Hello, I'm new to the List and a new gnuplot user as well. I hope you don't mind my asking this beginner's question. Here it goes: I am trying to make a plot of the region in xy-plane bounded by the curves x=-y^2, x-y=4, y=-1 and y=2. This is what I got so far: set trange [-1:2] set xrange [-5:7] set yrange [-2:3] unset key set size 1,1 set origin 0,0 set multiplot set size 1,1 set origin 0,0 plot 2 lt -1, -1 lt -1, sqrt(-x) lt -1, -sqrt(-x) lt -1, x-4 lt -1 set size 1,1 set origin 0,0 set parametric plot -t**2, t lt 5 with filledcu y2, t+4, t lt -2 with filledcu y2 unset multiplot reset It took me the whole afternoon to come up with this ;) The problem is I can't see distinctly and completely the lines that make up the boundary of the region. What be done? is there anything such as depth as in xfig or is there an easier way to achieve this? I will appreciate any help. Thanks, Luiz Fernando |

Actually many examples you can find from the web. My problem is tougher than that. I have a friend who could get the plot updated on one-window by lauching something like this: gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot0 gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot1 gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot1 But now it does not work any more. I tried to use gnuplot to disply a set of x-y plots
on ONE frame/window, instead of poping more windows.
And I cannot merger fplot1 with flot0 since it was
not generated yet. (A real time data display.)
Here is what I did:
gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot0
gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot1
gnuplot -persist -clear -tvtwm < fplot1
where fplot0 contains
plot "force.dat" using 1:2 title 'Column' with linespoints
save 'my.plt';
and fplot1 contains
load 'my.plt';
replot "force.dat" using 1:2 title 'Column' with linespoints
I thought it should work, but it did not. Still poping more
windows.
Does anybody have a better idea?

Try starting out with the existing 'vector.dem' (which does work here), and try if you can modify it to break. |

I'm trying to plot some 2D and 3D vector fields for a calculus class. I have a Debian Sarge system with gnuplot 4.0 and it can successfully do 2D plots from datafiles with vectors. The same binary prints only a + where the head of the vector would be when I try to do something similar for 3D data using splot. So today I downloaded the source for gnuplot from CVS and built it. It does a beautiful job of printing my 3D vector fields. However, when I plot 2D data with plot, all of the arrows are missing their heads. It would seem that either my vectors are being drawn with the line style by mistake or that the head style of the arrows is broken. Seems like a bug. Other than that, I am delighted with my output.
