Hi, are there any plans implementing 1853? Cheers, Oliver |

I suppose this sufficiently clarifies it. I worked from the printed document when developing 1856, and I conclude that has the correct numbers. Erik. Stefan Frey has clarified this omission in a message sent 2010-08-28 17:15 to this list, as follows: "Thus the only remaining fully implemented game without noMapMode is 1856. I know which issues have to be considered (CGR merger and tokens and special tokens), but this will have to wait for the next release." In other words, 1856 has complexities that preclude releasing a NoMap mode without further development work. I can't tell when (if ever) that will happen - Stefan doesn't seems to be active these days. Hello, rails has eight variants that are labeled as fully or almost fully playable. Seven of this variants offer the option "No map mode (for ftf play", 1856 is the only one without this option. How does it come? ciao stefan PS Should I report bugs that I can document with a file but I am not able to replicate (within a short amout of time)? |

The last date I can find on the PDF rules (dubbed v1.0, but listed 2.2 or something inside) says that they are from 1994. The printed game rules don't state a version at all but does have a more recent date of 1995 in the credits. So, I'd say the printed rules should be the guide. There has always been the possibility of moving rails to a network based model where people could connect to a host to participate in the game, however this is currently quite a long way off. There are several screen sharing/conferencing applications available, perhaps using these to share your desktop with the other players would work? Personally I play with one of the PC's plugged into a large monitor and set to a low resolution so that it's visible from a distance but then that's a fairly low tech solution to the problem :) On 10 February 2011 07:11, Stefan Filonardi <jk...@gm...> wrote: > Hello, > > using rails as moderator while playing at the table has the > disadvantage that the font is quite small and not readable from far > away. > > Considering that I could give to every player a netbook, do we have > a possibility to setup a szenario with a central computer and the > netbooks as displays for the players? > > ciao stefan > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > The ultimate all-in-one performance toolkit: Intel(R) Parallel Studio XE: > Pinpoint memory and threading errors before they happen. > Find and fix more than 250 security defects in the development cycle. > Locate bottlenecks in serial and parallel code that limit performance. > http://p.sf.net/sfu/intel-dev2devfeb > _______________________________________________ > Rails-users mailing list > Rai...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rails-users > |

Hello, using rails as moderator while playing at the table has the disadvantage that the font is quite small and not readable from far away. Considering that I could give to every player a netbook, do we have a possibility to setup a szenario with a central computer and the netbooks as displays for the players? ciao stefan |

I'm pleased to announce the release of Rails 1.4.1. This is primarily a bug-fix release. Full changelog is available on our wiki: https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/rails/index.php?title=Change_Log Files are available via the sourceforge site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/1.4.1/ In addition to the release, I've finally gotten around to including generating Javadoc as a part of the release process. The Javadoc is linked off of our main http://rails.sourceforge.net page. The direct link to the javadoc is http://rails.sourceforge.net/javadoc/index.html . My hope is that this helps existing and prospective developers navigate and understand the code. ---Brett. |

A quick comparison shows that rails is using the tile manifest from the Deepthoughtgames.com copy (you can find the manifest in the rules on their site). I would imagine 18xx.net is maybe from an earlier printing and this might explain the differences? I noticed that the Tile Manifest for 1889 is not the same as that listed here: http://www.18xx.net/tiles/1889.htm Tile #4 (2x) is not on Rails, but is on this list. Tile #19 and #20 are on Rails, but is *not* on this list. Do we know which one is correct? -Tim |

Yes, it is the same bug. It has been fixed in the development code. Hello, we had a problem today with the formation of the CGR. The CGR was formed by just one company (CA) that hadn't operated yet (in OR 7.2). Share Value CV 150 The CV bought the first 6 Train triggering the formation of the CGR GT 150 THB 110 CA 100 So the CGR got immediatly an OR. After this the software started OR 7.3. The result was that the GT and THB didn't get a chance to operate. Many thanks to all developers for this great aid to our playing group. ciao stefan PS I have no idea if this is the same problem as in the bug tracker: 3122675 - 1856: Formation of CGR messes up Operating order http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3122675&group_id=132173&atid=723360 since I am not able to open that link |

Dave, I suppose Berlin is still green as this happens? The new home station prompt should mention the tile edges to which track from the empty stations leads. So you might have seen something like Berlin (S,SE) and Berlin (N,NE), or Berlin (S,SW) and Berlin (NE,SE), depending on the tile orientation. I don't have a saved file where I can test this with Berlin, but with Vienna it works fine. If someone has a saved file from which the home station prompt can be shown to be wrong, please send it to me. In case it is relevant, we were using the DTG edition of the game and playing the beginners' variant. The first was quite difficult to work around. One player, who has 132 cash, wanted to buy the director's share of the IR at 65 par. When we clicked on the treasury shares, the pop-up dialog asked if he wanted to start the IR with a par price of 0. If we cancelled the dialog and tried again, we got the same result. If we clicked OK, another dialog popped up to say that this wasn't a valid par price! As an experiment, if that player sold another share first, to get more cash in hand, and then tried to buy the director's share of the IR, we got the usual dialog offering the full range of par prices. [EV] This is a bug: the UI doesn't correctly handle the case where there is just enough cash available to start a company at the lowest price only. This has been fixed in the code base. The second issue was that the green Takamatsu tile had only one marker space in Rails. It should have two. [EV] Tile #440 should be replaced. I will look at that later. A less important issue was that the distribution of privates had to be entered using the normal auction dialog, rather than being randomly dealt. This was easy to work around. We just dealt the physical certificates and bought them in the appropriate order. [EV] Random dealing has not yet been implemented in Rails. I also noticed that the set-up options for Rails listed an optional 3rd 6-train. I don't think this exists in 1889? [EV] I suppose this is caused by copy-and-pasting from 1830. Indeed the rules don't mention an optional 6-train. If nobody objects, I will remove this option.
