Hi, i'm new in gnu plot. I'm trying to plot the histogram produced by the command latency -g name_file of Xenomai, but I obtained this message: "warning: skipping unreadable file "latency - gr", no data in plot. I use the command gnuplot -e 'input_file="latency -g gr"; output_file="/path/gr.png"; graph_title="graph" ' /path/histo.gp in according with the script histo.gp. Can someone help me, please? I don't know if there's an exact command for this, but by executing: set xtics scale 0,1.0 set mxtics 2 before your plotting line, you make the major xtics 0 in size, the minor xtics 1 in size, place one minor extic between every major xtic. More information is in help set xtics, as usual. OK I found that the "right" option in set xtics rotate by 45 right will automatically do the job and there is no need for offset. Done! I have just released new versions of two Perl-gnuplot interface modules to the CPAN archive: - Alien::Gnuplot - v1.010 Alien::Gnuplot handles configuration management and executable validation for gnuplot-using Perl modules. Alien::Gnuplot works under POSIX environments and MSWin32 environments. It verifies that a gnuplot executable is installed, and extracts its version and some configuration info into Perl global variables. Plots red boxes with "abc" etc. as label.

Consider only the part of the command you ask about:

There are 2 or 3 problems here.
One is fairly simple:
The "smooth csplines" must come immediately after the "using ...." part
of the command. So you would need to move the "with filledcurve" to the end:
? plot 'data.dat' using 1:($4-sqrt($5)):($4+sqrt($5)) smooth csplines w filledcu
However a bigger problem is that the "smooth" operation _replaces_ your
original data with a new curve defined by only an x value from the first
"using" column and a smoothed y value from the second "using" column.
The third "using" column is ignored, and no longer exists after the smoothing
operation. This confuses the "with filledcurves" command, so we'll call it
a bug that the program does not issue some error or warning message.
If you remove the third "using" column, you'll see better what is happening:
? plot 'data.dat' using 1:($4-sqrt($5)) smooth csplines w filledcu
That command does give you a filled curve from the smoothed data,
but of course it's not quite the curve you wanted.
Possibly this two-part solution is acceptable:
plot "data.dat" using 1:($4+sqrt($5)) smooth csplines w filledcu lc rgb "black", \
"" using 1:($4-sqrt($5)) smooth csplines w filledcu lc rgb "white"
That wouldn't quite work in the general case, but it works in your case because
we know that y-sqrt(foo) is always less than y+sqrt(foo) so the second curve
is strictly less or equal to the first curve.

Hello, I want to use smoothing with the filledcurves plot, but I am unable to do so. When I add smooth csplines to the command it will only consider the first two columns and disregard the third column and plot a line, not two lines with filled center, so to speak. Column 4 increases monotonically, then jumps back to 0 and starts increasing again. These “logical blocks” are delimited by the “bandindex“ lines. If I plot this as “p 'file' u 4:5 w p”, everything works fine. But what I would like to do is plot it with lines; then I get diagonal lines through my plot whenever column 4 jumps. How can I avoid these lines in a comfortable way? Of course I can do “p "<perl -pe 's/band.*//' file" u 4:5 w l”, then the “logical blocks” become “gnuplot blocks” suppressing the diagonal lines. But I do this a lot interactively so that would be a pain to type. It is also not practical for me to change the format of the file. One way that I could imagine this to work is if I could tell gnuplot that lines "*band*" should delimit blocks (or lines containing non-numeric data, say). Another way would be if I could define an “input filter” to be applied to all data files. Is anything like that possible in gnuplot? Elias |
