Could it be firewalling issue? Telnet is BAD, because even though the machine will not have contact, any other machine in your LAN that can see the traffic can see your root password when you su root. So, use SSH. For that you need to turn on the ssh service (/etc/sysconfig/config) and open port 22 on your firewall which I can't remember where the config file is, but if you find it that particular example is there so you just need to uncomment it. hi, thats easy: just boot up the DL-Box and login then type setup and configure the network. next enable the SSH-Service. Also you have to provide a password for root! Save your config. (from setup or from bash with save-config) Thats it! We don't include telnetd because of security implications. Enabling SSH is easy, simply tell it to start the service in 'setup'. If you're running a firewall (I don't know why you would be, since you're not concerned about security), you have to edit the firewall config (/etc/init.d/firewall.rules) and uncomment some lines to open up port 22 (comments in the file explain what to do). save-config, reboot. - BS |

Hi all,
=20
My boss wants to mount a firewall but he want it to boot =

PRIMERGY RX220 with what appears to be a Broadcom BCM5780. The problem =
is that the driver tg3 (wich is the driver used in other distros like =
endian firewall) doesn't work here. The output from lspci is: Ethernet =
controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5780 Gigabit Ethernet (rev =

=20
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

No you can't, the ISO file system is Read-Only by design. BUT, you could mount /opt to some other location, even the ramdisk/tmpfs. Just add it to /etc/fstab. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

Hello, So far just replacing the old glibc files is working. I hit another problem though. Here's the situation. I've created a PXE bootable version of devil-linux so that no cdrom is needed and everything is in RAM, some of the programs I have to run require write access though, I tried adding "rw" to the kernel append line before booting and while that worked for some directories like /root it did not work for other directories like /opt. The bad news is the program needs write access to /opt. I know it compromises security but is it possible to mount the file system as read/write? I think you can put rlm_exec.so to rewritable place (mkdir /etc/mylib/; cp ./rlm_exec.so /etc/mylib/ ) and either add path to /etc/ld.so.conf && ldconfig or use LD_PRELOAD. The question is - where seek this lib? In my environment it's absent. -- Best regards, Serge mailto:fi...@in... |

Unfortunately Kernel 2.6 has a lot of security and is still heavily modified. This is the reason why we don't use it. You can try and build a DL with the glibc 2.3.4, but many other things may break. Hello,
I recently downloaded devil linux 1.2.10-i686-SMP. I've been adding
files to it over the last couple of days to create a custom version but
I've run into a problem. A program that I would like to run requires
libraries which use glibc 2.3.4 or higher, and this version of devil
linux has glibc version 2.3.2. I really would like to continue using
devil linux since I've had success with it up until this point but I
can't do without glibc 2.3.4. It looks like devil linux 1.3 uses glibc
2.3.6 but I couldn't find any development downloads besides the source
of all the packages it uses. Is there an easy way to get or create a
devil linux version with a newer glibc?

After upgrading from 1.2.7 to 1.2.10, the network no longer initialised correctly. The log is shown below. The core problem seems to be that cardmgr exits before it is completely finished so the interface cannot be started correctly. I got around this by adding a delay in /etc/init.d/pcmcia after start. The workaround is fine for me, but a solution in the distro should possibly be different. Any suggestions? quagga is a fork/development of zebra, the original zebra project may not even exist I just looked briefly at quagga/zebra some time ago, before I relized that what I needed was a IGMP proxy. From what I remember, it was sufficient to specify "multicast" for the interface in the configuration. smcroute (http://www.cschill.de/smcroute/) is useful when troubleshooting multicast setup (instead of running the deamon). (The manpage has a few hints of files as well) quagga may not be handling multicast correctly? http://lists.quagga.net/pipermail/quagga-users/2005-March/004054.html Note: There is a kernel message at startup about "Multicast router 0.06 plus PIM-SM", but I believe this is just the kernel support for the service, though this may have been added after I last took a look at this. On 7/13/06, Alexander Roos <Ale...@ar...> wrote: > thanks for the reply! > > we do not use NAT and the firewall is off. it's just a router between client-net and server-net. you say that zebra can do multicast routing and zebra is now quagga, right? i have quagga running, but perhaps with the wrong configuration? |
