The two most probable reasons for that are: 1) Microsoft's boneheaded idea of activating their "hide filename extension for known file types" by default, which means that people using only Explorer have no idea what the actual names of their files are. 2) lack of experience with command-line oriented programs. gnuplot, like most such applications, follows the concept of a current working directory. If you want to refer to your file as just "testdata.dat", you have to run gnuplot with the directory this file is in as the current directory (see also "help loadpath"). "help cd" tells you how to do that. |
