[Gnuplot-info] missing grid points

Hi,

My data are missing some grid points, but pm3d handles them
nicely when plotting a 3D colored surface, including the mesh.
 The missing data cause some triangles on the edge of the
surface, which is nice.  Now, I would like to draw the mesh
only without the filled color using "with lines".  This can
only be done when the data are complete.  Any missing grid
point will make the mesh into a set of lines.  How do I solve
this problem?  Here is the example:

labels are plotted each time a 'plot' command is executed, so
you if need one label per plot, define this (and only this) label
just before calling 'plot'. in your case it would be the best to
work with only one label, redefining it for each plot. and the
positioning should be done in axis-range-independent coordinates:

set multiplot
set size 0.3,0.3
#
set origin 0.1,0.1
set label 1 "A" at graph -0.2,-0.2
plot sin(x)

set origin 0.5,0.1

Is there a way to put an expression in the title of a plot command?
gnuplot> plot a.dat .... title column(1)

The above is allowed, it seems that the following is not:
gnuplot> plot a.dat .... title ('a-'. column(1))

Hi users,
I am running gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 5 on darwin 8.11.1, having a lot of
trouble adding labels to a 4-panel graph using multiplot. I have read the
manual, searched extensively online, still can't solve my problem. I would
like to: 

i) add labels A, B, C and D to the lower left corners of the four graphs in
my multiplot, in line with the y label
ii) annotate certain graphs with a message, like R^2 = 0.4 in the body of
the plots 

While my plots print out fine, I am experiencing behavior that i don't
understand with the labels. I can get labels to appear on all of the plots,
but I also get a "duplicate" label A that creeps in from the bottom of the
4x4 plot area, as I adjust the position of the desired "A" to the top left
graph. I have tried a variety of changes in the code to see where this comes

to tell 'fprintf()' that you want a '%' in the output double it:

I need to display the value of a fitted parameter on the graph itself.

I was able to do this *within gnuplot* using:

set label 'm = %3.5f',m at 1600, 100  

However, when I try to do the same thing *from within a C++ program*, I can
never get the correct value displayed.
The value always differs. I`m using: 

fprintf(gnuplot, "set label 'm = %3.5f', m at 1600, 100\n"); 

in the C++ program. I have worked it out that the problem lies with the
format specifier %3.5f and
I have exhausted ALL possibilities possible but nothing I do displays the
correct value.

Can someone please help me out?

Sorry I have not see your java code in detail.

Obviously it is natural that wgnuplot went wrong.

The argument usually is to be a script file name but not commands.

If you execute gnuplot commands but not script, you have to use "-e" option for example

wgnuplot -e "plot sin(x);pause -1"

Please see the execute "help command line options" on the wgnuplot prompt.
You can see the help of Batch/Interactive Operation

Before you use gnuplot for cygwin for x11, you have to start the X server software. 

You can use the Cygwin-X.
I am using the public domain version of the Xming.

Please search by Google what Cygwin-X and Xming are.

I done have an X11 terminal and dont know what it means ?
All I have is cygwin in Windows XP.


If we leave the Java part my problem can be re-stated as:

I want to run gnuplot from cygwin's prompt or command line in Windows XP.
How can this be achieved ?

[Gnuplot-info] Representing large 2D matrix as colormapped pm3d map

Hello--

I would like to create a dataset which is represented in an ASCII file 
as a large 2D matrix.  The matrix has hundreds of columns and thousands 
of rows.  I expect that the file will take up at least a few gigabytes 
of space.

Is there a way to represent this matrix as a pm3d map without having to 
let gnuplot load all of the data?  How would I instruct gnuplot to 
create a pm3d map (similar to a 2D image with colorbar) which will be 
indicative of trends in the data, but still smaller in size than the 
original dataset?

I am running gnuplot version 4.2 patchlevel 5 on OS X 10.4.11. I am
wondering how to update to version 4.4. I have looked around online, and
gather that cleanly uninstalling the original version involves knowing
something about how it was originally installed (for example this
discussion, at:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.graphics.apps.gnuplot/browse_thread/thread/c0b5d1412efaa109). 

Unfortunately I did not do the original installation and have no idea how
this was done.  Could anyone give me some advice on this?

The 2.8 series (stable version) of wxWidgets has been updated to 2.8.11.
According to the web site (http://www.wxwidgets.org/),  it contains a number of bug fixes, and
upgrading is recommended for all wxWidgets users.

I have used to build the cvs version of gnuplot for windows.  The speed of the seemed to be improved.
(For the PC without high performance, the improvement of speed seem to large. )

I'm actually using 'refresh' instead of 'replot' since 'replot' does not
work with data sent over the pipe.  The main issue here is that I'm trying
to avoid disk access as I'm a plotting several continuous streams of data
from a custom-built microscope.  I guess I'll just have to buckle down and
hold onto the plot commands in my application and then resend them if the
user changes the plot settings between updates.

For a project, I'm using polar coordinates, and I want to try to make a

set grid polar
set xtics 1
set polar
plot [0:90] 4
replot [180:270] 5

I get this error:
"Cannot set range with replot"

Ideally, this program would allow me to have 2 arcs drawn.
I can change the "replot" to "plot", and it'll work, but I lose the first
data plot.

I'm guessing this is a constraint on the way the system is set up.

I did some google searching for awhile, and I found out that someone tried
to do something similar, and had a workaround that worked for cartesian
coordinates:

I was wondering if such a solution should also work for polar coordinates?
Or, perhaps there is a way to remove this constraint from gnuplot?

[Gnuplot-info] Reading xtics positions from a file.

Say I have a file like this:

data.txt:
x y Name
1 2 Dave
3 5 Mary
4 1 Ann
7 3 Barry

I am trying to plot an x-y scatter plot with xtic names aligned to the
x positions. For the above file the script would be:

set xtics rotate
set xtics ("Dave1" 1, "Mary" 3, "Ann" 4, "Barry" 7)
plot "data.txt"

But my file is huge and auto-generated. So is there any way to read in
the xtics name & position from the file, using gnuplot?
Something like:    set xtics ("{data.txt(3)}" {data.txt(1)}, )
Or would it just be easier to do it using PERL or some other scripting language?

I am glad to hear your success.
I also appreciate your detailed reports.

At least for the cvs version (currently it is gnuplot 4.5), I will keep current distribution style.
The cvs version is updated very frequently so that I would like to save my time for packaging.  In
addition, the cvs version is maily for the power users but not for elemetary users.

For the official version, it is better to disscuss the distribution style in the gnuplot-beta ML.

I admit that NSIS installer is useful for elementary users but I myself do not want to work on it.
(The GnuWin32 sofware has installer package and zip package. I have selected zip package because it
does not use registry and very useful to install into the usb drive.)

I hope that some windows power users will to make efforts to create the NSIS packages.
