But no work is done in this direction yet, because we have to add scripts for all the stuff we currently just copy from the LFS system (like glibc). -- cu Heiko We are Penguin, Resistance is futile! http://www.devil-linux.org |

Might that be something we need in DL? Linux Stealth By Sean Trifero & Derek Callaway Linux kernel patch which discards packets that many OS detection tools use to query the TCP/IP stack. Hi, I wasn't that lazy this time on my vacation. Here are the changes I did: - program documentations/man pages are now included on the CD (not complete) - start wlan script at the end of the network init script - added linux-wlan-ng v0.14 - added PCMCIA-CS v3.2.0 as package - enabled Wireless Extensions and devices in Kernel - enabled PCMCIA and PCMCIA devices in Kernel - fixed dirty buffer problem while freeing InitRD memory The documentation part is not complete yet, I modified 1/3 of the scripts until now. There are 2 new commands in build/scripts/functions: copy_docs # copies the man, doc and info directories to the CD and removes the old ones. $1 is the base directory # when $1 is empty, the current directory is used copy_man # copies the man pages it finds in the defined directory to the CD. $1 is the base directory # when $1 is empty, the current directory is used Also the man program is missing. -- cu Heiko We are Penguin, Resistance is futile! http://www.devil-linux.org |

This email is to inform you of release '0.20' of 'VServer' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/vserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version includes more documentation in the package, the vrpm command has been enhanced to apply vunify to the packages it is updating immediately, and vserver now uses $@ instead of $*. The rebootmgr sysv script fixed, the vserver-stat now displays in Bytes instead of bits, and can now also display TB. Project description: VServer virtual servers operate like a normal Linux server, but allow many independent servers to be run simultaneously in one box. These can involve normal services such as telnet, mail, Web, and SQL servers - in most cases using a standard configuration. The services are unaware of the virtual server concept. Each virtual server has its own user account database and root password. Each vserver uses standard packages and runs at the same speed as a non-VServer installation. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. Sincerely, freshmeat.net |

This email is to inform you of release '2.3.8' of 'xinetd' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/xinetd/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release has complete protocol independence. --with-inet6 is now deprecated. Support for tcpmux, an inetd.conf parser, and DNS service registration via Rendezvous have been added. There are more parser and configuration checking cleanups, fixups for IPv6, and fixes for redirected services. Project description: xinetd is a replacement for inetd, the internet services daemon. Anybody can use it to start servers that don't require privileged ports because xinetd does not require that the services in its configuration file be listed in /etc/services. It can do access control on all services based on the address of the remote host, time of access, connection attempts, or process limits. Access control works on all services, whether multi-threaded or single-threaded and for both the TCP and UDP protocols. xinetd supports both internal access control, and the use of the libwrap library. IPv6 with access control is also supported. It can redirect service requests to other machines, and has the standard built in services, including tcpmux. This email is to inform you of release '1.28' of 'e2fsprogs' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/e2fsprogs/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release adds support for Hashed-Tree Directory Indexing to e2fsck, clarifies the e2fsck error message which is printed when it cannot find sufficient contiguous blocks when relocating filesystem metadata, adds support for building an EVMS plugin module for ext2/3, adds a new utility program (/sbin/findfs), and updates and clarifies various manpages. If there are no filesystems specified on fsck's commandline, it now treats that as if the -As options were given, Project description: The ext2fsprogs package contains essential ext2 filesystem utilities which consists of e2fsck, mke2fs, debugfs, dumpe2fs, tune2fs, and most of the other core ext2 filesystem utilities. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. This email is to inform you of release '2.00-pre8' of 'Syslinux' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/syslinux/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release mainly adds the ability for the installer to safely run setuid root. This allows a common user to run syslinux on any disk image or device for which they have write permission. Project description: SYSLINUX is a boot loader for the Linux operating system which operates off of MS-DOS floppies. It is intended to simplify first-time installation of Linux, rescue disks, and other uses for boot floppies. A SYSLINUX floppy can be manipulated using standard MS-DOS (or any other OS that can access an MS-DOS filesystem) tools once it has been created, and requires only a ~ 8K DOS program or ~ 16K Linux program to create it in the first place. It also includes PXELINUX, a program to boot off a network server using a boot PROM compatible with the Intel PXE (Pre-Execution Environment) specification, ISOLINUX, a program to boot off ISO 9660 CD-ROMs in native mode, and MEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy operating systems (e.g. DOS) using a Linux boot loader regardless of medium. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release displays the drive's internal buffer fill ratio, the minimal drive buffer fill ratio, the predicted buffer underrun count, and the real buffer underrun count (Ricoh, Aopen, Yahama only). New options include driveropts=forcespeed, driveropts=tattooinfo, and driveropts=tattoofile=name. This release includes the first support for Yamaha DiskT@2, fixes a mkisofs bug with UDF dir permissions, and adds several cdda2wav CDDBP enhancements. This email is to inform you of release '4.00' of 'Stunnel' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/stunnel/ The changes in this release are as follows: Added the ability to listen on multiple ports, a new user interface (with a config file), a Win32 GUI, a native NT/2000/XP service, delayed DNS lookup, and many other new features and bugfixes. Project description: The stunnel program is designed to work as an SSL encryption wrapper between remote client and local (inetd-startable) or remote server. It can be used to add SSL functionality to commonly used inetd daemons like POP2, POP3, and IMAP servers without any changes in the programs' code. It will negotiate an SSL connection using the OpenSSL or SSLeay libraries. It calls the underlying crypto libraries, so stunnel supports whatever cryptographic algorithms you compiled into your crypto package. This email is to inform you of release '1.9.7-rc2' of 'grsecurity' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/grsecurity/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release includes the new segmentation-based implementation of non-executable pages from the PaX team, which has all of the features of the previous page-based implementation, yet without the performance hit. The learning mode and new ACL features have been refined, and the ACL system has undergone a rewrite of the core code, which resulted in a 10x performance increase and much better stability. Gradm, the userspace ACL administration tool, has also been updated for this release. Project description: grsecurity is a complete security system for Linux 2.4 that implements a detection/prevention/containment strategy. It prevents most forms of address space modification, confines programs with least privilege via its process-based ACL system, hardens syscalls, and provides many of the OpenBSD randomness features. It has auditing capabilities and a netfilter module designed to thwart portscans and OS fingerprinting. Frankly, it still confuses me; this is deep kernel magic. It seems that the kernel actually detects the cd devices and makes the changes. I am going to burn an OS right now to test it. Len and Matt are very good, ask them if you have more questions. This thread has been going on for a month, at least. Hi,
The mystery of using cdrecord on an ISOLINUX is solved. This is from the
cdrecord support list:
Gist of it is:

This email is to inform you of release '2.1.9' of 'Cyrus IMAP Server' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cyrusimapserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release fixes a recently discovered problem in libcyrus which can result in corrupted mailboxes. Project description: The Cyrus IMAP server is generally intended to be run on sealed systems, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to Cyrus. All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in efficiency, scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent read/write connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server supports access control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox hierarchies, multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering language.
