[Gnuplot-info] CGM resizing

Hi,

I'm using gnuplot 4.2 (or also 4.3) and export plots to CGM format.
Usually I have plots with legends below the plot. The legends may become large
thus the portion of the canvas reserved for the graphic is getting small.

Now I need an option to resize the canvas as in other formats such that the
portion used for the graphics stays more or less the same.

set size has not the desired effect and set term cgm size is not possible.

in cgm format I only can change the width which is only used to change the
fontsize, I guess.

What could I do? I need CGM due to other applications.

you are using the 'plot' program (see 'man plot'), which has
nothing to do with 'gnuplot'!

execute the above plot command inside gnuplot (at
the gnuplot prompt).

I am trying to plot a text file with the plot command but it's not working. 
I have a text file that looks exactly like this:

I'm trying to plot it with this command:

$ plot 'test.txt' using 1:2 with lines, 'test.txt' using 3:4 with lines,
'test.txt' using 5:6 with lines

And I get this message:

#PLOT 1
plot: unrecognized command `0xa' encountered in input
plot: could not parse input file `test.txt'

Am I doing anything wrong, or is plot just broken?

When I start gnuplot, it gives me this version info:

gnuplot> set terminal postscript landscape color
gnuplot> set out 'test2.ps'
gnuplot> test
gnuplot> set out

Then goto the folder ...\gs\gs8.61\bin and drop test2.ps
to gswin32.exe
Perhaps you can see the ps test view.
If it went well, the possibility:

1. An accident happend in creating ps file from your gnuplot script 
2. There is some problem in your gnuplot script 

Anyway please check the first whether your ps file is valid or not at ps2pdf.

It comes from the fact that you somehow implanted a PostScript prologue 
into that file that doesn't come from gnuplot, but (according to the 
comments in there) from Tk's canvas object.

This might be the culprit.  'loadpath' affects where gnuplot goes 
looking for Postscript prologues.  I would suggest you re-think this 
setting.

Thanks for replying. I see what you are suggesting here. That is basically
what I am doing now. I was just looking for a solution that wouldn't require
temporary files. Hans-Bernhard reply nailed it: use wgnuplot_pipes.

That works. Thanks! Here's a small sample of what I was trying to do and
what I can now do. First I set some variables in the environment:

C:\> set GP_FILENAME=foo.png
C:\> set GP_TITLE=A test plot

and run wgnuplot_pipes with the following contents in a static file:

OUTFILE = "`echo %GP_FILENAME%`"
TITLE = "`echo %GP_TITLE%`"
set title TITLE
set term png
set out OUTFILE
plot x

...and, bingo. It creates foo.png with the title I set. Thanks again!

I cannot understand it.

Do you have a script file that have parameters and do you want to control the parameter from external
environmnts?

If so my idea to use combination of batch file and script file.

version 4.2.0 has a problem with
set decimalsign locale "de_DE@euro"
when producing postscript: it writes some (not all)
float values in the postscript code with ',' instead of '.'
which confuses the postscript interpreter.

version 4.3 cvs doesn't have this problem anymore.
(version 4.2.3 has it)

is there nobody who can help me with my problem?

I attach two files to this e-mail, which are output from the script from
my last e-mail. They are supposed to show the same graph, just that the
second one (works_only_in_x11.ps") doesn't show anything. The x11 replot
(_after_ "unset out") shows the correct graph.

Does the script from my last e-mail work with anyone elses version of
gnuplot with correct output? (mine is Version 4.2 patchlevel 0
last modified March 2007 System: Linux 2.6.22-14-generic from ubuntu
repositories)

What terminal did you use to make a graph?

That is the most important point about your inquiry.
If you clarify this, nobody can reply to your question.

At the inquiry, please make clear the following
1.Platform
2.gnuplot version
3.terminal
4.detailed comand sequence that you used for plot making.


I always use gnuplot to make graph for the scitefic Journal.
Many people use gnuplot for similar purposes.
Otherwise this software have not become so popular.

Please think about the above facts and post a your question with a cool head.
