hello Alexander. There is no working mcast_forwarding support in neither kernel 2.4 nor = 2.6. If you would like to do that you have to use things like mrouted or = an IGMP Proxy. After starting mrouted the value of = /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth0/mc_forwarding will change to "1" (cheked = this on a Debian, since DL does not contain mrouted) It's not a hardware = problem. If you really need to use multicast-routing you could try to = customize your DL (see documentation on = http://www.devil-linux.org/documentation/1.2.x/ = <http://www.devil-linux.org/documentation/1.2.x/> for that). =20 Greetings, Bj=F6rn =20 =20 ________________________________ Von: dev...@li... im Auftrag von = Alexander Roos Gesendet: Do 13.07.2006 10:25 An: dev...@li... I installed a Devil-Linux router (V. 1.2.9) in our Network an need multicast-routing to run for our Novell-Clients. I googled the net for solutions and found a hint to add a static route for the multicast-net on the interface on which the novell-server resides. (http://www.informatikserver.at/index.php?option=3Dcom_content&task=3Dvie= w&id=3D10074&Itemid=3D99999999). But this did not work. On the router I can ping the multicast address 239.255.255.253 to reach the Novell Servers, on a client that resides in another ip-segment than the server I can't ping. Tcpdump shows nothing on the serverside interface. I'm wondering if the DL kernel supports multicast routing and if not how I can compile a new kernel with multicast routing support. Additionally I found that for the Service Location Protocol (SLP) which is used by the Novell client to look up the Novell servers "pim" is needed. There's something like pimd for linux, is it included in DL? If not, how can I include it? Or is obsolete, if the kernel supports multicast routing? Hi, I have 30+ DL boxes with "Intel Pro 1000/MT dual port server adapter"s and never had a problem so far. They're 64 bit PCI cards and some of them r= un=20 in 32 bit slots. They come with a regular and a half sized backplate (I don= 't=20 know if thats the right word), so they fit most anywhere. I also have a quadport of the same family that works well. Regarding your second question: yes, you can. The module will get loaded on= ce=20 for each NIC, and thats it. Have a nice day, =46rank On Tuesday 11 July 2006 22:36, Roy Pittman wrote: > Hi Everybody - > > I have searched the archives of this list and done some other searches > and can't find a clear answer: what gigabit NICs work well with > devil-linux? > > I have a related question: can a devil-linux gateway run two identical > NICs or must they be different brands or models (I ran into trouble with > this using Smoothwall - it saw two 3com 3c905b cards as one NIC only and > would not let me configure them separately)? > > If anyone can recommend cards or direct me to good information I will be > very grateful! > > Thanks, > > Roy > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Using Tomcat but need to do more? FYI - I did a grep on iptraf in the most recent changes file, and the most recent entry i saw related to it's removal, so I haven't installed a newer version in a while. I'm glad to hear that this has been put back in, so thank you! --Steven On 7/11/06, Serge Leschinsky <fi...@in...> wrote: > > Dear Richard, > > Tuesday, July 11, 2006, 1:44:36 PM, you wrote: > > > A long time ago, I used IPTRAFto monitor traffic. Hello, A long time ago, I used IPTRAFto monitor traffic. Since iptraf has been removed, what is the best way to do this now. For instance: I'd like to know who's using the largest amount of bandwidth, who'd trying to access certain ports, etc. IPTRAF was nice because it was very simple to use and didn't require configuration. My time is limited, so the easier it would be to set up the better. Thanks! --Steven |

Hi Everybody - I have searched the archives of this list and done some other searches and can't find a clear answer: what gigabit NICs work well with devil-linux? I have a related question: can a devil-linux gateway run two identical NICs or must they be different brands or models (I ran into trouble with this using Smoothwall - it saw two 3com 3c905b cards as one NIC only and would not let me configure them separately)? If anyone can recommend cards or direct me to good information I will be very grateful! Thanks, Roy |

Hello everybody! I installed a Devil-Linux router (V. 1.2.9) in our Network an need multicast-routing to run for our Novell-Clients. I googled the net for solutions and found a hint to add a static route for the multicast-net on the interface on which the novell-server resides. (http://www.informatikserver.at/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10074&Itemid=99999999). Thanks in advance, Alexander Roos |

Hello, using DSL now for a while i can state that it is a great system. I have installed it on the hdd of my laptops. The only point i missing is data security, especially on mobile systems. On my old win systems i have used the free truecrypt software for that purpose. Is it possible to install the linux version on DSL or is their a change to get it in the next release?
