I've been using Devil Linux since v1.2 on my old and formerly trusty Pent= ium 233 which breathed its last breath this weekend. So, being firewall'l= ess I purchased a new motherboard processor and RAM to replace the old bo= x. I was very excited to get some new gear and all of that, so imagine my= surprise when the box would not boot! The error that i'm getting is "VP_= IDE: Unknown VIA SouthBridge, disabling DMA". This error prevents the box= from booting any further (obviously). Hardware Spec: Motherboard: Asus P5V800-MX CPU: Celeron Memory: 512MB No Hard Disk CD ROM Floppy Pretty basic setup. I'm not a *nix ninja by any means. I can install it, mostly configure it = but I dont know alot about what goes on under the covers. However doing s= ome basic searches I found that other people have had the same issue with= other distros, notably the person with the same motherboard that posted = this thread. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions//showthread.php?t=3D441424 I've talked to a few friends who have mentioned that this version of devi= l linux probably just doesnt have support for this hardware yet. If that = is the case, will it support this any time soon or is there a way that I = can patch this to make it work. My other option is to return the hardware and pick up a new motherboard, = CPU and Memory that will hopefully be compatible. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a ton for your time :) |
