hi Jon,
the question is how your data are organised. i guess transpose means:

X X X X X -> X
	     X
	     X
	     X
	     X

then you can simply do:  tr " " "\n" <in >out

I want to draw a large number of straight lines on a chart. I plan to use arrows. One option is to use code such as this:

set arrow 7 from -500, -160, 0 to 500, -160, 0 nohead back nofilled linetype 1 linecolor rgb "dark-violet"  linewidth 2.000

It might be more elegant, if possible, to provide a data file listing the start and end points for all the arrows.  I see a sample data file, "arrowstyle.dat", at:

... but it only lists 3 data points for each arrow. I need to list an xy start and xy end for each arrow - four data points. 

Is it possible to put this sort of data into a gnuplot data file, and, if so, what is the correct way to reference it via gnuplot commands?

Thanks for your input, the most relevant line could be

plot 'demo.edf' binary array=64x32 dx=5 dy=10 scan=yx skip=1024
format="%*float%float" using 1 with image

But this command seems weird to me.

I never met with scan= keyword in plot, it could be that these
keywords are accompanying binary. I don't know whether these options
carry over to text file as well.

I have actually figured it out on my own already and just wanted to let you
know, how the solution looks like.
As it turns out, a blank line has to be introduced for each new theta:

phi_1 theta_1 r val
...
phi_n theta_1 r val
<blank>
phi_1 theta_2 r val
...
phi_n theta_1 r val

I am trying to plot my data on the surface of a sphere with the data values
being color coded. For that I have tried around a lot with pm3d but most of
the time, I got ' Warning: Single isoline (scan) is not enough for a pm3d
plot.' errors.

Now I am working with this example: http://www.gnuplotting.org/heat-maps/

that I turned into my own script, that you can find at
http://www.plotshare.com/index.ws/plot/986805525 .

The data is stored as

phi theta r value

with r=1 constant.  I want to have a nice smooth surface like I would get
in the 2D case using splot ...image!

On plotshare, despite 'w pm3d' the points are just very small pixels and on
my machine in wxt terminal, I do not see any of the data at all.

If you have done something like that before, it would be great if you could
help me out.

everything enclosed in backquotes is interpreted as a command
and executed outside of gnuplot - as long as the operating
system supports this (your windows obviously doesn't).

but, i don't think you want to execute 'S1' to get a plot title.
so enclose 'S1' in single or double quotes but not in backquotes.

[Gnuplot-info] gradient color fulfiling between curves

Hi folks,

I understood how to fulfill the space between two curves with one color, or fulfill the space between curves with 2 different colors according to whether one curve is above/below the other. However, I could not find out how to fulfill the space between two curves with a gradient color representing another variable. I've attached a sample of what I have been trying to do. Does anybody have any suggestion?

Hello

The wxt terminal in not included cygwin binary but to the native windows binary.

The advantage of wxt terminal, for example, transparency，anti-aliasing of the line plot,  language support through the fontconfig, etcs.

Now the wxt terminal is default terminal for many platforms.
Unfortunately the cygwin does not have the Wxwidgets so that cygwin binary lacks it.

That's because there is not really all that much to figure out --- 
gnuplot won't do that.  You'll have to merge each y file with the x 
file, at least on-the-fly, to make it usable for gnuplot.  Unix-style 
text utilities can make that very easy.  See 'help data special' to 
understand what this does:

	plot '< paste file1 file2'

I have not yet figured out how to create a single line plot where the x
axis values are in one file but each of the Y vectors are in their own
separate file.

Hmm,. For my environments gnuplot for cygwin build by mself works.
As a reference, please give me the information of version of the OS  and the CPU.

You can do this with multiplot. Take a look at "help multiplot" and the
multiplot demos at http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo_4.2/layout.html.

Just remember to "unset multiplot" to get out of multiplot mode when
you're done.
