Thanks for checking, Phil. We've periodically found "bugs" while using RAILS, but haven't been diligent about reporting them (I'll try to "fix" that problem in the future). -TWHJr ________________________________ From: Phil Davies <de...@gm...> To: "thomas wall hannaford, jr." <twa...@ya...> Cc: Chris Shaffer <chr...@gm...>; Paul Zieske <pau...@gm...>; "rai...@li..." <rai...@li...>; Ken Soo <dr...@ho...>; Paul A Zieske <zi...@ju...> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 4:37 PM Subject: Re: [Rails-users] Fw: 1856PTK-OR3b> Paul CA & RAILS "bug" I can see what's going on, I think rails is checking all possible orientations of the tile lay on F17 in order to see if it's a legal play. I can see what's going on, I think rails is checking all possible orientations of the tile lay on F17 in order to see if it's a legal play. Chris & Aliza, you may both be correct. However I'm looking at this as a feature (projected potential tile-lays), already included in the RAILS program, that isn't working correctly. What RAILS proposed, in this situation, as a potential 'CA' upgrade tile-lay, wouldn't be allowable under any 18XX RAW, that I'm aware of. -TWHJr ________________________________ From: Chris Shaffer <chr...@gm...> To: "thomas wall hannaford, jr." <twa...@ya...> Cc: Aliza Panitz <ali...@gm...>; Ken Soo <dr...@ho...>; Paul A Zieske <zi...@ju...>; Paul Zieske <pau...@gm...>; "rai...@li..." <rai...@li...> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 1:29 PM Subject: Re: [Rails-users] Fw: 1856PTK-OR3b> Paul CA & RAILS "bug" I think Aliza is pointing out that you are making a feature request, not a bug report. -- Chris Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail. Aliza, the RAILS program must have an algorithm/code that "projects" possible (?) tile-lays; this needs to be refined so that it only works with accessible current track-tiles that can be upgraded, or accessible current (dead-end?) track-tiles that can be extended. -TWHJr ________________________________ From: Aliza Panitz <ali...@gm...> To: "thomas wall hannaford, jr." <twa...@ya...> Cc: "rai...@li..." <rai...@li...>; Ken Soo <dr...@ho...>; Paul A Zieske <zi...@ju...>; Paul Zieske <pau...@gm...> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 6:44 AM Subject: Re: [Rails-users] Fw: 1856PTK-OR3b> Paul CA & RAILS "bug" Rails has never claimed to enforce track-laying rules. A new maintenance release for the Rails 1.x series. Downloads are available at http://rails.sourceforge.net/ or by the direct link http://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/1.7.12/ This release fixes a single bug. Contributors: Erik Vos Bug reported by Volker Schnell 1835: after resuming an OR after a PR formation round, a check was missing if the (minor) operating company still exists. Fix: finish the turn if the operating company is closed at that point. |

Two bugs: - If you try to add a comment at the start of the game before any move has been made, the game stops working. You can make a bid or purchase a private, but the round never progresses to the next player. - If you save the game at the start before any move has been made, the game bugs on reloading, similar symptoms as above. This came up when I tried to start a game for play through dropbox and email, where I'm not the first player out. Thanks to the developers for making this very nice piece of software! thanks for the great work. It is getting to a point where it's really usable over the net soon! A repeatable error: 1835 first building round: Bayern puts a tile on it's own station field, then forgets to click 'lay tile', then puts a little curve to the field on the left. When now trying to lay it's home tile second, the program crashes completely, and can't even be saved any more. cheers! A new maintenance release for Rails 1.x series Downloads are available at http://rails.sourceforge.net/ or by the direct link http://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/1.7.1/ This release fixes several recent bugs. Contributors: Erik Vos, Martin Brumm, Stefan Frey Bugs reported by John David Galt, Volker Schnell, Mike Bourke, Arne Östlund, Jerry Anderson (I hope I forgot to list no one). A few minor improvements to the rails setup: - An (initial) configuration profile for face-to-face/hotseat play is added ("hotseat"): Activates autosave and changes filename pattern suggested for save. - Windows settings (including docking settings if activated) and autosave backup are stored in the centralized rails configuraton folder. Thus from this release on those settings should survive upgrades to new releases. List of bugs fixed: - Typo in manifest that caused image errors in some background maps - 18EU: Not possible to lay home token for companies started outside of current network. - 1856, 18EU, 1830 Coalfield and others: Fixed wrong calculation for routes for Goderich tile, red off-board run-through (-939) - 18Kaas: Enables unlimited D-trains option - 1835: Fixed wrong total player worth calculation - 1835: Fixed wrong revenue calculation with respect to Elsas/Alsace outside of green phase |

Hi Kévin, welcome to Rails. A good start is to checkout the wiki (check the link on the homepage of Rails). It describes how to setup a development environment for Rails (using Eclipse). There are already some xml files for 1870 from a long time ago: It seems that the base parameters have already been setup. Unfortunately there are some rules in 1870 which will require development of at least intermediate difficulty (e.g. price protection, destination tokens and some of the private companies special features). One of the reasons for my redesign for Rails2.0 was to be better able to add the features required for 1870. If you have experience with other titles closer to those already implemented, it might be easier to start with those. However you can always ask for comments and feedback using the development list, so feel free to start with what you like best. From the 1880 rulebook: - As soon as the Director owns the qualifying number of shares at the end of a Share Round, the company becomes operational and its home station is placed, free of charge, on the space designated for it on the map. A further marker is placed on the appropriate starting place on the Share Price Chart. ? In Phase A1 (beginning of the game) the qualifying number of shares is 20%. ? In Phase B1 (first 3-train is bought) the qualifying number of shares is 30%. ? In Phase B3 (first 4-train is bought) the qualifying number of shares is 40%. ? In Phase C2 (first 6-train is bought) the qualifying number of shares is 60%. - If at the end of a Share Round there are no shares available in a company, it opens, irrespective of whether the Director owns the qualifying number of shares. The Director has to float it himself. The all shares sold rule is to keep the other players from conspiring to keep it from floating. -------------------------------------------- Tom McCorry Sent from my iPad On Mar 26, 2012, at 11:31, "Dutton, Richard" <r.d...@as...> wrote: > A couple of comments: > > I believe that to float a company in 1880 the right number of shares have to be in players’ hands at the end of the stock round, so buying and then selling to the market doesn’t work. > > Is there a rule that lets the Rocket owner discard a train to accept the second T4? > > Rick > > From: Tom McCorry [mailto:tom...@gm...] > Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 9:36 AM > To: Dr....@t-... > Cc: zi...@ju...; twa...@ya...; jbe...@gm...; ed...@we...; Rails Development; Rails Users; Dutton, Richard > Subject: Re: [Rails-users] BugFix Release for Rails 1880 Alpha5 available - still buggy? > > A few other esoteric rules to work on at some point if not handled already: > > 1) A company only floats when then the Director has the required number of shares or the company is sold out. However, I did see: BCR getting a choice of building rights - it's always a 20% certif so should be ABC or BCD only - but this is minor. More criticial issues: you don't get Private investor share, cash, and 50 bonus when you connect - they stay running; it runs routes through, not just to, Taiwan - like if it was city/town; tried to upgrade yellow to green on river and it asked for more money to pay for it; looks like some private company gives ability to lay unconnected track; you can't buy more than 50% of companies. > Best regards, Paul > > ---------- Original Message ---------- > > Hi Guys, if you experience any problems please send me the save file. > Regards, Martin > > > Also, Paul has been "playing" with '1880' from this version of RAILS, and experienced the problems described below (Dr. Brumm please note), so we need to keep an eye on things. > > > I downloaded the game from the dropbox. Then started a game as a trial. Some problems: cash was associated with the wrong player. For example player #1 had 200+ and couldn't buy anything, but #2 who had 80 was able to continue buying 100 value shares. One of my players started the HKR (the one that starts in Shanghai) and there are no tiles available for Shanghai. Finally, when the company order got around to the point when the rest of the 2Ts disappear and you have a stock round, the stock round was okay I think, except for the player cash issue, but then the game went back to the company whose turn was interrupted by the SR, and was asking if it wanted to buy a train or be done. 2+2Ts were not available though they should be, and also selecting "done" didn't end the company's turn. > Paul > > > > ____________________________________________________________ > 53 Year Old Mom Looks 33 > The Stunning Results of Her Wrinkle Trick Has Botox Doctors Worried > consumerproducts.com > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > This SF email is sponsosred by: > Try Windows Azure free for 90 days Click Here > http://p.sf.net/sfu/sfd2d-msazure > _______________________________________________ > Rails-users mailing list > Rai...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rails-users |

I believe that "is for" mandates the specific size of the certificate. Hi I'm a new user on the mailing list and a french 18XX player. I've got 1870, 1830 and 18AL at home. I've tested and approved Rails with 1830 and 18AL games and wish to add 1870 to the playable games. How can I help ? I'm webmaster so I can deal with XML files and do a little development if it's not too complicated. Best regards -- Kévin |

A couple of comments: I believe that to float a company in 1880 the right number of shares have to be in players’ hands at the end of the stock round, so buying and then selling to the market doesn’t work. Is there a rule that lets the Rocket owner discard a train to accept the second T4? Rick From: Tom McCorry [mailto:tom...@gm...] Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 9:36 AM To: Dr....@t-... A few other esoteric rules to work on at some point if not handled already: 1) A company only floats when then the Director has the required number of shares or the company is sold out. So if it takes 4 shares to float and the Director has three and someone else has 1, the company does not float. 2) Companies only float at the end of a stock round (i.e. you can't buy enough to float and then sell down in the same SR). 3) A player's foreign investor gets a share of the first company a Director floats. It does not get a share if the player takes over the Directorship from another player. 4) A foreign investor may never close during the game (it may never connect to the associated railroad or the Player may lose the Directorship of the associated company.) Need to account for closeout of company in this manner. 5) When the first 4 train is sold, the second 4 train goes to the owner of the Rocket if still in play immediately. If the owner of the Rocket is train tight, the bonus train is lost. 6) 1880 has a loan feature for emergency train buying. 7) Bonus run for Russia to Vladasvosktok Comments on previous items: 1) As noted, there is no reason I can imagine to buy a smaller (fewer phases) building permit and is against the rules to buy a larger permit. The general design philosophy of Rails to allow what you can do in the game, enforce rules automatically when reasonable from a coding perspective, and rely on players to enforce rules like they would in a live game otherwise should apply. -------------------------------------------- Tom McCorry Sent from my iPad On Mar 26, 2012, at 7:17, "Dr....@t-..." <Dr....@t-...> wrote: Hi, as stated, currently one has to save the game after the End of the Startround Bid/SelectionPhase and quit the game. The rules state the following: The number of Building Permits is dependent on the Director's Certificate. If this is a 40% share, the Building Permit is for 1 Phase. 30% share, the Building Permit is for 2 Phases. 20% share, the Building Permit is for 3 Phases. - The Director has a free choice over which Phases. One could now argue that the phrase "is for" makes it mandatory for a director to select a 3 Phase Permit. I took the next statement to be the indication that a director might choose some other building right. (Perhaps i should recode that based on the logical assumption that no director will want to forfeit a possible building phase ? -Opinions here ?) There is currently no automatic detection of a connect situation. You have to declare the connect manually via the Reach Destination Ability of the GUI. Running Routes through Taiwan is a bug might be related to the fact that it is a town and not a city. Will check that. The Chinese River Building Company P4: The owner of P4 incurs no cost whenever they build for the first time in a river hex. If a hex shows both a river and a mountain symbol, the building cost is reduced by ¥20. You cant buy 50 % of stock until the first 3 train is sold. If you cant buy any more after the first 3 train is sold thats a bug.
