Hi

I was using this application fine to boost my 100% Windows volume by an extra 10dB.

This has all of a sudden stopped working and when I try to open Configuration Editor or Configurator, the computer appears to do something (get the loading symbol next to mouse cursor) but then it stops and nothing opens.

Checking the Windows Event Viewer, I can see that the Equalizer APO files are crashing.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling (rebooting after each step) but to no avail. I haven't made any major system changes (aside from flashing my BIOS with the most up-to-date driver).

Can you help?

Did you by any change detached the analysis panel? That's a know bug causing the Configuration Editor to crash. This is fixed by deleting the "WindowState" property from Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EqualizerAPO\Configuration Editor in the Registry Editor. Are you familiar with this editor of Windows?

    Hi

Very strangely, I tried reinstalling to try this and the problem seems to have disappeared.  It installed straight away and came up with the configurator to select the audio sources.

I was then able to load up the Configuration Editor and set what I wanted.

I'll reopen the ticket if the issue comes back.

    Thanks for your help,
    Liam

Unfortunately the tickets aren't addressed by the developer. Perhaps it's better to delete this one?

If you click on it ticket to edit it, isn't there a bin icon at the top right?

I can't edit the original ticket and I can't see any bin icons I'm afraid.

That's unfortunate. Probably the developer only has access, not the ticket creator. A bit weird.

The issue has raised it's ugly head again.

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times but to no avail, the application keeps crashing according to Event Viewer.

"WindowState" is not present in the registry editor, in fact under "Configuration Editor" there is nothing apart from (Default).

Could there be nothing in the registry editor because since reinstalling, the Configurator has failed to load properly?

Interesting... so I manually edited and saved the config.txt file to +10dB and my sound is instantly affected. I put it to -10dB and save it and again, instantly affected.

It's almost as if the software is working but crashing at the same time? I don't understand it.

The Configuration Editor as all Equalizer APO interfaces like Peace or HeSuVi only writes to config.txt (or an included file), nothing more. Thus Equalizer APO is still working on your computer. The Configuration Editor is broken on your computer as all registry keys are gone, keys like geometry and instantmode.

    Peter Verbeek - 2021-03-14

Btw. I don't understand why these keys are suddenly removed. Without them the Configurator Editor might not start up or crash.

  • Liam H

    Liam H - 2021-03-15

And uninstalling/reinstalling didn't put the registry keys back :-(

To be honest, as long as I can edit the config.txt to change the dB and I know it's still working, I'm not that fussed because I only use it to boost my desktop audio.

    Thanks
    Liam

I wish I could explain this Configuration Editor issue. The only thing I can think of is an antivirus program interfering. Anyway, good luck and perhaps consider Peace as it's so much easier to play around with the desktop audio boosting.

I've found Peace and I shall definitely try it.

    Thanks for your time

    Hi Peter/Jonas

Peace has stopped doing it's job too now. I was using it to boost system volume by 10dB but it's now stopped working.

Any ideas? I've tried uninstalled and reinstalling both applications (with reboots in between) multiple times and it's just frustrating me now.

    Thanks for your help
    Liam

Did you have an update of Windows?

I'm concerned that some antivirus program is removing some registry keys as this happened before. But usually it's a case of Windows updating audio drivers and/or the audio system which disables Equalizer APO and/or makes the rerouting by the Configurator undone. It should be repaired by installing Equalizer APO again and then installing it on the target devices in the Configurator. The only thing that may happen is that the new audio drivers has changed their Audio Processing Objects (APO) way from LFX/GFX to SFX/EFX (or SFX/MFX, both the Windows 10 ways of doing APO). Perhaps trying the SFX?EFX may do the trick?

I don't believe there was a Windows Update but maybe there was, however, uninstalling/reinstalling after that should do a fresh install, no?

I have read about the SFX/EFX thing but i'm unable to launch the Configurator at all to even change anything. The window literally won't appear and looking at the Event Viewer shows there was an error related to the EXE file.

I think an uninstallation followed by an installation is the right procedure. But if some registry keys weren't removed at uninstallation then that might cause issues. After uninstalling Equalizer APO and a computer restart, the following keys should be gone in the registry:

    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO
    2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO
    3. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AudioEngine\AudioProcessingObjects{EACD2258-FCAC-4FF4-B36D-419E924A6D79}
    4. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AudioEngine\AudioProcessingObjects{EC1CC9CE-FAED-4822-828A-82A81A6F018F}
    5. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{EACD2258-FCAC-4FF4-B36D-419E924A6D79}
    6. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{EC1CC9CE-FAED-4822-828A-82A81A6F018F}
      and
      c:\program files\equalizerapo should be empty
c:\program files\equalizerapo\config should only contain Peace files but it has no consequences if it still contain some Equalizer APO files.

And of course the opposite is also true. After an installation the above should be present. Keys

    1. Data/settings of the Configuration Editor and VoiceMeeter client
    2. The Audio Processing Objects of the audio devices on which Equalizer APO is installed on.
    3. to 6. Keys of the Audio Processing Object of Equalizer APO (redirection to file EqualizerAPO.dll).

So perhaps worth checking if all is present after installation. Be sure that you have full rights to run the installation executable.

Okay, so I uninstalled and check everything was as it should be (ie, all gone).

I've now reinstalled EqualizerAPO and the following are missing:

    1 is not present
    2 is present
    3 is present
    4 is present
    5 is present
    6 is present

The folders are all present in the Program Files directory.

Interestingly, earlier I told you that I was able to adjust the Preamp value in the config.txt file (even though the UI for EqualizerAPO was crashing upon trying to open). This doesn't happen anymore and editing that config.txt file does not alter the preamp level.

So the only thing that appears to be wrong is Point 1 in the register is not there.

Can I add it myself somehow?

  • Peter Verbeek

    Peter Verbeek - 2021-03-27

You can add them but I'm afraid that some program will delete them again. But it's a good test what happens after a computer restart. Unfortunately I'm not sure how many keys and their values must be added but at least add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO and it's subkey "Configuration Editor" so this is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO\Configuration Editor
Then try to start the Configuration Editor. Perhaps it's able to add the values like "WindowState" itself.

On what kind of device (connection & brand) did you install Equalizer APO on in the Configurator? Are we talking about the default device (3.5 inch jack(s))?

    Hi all,
I have same problem, but it happened in all 2 my comps.
Problem resolved by installing 1.1.1 version.
Peter, may be it can help you to understand problem?

    Hi Arkady

I shall try this as I gave up trying to fix the issue. I have found the 1.1.1 download page.

    Thanks

This appears to have worked.... however, before my installation was working and then mysteriously stopped working. I wonder if it stopped working because I either upgraded or uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version? I can't remember... either way, happy it's working again.
