Hello I have an instruction set for graph generation like this: set title "" 0, 0, 0 font "arial, 12" show title set xlabel "Accelera" font "arial, 10" set ylabel "Accelera" font "arial, 10" set zlabel "null" offset 4 font "arial, 10" set xrange [6:50] set yrange [40:90] set zrange [1:36] set dgrid3d 30, 30, 3 set view 60, 30, 1, 1 set grid x y z set border set key splot "data.txt" using 2:3:4 with lines notitle, "data.txt" using 2:3:4:1 with labels notitle set contour surface set output "graph.png" set term png size 1024, 768 replot set terminal win reset This uses data.txt as follows: + 6.6 59 1.3 + 6.6 59 1.3 + 6.6 59 1.3 + 7.3 65 4.2 + 7.3 65 3.7 + 7.3 65 4.4 + 50 45 35.6 + 50 45 32.4 + 50 45 31 + 10 90 15.5 + 10 90 15.8 + 10 90 16.8 But my concern is the splot action: when the graph is generated, plot points are shown off the grid or pm3d (if used) surface created and I don't know why. Is it to do with the computation of the lines within splot? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Many thanks Martin O'Shea. |

ah! Indeed;
Many thanks for your prompt help in contriving this example; it immediately
revealed the real cause of my problems: using index out of range...
(sheepishly: ...which gnuplot had been trying to tell me all along!)

I have the following gnuplot script to generate a raster graph:

set cbtics nomirror ("0.6" 0.64, "0.7" 0.72, "0.8" 0.80, "0.9" 0.88, "1.0"
0.96)
plot "suitability.txt" matrix with image
pause -1
------------[ end suitability.plt ]---------------

The graph works fine when the terminal is set to X11, but when I try to
output to eps it seems to interpolate the data between the pixels resulting
in an unwanted smoothing effect. Does anyone know why it does this, and if
there is a way to stop it?
Cheers

You've over-contrived your example. The \' are not useful. Drop them,
and you should be getting somewhere:
dataFile = sprintf("< ps aux | tail -%d", 20)

Hi Folks,
I would like to do something like the following contrived example:
gnuplot> dataFile = sprintf("\'< ps aux | tail -%d\'", 20)
gnuplot> plot dataFile u 2
warning: Skipping unreadable file "'< ps aux | tail -20'"
No data in plot
as the error copied above indicates, I'm not having much joy!
Any suggestions?

Dear gnuplot users
I saw in new gnuplot version 4.2 that is possible to open and see images
using commands like in the following example (in help binary example):
plot '<file_name>' binary array=512x1024:1024x512 format='%uchar' \
dx=2:1 dy=1:2 origin=(0,0):(1024,1024) flipy u 1:2:3 w rgbimage
It is possible to open image files in PPM or PGM format, instead of rgbimage?
Thanks

jim_spurlin wrote: > i do not seem to be able to get x2tic etc on splot. > i am using gnuplot 4.3 > Is this feature suppose to work? Hi! Since gnuplot tries to place the axes of a surface-plot in a way, that they can be best seen from the viewers position, secondary axes are not supported. In most plots they would be hidden by the surface of the function or interfere very much with its grid representation. In short words: x2tics are only available for 2D-Plots. Regards Lars |

I don't think so. Contouring is a global option that applies to all datasets in the plot. It shouldn't really be outputting contour labels for the 'with labels' plot, I think. IMHO that's a bug. |

Dear gnuplot users
I saw in new gnuplot version 4.2 that is possible to open and see images
using commands like in the following example (in help binary example):
plot '<file_name>' binary array=512x1024:1024x512 format='%uchar' \
dx=2:1 dy=1:2 origin=(0,0):(1024,1024) flipy u 1:2:3 w rgbimage
It is possible to open image files in PPM or PGM format, instead of rgbimage?
Thanks

Hello
I have a graph being generated which using the following instructions to
overlay the plot points on a grid with contours:
set title "778-29-07-2007" 0, 0, 0 font "arial, 12"
show title
set xrange [50:90]
set yrange [30:50]
set zrange [0:1]
set xlabel "P1" font "arial, 10"
set ylabel "P2" font "arial, 10"
set zlabel "P3" offset 4 font "arial, 10"
set dgrid3d 30, 30, 4
set view 60, 30, 1, 1
set key
show key
set contour surface
set grid x y z
set border 127+256+512
splot "data.txt" using 2:3:4 with lines, "data.txt" using 2:3:4:1 with labels
set output "data.png"
set term png size 1024, 768
replot
set terminal win
reset
However, when it is displayed, the key tends to appear over the right of the
graph causing reading difficulties. Is there any way to prevent this at all?
And also, can the key not show the name of the file the data is coming from
because if the path is long, it overwrites the graph?
Ideally, I would like to set the key to say:
using 2:3:4 grid line colour
0.55 contour line colour
0.44 contour line colour
etc.
Thanks
Martin O'Shea.
