#3257 "Start Game" doesn't start game (usually)

I go to create a new game, select the various bits of configuration for the game, and click "start game". 9 times out of 10, FreeCol then sits there indefinitely (I've tried leaving it as long as 10 minutes) with the nation selection dialog still open, and nothing happens. Sometimes it has a little overlay saying it's launching the game, sometimes not. (If there's no overlay, clicking "start game" again does nothing, though, so I think that may just be hidden behind the dialog.)

Once out of 10 tries, the new game does, load -- usually takes only about 5-10 sec.

I can't come up with any particular pattern in what's different when it does and doesn't load successfully.

    I can not reproduce this. Please give us the information we need to work on this (as shown under "How to report a bug and help us improve FreeCol" at the top of the bug report page). In this case, attaching the log file is really likely to help. Also, just saying "9 times out of 10" is frustratingly vague. Please, just tell us one specific set of instructions that causes the problem for you.

    Are you you using a certain map? Mazim's maps give me that issue.

    Yeah, it's a custom map. Is there some specific set of map changes that the editor allows but makes launching work only with certain seeds?

    I can't reproduce this with utter consistency, but I do know that several times yesterday (while iterating on the map) I launched Freecol over and over and over and over just to get it to succeed in starting a game once. Once out of 10 actually is my best estimate of the frequency of success. Apologies, I wasn't counting.

    I'll be happy to provide logs. Can you please lmk where to look for them on MacOS? I googled for info on log paths for the game to no avail.

    I'm not able to reproduce this problem either.

    What's the name of the map you are trying to play? Knowing a specific map with this problem would be helpful.

    Have you selected all the "Import"-checkboxes -- or just the "Import terrain"?

    It's an entirely custom map I created to make the game a little more tractable for a 6-y/o. Here's a copy in case it helps.

    One thing we did notice today is that there are a few squares on the map that remain displayed as undiscovered even with a scout on a neighboring square, and which the scout can't enter even though they're land. (And then one of them seemingly randomly became visible / enter-able on a subsequent term, but the others never did.)

      Still unable to reproduce any failure to start, even when using the above map. Please: Log File! You are making things harder than they need to be for all of us, yourself included.

    OK, I finally figured out where the log file is. I ended up making another map that for whatever reason isn't having this trouble launching, though, so the logs for the period when this was happening have cycled out.

    And for whatever reason it's not happening today when I try again with the old map! So I guess you can close this.
