not show zero payoffs of Privates in later phases - Fixed wrong output to report window: no discard of trains to pool anymore, added option to TrainManager where to discard trains ### Fixed 18EU bugs: - Rails stopped during StartRound |

Hi, to get more feedback on the UI, I will try to make some more suggestions how to improve the Rails 2.0 UI. Those who tried the 2.0 beta already know that the buttons Confirm/Skip have been move to the top of the upgrade panel and are always visible (green circle in the attached image). First reason for that was to avoid scrolling down the upgrade panel to finalize the tile lay. I realized that now one has to use the buttons at the top of the upgrade panel for tile/token laying, but the buttons at the bottom of the OR window for later actions (payout, buy trains etc). My suggestion is to make UI easier is: A) Remove the button panel at the bottom of the OR window. B) Move the undo/redo buttons to the bottom of the upgrade panel (always visible) C) Move the action buttons (payout/withhold/buy train) to the top of the upgrade panel. This implies that the action buttons will change depending on the activity. Open question is where to move "Buy Private". One possibility is to move the buy Private button to a entry of the special menu? Or a separate entry of the menu? Other ideas? Feedback and other/further ideas are welcome. Stefan |

From the release notes: Rails release 1.9 This is a minor/major release fixing the following bugs: - 1880 : Fixed bug in placement of home bases for major companies Fixed bug in handling of home base token on Beijing Hex Fixed bug in starting a company with 40% share and investor and not receiving full cash Added Log messages for the protocol regarding the Cash received upon a company reaching 50 percent. Now the Expresstrains should be calculated correctly -> Thanks to Stefan Frey Numerous Games got improved by additions from Frederick Weld. Thank you to all our testers. ( The group at Winterburg for the Cash Problem, the Hamburg crew for the Express train and Game ending problem, and the BGG PbEM group for the Beijing tile upgrade and home base token problem). Special thanks and an apology to Frederick Weld. His fixes got overlooked in the past. Please report any bugs you find on the mailinglist as usual. Unless theres a game breaking bug for which no workaround exists or can found, this will be the last release of the 1.x-Branch. WORK WILL CONTINUE ON RAILS 2.0 Thank you for the patience and feedback. Martin |

Hi, thanks for reporting. Unfortunately I cannot give you a better answer than the following: Loading your game file with either your current version 1.8.8, or with the current 1.8.x release 1.8.11 the bug can be reproduced. Same is true for 1.7.13. However it is clearly shown in your picture that it has been reported. It is only possible to figure with the log file that is written in the working directory of rails. However the most likely reason for that behavior: The tile/token redo/undo mechanism has some edge cases that do not work correctly in rails 1.x. If you believe in rails 1.x the calculation is wrong, save a game file and load the save file again, if the calculation changes, it was due to a redo/undo bug. In rails 2.0 the undo/redo mechanism is rewritten nearly from scratch and should avoid such issues in the future. Stefan On 09/15/2014 11:25 AM, Luiz Cláudio Silveira Duarte wrote: > Hi, folks. Hi, folks. I'm currently playing 1856 using Rails 1.8.8. We are at endgame, with several diesels running. THB, the first company running on OR 9.1, has many possibilities for its tile. The two attached image files show that Rails shows a longer route if a tile is placed on I18 (although it isn't traversed by the route). If, however, the new tile is placed on N15, the proposed route is shorter. The N15 tile should allow for the longer route, with the addition of Welland (N17) to the route. Or at least so it seems to me. Can one of the developers take a look at it? Many thanks. -- Semper imitatum, nunquam idem. Hoc volo, sic jubeo, sit pro ratione voluntas. Hello, today the version 1.8.10 of rails got released. This version fixes one major bug in the handling of stock selling. Previously the code would only adjust the stock price by one slot per sale (even if multiple shares got sold in one action). This behaviour has been corrected. Now an action that causes a number of shares of the same company to be sold will adjust the stockprice per 10% value. Please be advised that this new version will possibly break old save games (if multiple shares got sold in the same action). Regards, Martin |

Good afternoon everyone, the Version 1.8.9 including the 1880 variant has been released on sourcceforge: Extract from the readme below: This is a minor release fixing the following bugs: - 1880: Fixed the following problems: Investor able to operate in communist phase End of game not triggered correctly Transsib Modifier missing Fixed tile definitions for 8854,8856, 8855 and 8858 Due to changed end Game behaviour this release might break games in progress after the sales/discarding of the 6E in the later stages of the game. If you erronously had a stockround after the 8E got discarded or soldout this release will definately throw an error. Please proceed with caution. Existing savefiles wont be overwritten if you used the standard savefile configuration. Enjoy, Martin |

Good afternoon, Rails 1.7.13 has been released with a number of fixes for 1835 and one fix for 1856. Please be aware that the fix for 1856 will break existing games if certain conditions apply. So use with distinction on 1856 games in progess. Regards Martin |

Thanks for your report: Seems that Rails does not handle the case where forced selling is started, however there is no single share available for the player to sell. In that case Rails should immediately declare bankruptcy, instead of switching to emergency share selling without any action offered. ;-) However it is not a "critical" bug, as the game ends anyway and Undo is still possible. Will be put on the list of bugs to fix in upcoming 2.0. If the situation in your true game arises, you can do the ranking based on the players worth in game status.
