EqAPO: Time to go to Linux?

Hello! At the beginning of my "audiophile" journey, I used EAPO quite often.
However, I quickly came to the conclusion (and not only me) that Windows is an unsuccessful environment for building an audio system: a poor choice of specific tools, lack of flexibility in the OS itself.

The reason why I decided to write this post is that the author of my favorite room correction software Cavern EQ ported his creation to Linux, and the capabilities of this program are historically strongly tied to the use of EAPO, which still exists only for Win.

    When?!)

There are already a few possible apps on Linux like Easy Effects which uses PipeWire. Porting Equalizer APO to Linux is a huge task. I don't think the developer will do this so someone else should step in. Besides, Windows isn't dead. My popular Peace equalizer is going strong for 12 years now. 9 million downloads. 68 updates. Lots of features. Also, Room EQ Wizard is your go to for room correction software. This project also runs for ages.

You're mixing different tasks - filter generation and crossover/hosting for generated filters, I'm only interested in the latter.

Easy Effects is still inferior in terms of its capabilities - for example, it does not have independent channel equalization and crossover capabilities.

As Peace has this I assumed Easy Effects also has this. Anyway, what do you precisely mean by "crossover/hosting for generated filters"? I guess the "generated" part is the biquad filters produced by Cavern EQ (just like REW does)? But I'm confused about "crossover/hosting". Perhaps you could show your Equalizer APO config files.

I will not describe in detail, I will only say that the point is in the close integration of Cavern EQ and EAPO, due to the lack of EAPO for Linux, I lose some of the features. Well, I wondered why such good software has not been ported to Linux for a long time, which Linux much more flexible than Windows in terms of audio.

Indeed, Linux is more flexible. During the 14 years I'm working with Equalizer APO and supporting it, no one has stepped forward to pick up the source code and use it for Mac or Linux. We can only hope someone does.

I see that Cavern EQ claims it runs on Linux and Mac. Does it lack features on Linux which are present on Windows?

The reason is complex - for example, in the mode of a wireless audio receiver, Linux works much more stable than Windows. In addition, in the event of a problem, the tools for solving it are extremely flexible and always free.

So why don't you use Cavern EQ on Linux then?
