OK, I substituted make with gmake in the prepare script. There are a lot of= =20 warnings but it finishes now and I can build gnuplot. Seems to work. Thanks for the hint, Daniel. |

You don't include the column in an equation, you apply a function to the data before plotting them. This a problem with your make: it failed to substitute "$<" in the rule for building Makefile.am.in. autoconf/automake is a little picky. It expects people who use it to have a fully GNUified work setup, including a 'make' that is actually GNU make. Our 'prepare' script makes similar requirements. So: either you do your ./prepare runs on a Linux box, or you set up a completely GNUish environment for running it. |

I'm working with a project at school and are struggling with a task in=20 Gnuplot. I don't know if it's possible. I have an ASCII file with about 20 columns of numbers (one of those colum= ns=20 are barometric pressure) and there is no problem making a graph of any of= the=20 columns. The task I'm struggling with is how to include one of those colu= mns=20 in an equation, and get a graph. I will try to describe this by an exampl= e. One of the columns is some thousand samples of barometric pressure as a r= ocket=20 goes up. I'm getting a nice curve from those samples. I also have an equa= tion=20 which I may use to calculate the height from barometric pressure. How May= I=20 get Gnuplot to use this equation and the column from the ASCII file to gi= ve me=20 an altitude graph? Frank R. Hi Jules, This is because you don't have installed the needed libraries. In order to be able to generate png (and jpeg) files, you have to install the GD library based PNG driver (observe you have to install the assciated "dev" packages too). Try to install that first, and then recompile gnuplot. I hope this helps Cheers Hern=E1n On 3/23/06, Jules K. Hi, I have installed GNUplot 4.0 on a Linux system (Red Hat Enterprise Operating System) to have generate graphics for IP Audit software. I am getting the message bellow from the IP Audit home page: the image (png format) cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. The IP Audit shows the statistics of the network usage, but it cannot displays the graphics. When running GNUplot, it says that "terminal set to unknown", if I set the terminal to png, it says unknown or ambiguous terminal type. I will appreciate your help. Dear Gnuplot users,
I'm trying to use a pm3d map to plot the isotopic distribution as a
function of atomic number (Z) and mass number (A).
I have three main doubts:
First.- I would like to assign the colours directly onto the integer
values (centred in the values: Z,A), extending to half a unit up and
down in both directions.
Currently, by using corners2colors {c1|c2|c3|c4} I can obtain the value
of the crossing points in one of the intermediate regions, but never
centred around the crossing point (which would be useful to read the
value as a function of Z and A).
Second.- I would like to expand the x (A) axis in order to obtain square
pixels (not the rectangular ones I get now). That is to set a one-to-one
scale between both axis.
Three.- To force Gnuplot to create an output file (eps or png) which
holds the whole picture! (currently, my eps is cutting the right boundary).
I also include the macro file I use.
Thank you very much in advance!

Hi all. I was wondering if there was a way to control axis limits adjustment. My problem is that I want to use automatic adjustment, since I don't know what the limits will be, but gnuplot seems to not like to do it smoothly. At least with default settings (meaning no settings) it jumps from, let's say in my example, 16 to 18 in the upper x-axis limit whereas the maximum x value overpassed 16 by just 0.1 or so. This creates a gap between the plot area and the right edge of the graph box, which just doesn't look cool. Thanks. Hi all. Is there a way to do string concatenation in gnuplot? I've got a file (file.name) whose name is then used to generate other filenames like file.name.1, file.name.2, etc. I would be nice if I could just do something like: filename1 = filename + '.1' (instead of "+" something else could be used) Of course I could pass all filenames as input parameters, but the # of parameters is just 10 and there are so many other options to set:) Thanks. Hi. If I run a gnuplot script and pass some arguments to it, then I refer to them as $0, $1 etc up to 10, right? But if I want to use functions, then when plotting I refer to column numbers in a similar way. For ex. sin_phi(x,y) = y/sqrt(x**2 + y**2) cos_phi(x,y) = x/sqrt(x**2 + y**2) vx(v2,v3,x,y) = - v2 * cos_phi(x,y) - v3*sin_phi(x,y) vy(v2,v3,x,y) = - v2 * sin_phi(x,y) - v3*cos_phi(x,y) v(v2,v3) = sqrt(v2**2 + v3**2) coef = 1e-2 plot file_eqa every 2:2 u 9:10:(vx($5,$6,$9,$10)*coef):(vy($5,$6,$9,$10)*coef) with vectors head title "" So now the question is: How do I do the same thing with functions when I use gnuplot in batch mode? Because it seems to get confused with those. Thanks. Well, a line usually doesn't do a very good job of filling an area (special plane-filling curves like the Hilbert and Peano fractals excluded). But if you really have to, a spiral should work. You won't get automatic tics, though: factor = 100 # adjust this sp_x(t) = t*cos(t/factor) sp_y(t) = t*sin(t/factor) plot 'file' u (sp_x($1)):(sp_y($1)) > I think the problem I face with gnuplot is the range of the numbers, > right? Can gnuplot handle numbers that big? Only if your computer's C "double" type does. Which almost certainly it won't. So you'll have to preprocess them to fit them into a less insane dynamic range. Just divide them all by 1e1000 or so, or logarithmize them. |

Hi all, I'm currently trying to find out a way to do a simple plot which it turned out not to be so simple. I want a 1d-plot, i.e., to plot some points along a given line. The problem comes with the points. The points range from 0 to 10^1000 and there are hundreds of points so I probably would need to have a big image, filling an A4 page. Is there any way to do this with gnuplot? If not, is there any other software able to do this? I think the problem I face with gnuplot is the range of the numbers, right? Can gnuplot handle numbers that big? Cheers, -- Paulo Jorge Matos - pocm at sat inesc-id pt Web: http://sat.inesc-id.pt/~pocm Computer and Software Engineering INESC-ID - SAT Group |

If I understand you correctly, you want all data with a line, and every some number (for ex. 4) of data points with a different mark - then use: plot 'file' u 1:2 with lines, 'file' every 4 u 1:2 with points (or dots or whatever) Hope it helps. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/ploting-lines-points-t1303610.html#a3477378 Sent from the Gnuplot - User forum at Nabble.com. |

Thanks. >You'll probably have to write the contours to a "table" file first. >Setting pm3d to 'explicit', and "unset surface" may also help. If I do so, one of the most valuable advantages of gnuplot - speed - will be negated :-( I use a script to generate 3x3 multiplot images - about 400 images at a time. So extra file input-output will likely slow it down. > set contour base >That's not very likely a good idea. "set contour surface" is more >likely to remain visible despite pm3d output being on the base, too. Didn't make any difference. I guess for now I'll just do without contours. But any help is still appreciated if there IS a way to do what I want. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/pm3d-map-%2B-contour-lines-t1301527.html#a3477114 Sent from the Gnuplot - User forum at Nabble.com. |

Hi, I want to plot all the data in a "line", however, I also want to put some "point marks" (such as rectangle, asterisk etc) for some of the points. Can anyone help me on this? Basically, I have a large set of data, if I use linespoints for ploting, I cannot differeniate the linespoints for different data set (because there are so many points). On the other hand, if I use the every command, some data value will be ignored. Many thanks, -- Zhenhai Duan |

"set contour surface" is more likely to remain visible despite pm3d output being on the base, too. |
