I am measuring the flatness of a piece of silicon. The silicon is 30mm by 60 mm. I am using splot to produce a 3D plot of the measurements. I'd like to have the X axis twice as long as the Y axis instead of the equal length default. I haven't found any way to do this. I tried 'set size ratio 2' but apparently that applies only to 2D plots. Does anyone know how to tell splot to use X and Y axis lengths of a specified size (or ratio)? Thanks. Richard Stover |

Hi, Firstly thanks that you take the time answering me. It is strange, other people using Origin (a program I do not know at all) tell me, that they get a correlation value. I am told, that the definition is: kor(X,Y) =3D cov(X,Y) / (sqrt(var(x)* var(y))) (kor stand for correlation, var stands for variance and cov stands for covariance). Now gnuplot gives me "variance of residuals", but what's about "cov"? Unfortanly, another value for the goodness does not really help because I a= m requested to proved the correlation. Thanks again! Hello together, I am fitting Data into a linear function, like f(x)=a*x. Now I want the correlation value for the fit. All I get is the correlation matrix, which is always one :(. I must admit, that I do not know exactly what the correlation value is. How can I get it? Thanks! Nathan |

It's your data, so I have no way of telling if, and by how much, such a movement may be allowable. The fact that you omitted all x axis ticking and labeling seems to suggest you couldn't care less. But nobody except you can decide that. |

Graupner, Daniel (K-GEFE) wrote: > To explain, I want to have output to x11 and epslatex at the same time, > without to modify the script and run it again. Is it possible in 4.1? No. But you don't have to modify a script just to let it run on different terminals. Just don't put any set term or set output commands in the script itself, and you can set term push ; set term epslatex set output 'my.eps' load 'script.gpl' unset output set term pop You can even put the above in a script, write $1 instead of 'script.gpl', and 'call' it: call 'to_epslatex' 'script.gpl' |

Hallo, I want to use a terminal chain, especially a chain with 2 elements (like unix tee command). To explain, I want to have output to x11 and epslatex at the same time, without to modify the script and run it again. Is it possible in 4.1? Regards, Daniel. |

Hi I am trying to increase the boxwidth of a plot. The first one is here: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~shehjart/temp/temp.png Now I tried to increase the boxwidth(set boxwidth 3) of the bars but on inreasing that, the boxes overlap like this: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~shehjart/temp/temp2.png What commands should I use to remove the overlap here? You don't have the necessary packages installed to compile X11 applications. The critical on will be called 'x-devel' or something like that. Install it, and re-do the gnuplot build starting at the 'configure' step. |

Hi All I am trying to set the terminal to x11, since i noticed that gnuplot wasnt displaying the plot window. I had just built the 4.1 version from the cvs. I tried using --with-x option from the configure script but it still doesnt work. The X11 also does not get displayed among the list of terminals in the output of 'set terminal' command, which is obvious. I could've used 4.0 from APT but I need 4.1 for the new histogram features. Any help would be appreciated. TIA Shehjar |

That's not due to the gnuplot update as such, but to the way you (or someone) compiled that update. Your previous gnuplot was built with GNU readline, your new one isn't. Rebuild your new one --with-readline=gnu, and see. |

Hi: I'm doing my doctoral thesis in physics here at Instituto Balseiro, Bariloche Argentina. I generally use gnuplot to see the results of my simulations. Resently I have upgraded it, and sadly found that I've lost the auto completion of words with the TAB command. I have also lost the "Home" and "End" keys. Could you please tell me how to fix these problems? Regards Ms. Lic. Tom=E1s Guozden.- |

It was an explicit choice by the person who implemented the first edition of the epslatex driver. If you don't like that, you'll have to consider switching to the older pslatex driver, or to the development version, which has a complete rewrite of both drivers combined into a single source. |

Hello,
I want to integrate some gnuplot data plots in latex.
My plot looks like this:
plot "Penetration-100.out" using 1:3 "NN %lf %lf %lf" title
"100\\%" with lines, \
"Penetration-70.out" using 1:3 "NN %lf %lf %lf" title "70\\%"
with lines, \
"Penetration-40.out" using 1:3 "NN %lf %lf %lf" title "40\\%"
with lines, \
"Penetration-20.out" using 1:3 "NN %lf %lf %lf" title "20\\%"
with lines, \
"Penetration-10.out" using 1:3 "NN %lf %lf %lf" title "10\\%"
with lines
Under x11 I get the richt plot in different distinguishable colours. At
the moment I use epslatex as terminal only 4 colours seem to be
supported, this is ugly since I want to plot 5 lines and the last line
has the same colour as the first. No chance to distinguish between them.
How can I deal with this? I know that eps supports more than 4 colours
so where does the limitation came from?
Regards,
Daniel.

Possible: yes. But gnuplot won't do it for you. You need to compute the deltas outside gnuplot, e.g. with a little Perl or awk script. Once you have such a filter program, you can use it from inside gnuplot: plot '< awk -f deltas.awk datafile' using 1:2 |

I am pretty sure you would have to do that externally. Gnuplot is not well= suited for data manipulation. After all, its a plotting program. Please hold it right there. There's little or no point whatsoever to
look at version 3.7 --- version 4.0 is the current release version, and
we really don't have the manpower to spare to support any versions older
than that.

Almost certainly. But it's nearly impossible to know what. Certainly
not without seeing the commands you sent to gnuplot.

Bascially from the states of 'set size' and 'set output' at the moment
the plot is actually started (either by the '{s,}plot' command itself,
or by 'set multiplot').

Hi,
I'm trying to work out how BoundingBox is calculated with gnuplot,
especially what may have changed between versions. On a Solaris 8 server
we have a very old version (v3.5) that was provided as part of an
application that produces the postscript files and when they're printed
they come off printed centrally as expected ( %%BoundingBox: 50 50 1619
2291 ). However when using a newer version (v3.7) on Linux, with the same
input file the results are different ( %%BoundingBox: -1014 50 554 2291 )
and the printing is not correct. As a test have tried v3.7 on the Solaris
server and it produces the same results as Linux. Has something changed
regarding how this setting is arrived at between versions??? And how does
gnuplot work out these figures to pass to the postscript output file???
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Phil.
