When I leave out 'graph' in the 'at graph' part of the command I can position the point better using the coordinates in the plot itself (rather than window based coordinates?). This also seems to be working just fine for 3D plots via splot as all I seem to do is add a 3rd coordinate to the position. thank again for the great help, Esmail |

Hello all, (just discovered this group) I am plotting some graphs and surfaces using gnuplot using plot and spot. These are functions that I am optimizing. So far so good. What I would like to do, but don't know how, is to place some sort of a marker or circle on the graph or the surface to indicate the maximum location found. Ie I would draw the graph or surface first, and then mark/superimpose a marker to show the maximum spot. Is there a way to do this? I've been using gnuplot itself for a while, but I have no idea how to do this. Thanks, Esmail ps: I am mainly using gnuplot version 4.2 patchlevel 4 under Linux. |

My first guess was 'set multiplot layout 1,2' but the result is in the attached jpg. Seeing non-integer tics which the data is only integers in misleading and confounds viewers. What I was doing works great when the values are small but seems to go into a very long loop when the values are very large. I will now make my process a bit more elaborate and compute a proper tic interval. Unless there is some other, more direct, way to specify that automatic tic marks should only be integers? |

Integers have basically no relevance to gnuplot datafile reading. gnuplot reads floating-point numbers, not integers, from data files. You'll have to show a much more specific example to allow this issue to be addressed in any meaningful way. |

Hi all, I've been using the cvs-version lately since there are some features which are neccessary for data representation and while doing so I found some issues which I like to articulate here so that there's a chance they will be introduced (or that someone will tell me what I'm doing wrong): This mainly concerns the new 'object' styles 'ellipse' and 'circle': For some plots we need circular guides in a otherwise cartesian plot. They should be centered at the x-axis and simply draw an arc (0:180) and, of course, should be circular with respect to the plot coordinate system. After some confusion I can in some sense understand why a 'circle' will be a circle on the print rather than on the plot however, I would have found it more intuitive to have a switch to change this behavior. Nevertheless, the 'ellipse' - of which I thought would be the solution - seems to be an entierly different animal. It lacks an 'arc' specifier as well as I haven't been able to display the actual ellipse with a line rather than the area. So I would like to emphasize that with the given direction the 'circle' object is taking the, 'ellipse' should at least have the possibility of arcing and border display. However, maybe my point is convincing to decide via an option whether the 'circle' acts as a circle with respect to the print or with respect to the coordinate system of the plot. Hey all, I encountered a wierd problem. What I'm trying to do (and what partly works) is a 3d plot with matrix data like $ splot path matrix u 1:2:($3*(Interf($1, $2, 5, 7.0, 14.5))) w pm3d notitle and my pm3d setting is $ set pm3d interpolate 0,4 up to here everything is fine! However, if I try to assign the cbaxis like $ splot path matrix u 1:2:($3*(Interf($1, $2, 5, 7.0, 14.5))):(Interf($1, $2, 5, 7.0, 14.5) w pm3d notitle or any other variable while interpolating, the only thing gnuplot seems to do is scaling of the cbrange while still plotting the z-value on the cbaxis... If I don't interpolate everything works fine! I would like to have a plot within a plot. I have a plot where I would like to zoom in on one corner to show the detail, while still keeping the rest of the plot. In looking around it seems like I might be able to do this with multiplot, but that seems to be used for putting plots side by side which is not what I want. Is multiplot the way to go or should I be looking at something else? Is there a demo describing ho to do this? Thanks, Jeremy |
