Hei *, Is there anyway to have a real 3 dimensional grid? I use this commands, gnuplot> set grid xtics ytics ztics gnuplot> set ztics 0.5 gnuplot> set pm3d gnuplot> splot sin(x)*cos(y) which draws a grid in a plane(2d) xy,xz and also yz. It looks like it draws grid around boxes I want to have it in xyz -would look like small cubes cutting the whole function surface. Any Hints? Thanx, Umut |

You'll need parametric mode for that: set parametric plot t, sin(t) title "independent variable is x", \ sin(t), t title "independent variable is y" |

Hei *, is it possible to switch x & y axis in a 2 d plot? i want to plot a simple function: 1-exp(k*x), which puts automagically x values to horizontal and y = f(x) to vertical axis and plots. But i want to have x as vertical axis and y as horizontal. Any hints there? Cheers, Umut |

The two most probable reasons for that are: 1) Microsoft's boneheaded idea of activating their "hide filename extension for known file types" by default, which means that people using only Explorer have no idea what the actual names of their files are. 2) lack of experience with command-line oriented programs. gnuplot, like most such applications, follows the concept of a current working directory. If you want to refer to your file as just "testdata.dat", you have to run gnuplot with the directory this file is in as the current directory (see also "help loadpath"). "help cd" tells you how to do that. |

For reference, I think you should be looking at "save", not "show". As far as "show palette" output is concerned, you can always copy-paste from the console into a file, too. |

Dear gnuplot users,
I would like to plot a 2D histogram as a map.
Until now, I have used the "pm3d map" plotting style to visualize my 2D histograms. But this is an interpolation not a real histogram, and this fact becomes especialy inconvenient when
(i) the binsize must be large (eg. staying for originally discrete data), or
(ii) the histogram is sparse (a lot of counts in one region and nearly nothing in others). For sparse 2D histograms it seams inpossible to put zeros invisible without having lost individual counts in sparse regions.
I have recently found the new plotting style "image" in the documentation, and it seemed - for the first look - to be exactly what I needed. But I realized that I cannot adjust the third (Z or color) axis's range. The only way to influence the color scale is to "set logscale zcb".
Then, I turned to the style "rgbimage". I have processed the histogram file to contain the desired colors. But now, there is no trace of the colorbox on the right of the plot as it was with the "image" style.
My question is:
Is there any way to plot 2D histograms (as maps)
(i) without any manipulation (interpolation),
(ii) with freely adjustable third (Z or color) axis,
(iii) with a colorbox representing the counts' values in a color-scale
at the same time?
I would be very grateful if You could help me.
Sincerely Yours,
Rudolf Izsak

Hi, I don't know if it can be done in gnuplot. You could try by using sort: suppose your file has 2 columns separated by spaces: x-value y-value In that case, $ sort -t' ' -k2,2n yourfile.dat | head -1 this would give you the line corresponding to your peak. Take a look at 'man sort' for further information. If I get you right, the solution to your problem is the command save, see "help save" for more details. The resulting files may be re"load"ed, so that your disired set of options can be restored in a later run of gnuplot. Regards Lars |

Hello,
=20
I am trying to create an animated gif file with gnuplot on windows. When
I do 'set term gif animate', the following message comes:
=20
Terminal type set to 'gif'
warning: gif animation options ignored (not compiled into this
binary)
Options are 'nocrop medium ' =20
=20
So I have tried to put the 'bgd.dll' file in my 'C:\WINNT\system32'
folder but It still does not work.

Thanks a lot,

JPEG is not a listed terminal type on the Windows version of GNUPlot (V4.2). Is there something else I need to install for this to work or is it just not supported for the Windows Version. I see that PNG and GIF are supported and are using libgd, so I am not sure why JPEG would not also be listed. Steve |
