Hello,

Steinberg has long suspended support for VST2 plugins and now everything is in VST3 format. I miss out on almost all the plugins.

Will it be possible to add support for VST3 format ?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Kind regards

    Would be nice indeed.
Btw. I was under the impression that only VST3 plugins are supported.

Hello Peter, thank you for the response.

VST2 is now the relic of the past. I requested some dev's to provide the VST2 version of their plugins and they responded saying that steinberg has pulled the SDK for compiling the VST2 plugins so there's nothing they can do.

Right now using Analog Obsession plugins, had to dig deep into the interwebs to able to find the old VST2 versions of their plugins as everything newer is in VST3 format. Miss out on the updates and all the improvements and enhancement.

I wish the EqAPO dev is reading this, I desire nothing more from this software than to support for VST3 plugins. I can't believe dev is not aware of this situation.

Perhaps a VST2 wrapper can load VST3 plugins? I guess not.

I've tried to look for clues in the source code of Equalizer APO to discover which VST version is actually being supported. I couldn't find any clues.

I see that VST2 is ancient (1999). No wonder Steinberg has pulled the SDK 25 years later.

Found this discussion about VST 3 support. Juha suggests a wrapper.

Thank you Peter for taking time and investing the issue. I see Juha suggests Metaplugin, but the problem is it's not free. Moreover routing audio through more plugins will introduce latency that I'm trying to avoid.

It would be 100 times better if the APO could support the newer format natively. Does developer of APO even read these discussion ? I see a recent update so maybe they are still around. Hope springs eternal.

Many thanks for the support. Highly appreciated.

The developer does occasionally read posts. And he does some work on Equalizer APO. But I don't expect any major changes soon although I'm sure he has plans. In the meanwhile I'm doing the most support where Juha and Etienne chip in.

I get it that low latency is in your case important. Using a VST host indeed adds more latency. Unfortunately I don't know about any low latency cheap or free VST hosts.

            And you're welcome.

Hi Peter, tested Metaplugin but it crashes the editor. I read other posts on the interwebs and many people are reporting that it crashes their DAW.

I'll leave the request for the developer here and hope they see it and implement it. I'll keep an eye out for the newer versions of APO.

              Many thanks for the support.

So Metaplugin isn't that good (yet). That's unfortunate.

                Good luck!

VST3 Support would be highly requested indeed. And with VST2 support ceased in October 2018 and the VST3 SDK published in 2020 (on Github) it's even reasonable, to consider, especially, since the VST2 compatibility of the APO isn't that good either and fixing that would make little sense.

Waves have a new plugin called Studio Verse and it's free to use. It's a little tricky to install but there are videos on how to so just google it. It's like a effects rack in which you can load a bunch of plugins and acts like a wrapper. Tested it and I can load it in Equalizer APO as it has a VST2 version which allows you to load vst3 plugins however EQ APO seems to not like it. Guess similar issue as with Metaplugin or it might be just on my system. It's a possible solution, will play around with it some more or maybe someone can figure out how to get it working

That's a very good solution 😃 Thanks André for providing us with this.

Where do you find the VST2 version of StudioVerse? I can only find the VST3 version

Today i was able to create an impulse response for SIR3 Convolution Reverb with my eq correction curve from a hearing loss compensation plugin using the Voxengo Deconvolver. SIR3s vst2 version crashes from time to time, but once set up it seems to work just fine. at least one can use additional customized eq and reverbs with it.
But vst3? Definetely!! VST2 is so freaking outdated and i have a huge plugin library of VST3s laying around to be played with.
