Hello all,
Right now I am building a busybox w/ tinylogin that will include grub and
parted -- all from the latest sources.
From there I will startup a disk install and develop build and burn components
from build-iso with additions from the excellent lvm_createinitrd script.
It will be built w/ uClibc and I will try to include as many DL apps as I can
find time for -- including cdrecord.
I will also put the entire linuxfromscratch package install on a large
partition and begin the tedious process of giving this install a gcc suite
robust enough to build a kernel from the DL .config file with additions for
cdrecord/ide-scsi. I imagine other apps will require libraries from
Linuxfromscratch.
I will also look at Initrd itself to see where development is headed wrt to Bz2
and the Virtual file system -- rather than gzip and ramdisk.
As I go along I will be making changes to DL scripts esp initrd/linuxrc and
init/boot -- save-config needs to be modified to allow a "virgin save" to the
floppy... building an ext2 f/s and catting that to the floppy... hmmm...
I am getting a lot of downloads of the various tools I have. I want to get CVS
going but that is very tedious.
Cheers, having fun here hacking DL, John
=====

Yes, the point is to be able to build devil-linux on devil-linux. My implementation of DL is to provide very cheap server implementation to emerging nations. Heiko will be pleased to know that X11 is not considered desireable for this "market" I will be making more packages, and compiling specific kernels when I get the devil-linux in devil-linux build working. The eLSD package is derived/evolved completely from DL. It is tongue-in-cheek in the sense that it shows that a lot of different things can be done with simple tools. Unfortunately some weird scsi errors came out of the test suite which is the eLSD-0.3 hard drive install. But they dont seem to be causing anyh problems. eLSD uses the normal DL packages and eLSD applications will be in /opt only, where /opt/<app-name>/ is the directory and /opt/<app-name/bin, etc, lib, include exist as well as /opt/<app-name>/src -- this is important because there is a GPL requirement to supply source. I throw in the whole compile ;) It is called eLSD. Unfortunately my cable modem connection is down right now and I am not at home. Here is my usenet announce: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=john%40thinman.com&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&scoring=d&selm=e154927f.0209191045.6d63ccc3%40posting.google.com&rnum=1 I am sorry your first attempt at eLSD didnt work, but everything else up here is working. John Ps, I have the interest of an Ecuadorian college (yeah !!) and am planning Java implementations, although I know Perl and esp Ruby are the only true languages. --- Diego Torres <dt...@co...> wrote: > On Sat, Sep 21, 2002 at 09:51:02AM -0400, Heiko Zuerker wrote: > > > >>so should we switch to ide-scsi in general? > > >>What do other folks think about this? > > > > > >Why not? Bugs item #521940, was opened at 2002-02-24 03:12 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410643&aid=521940&group_id=34096 Category: Configuration / Scripts Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Friedrich Lobenstock (friedl) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: jftpgw needs user nobody Initial Comment: It's not very secure to let it run as root. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Friedrich Lobenstock (friedl) Date: 2002-09-21 18:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=38090 My English could be better I guess. Ok once more. When telling jftpgw in its config file to run as user nobody it does try to create its logfiles as this user too. Instead it should create them as root and then switch to the configured user. That's how all other daemons do it. Mailed the author of jftpgw, so we'll see what he has to say about this matter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Friedrich Lobenstock (friedl) Date: 2002-09-21 18:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=38090 User nobody now exists. An we have a new jftpgw version. Now this jftpgw is braindead because when setting it to run as user nobody I starts creating the logfiles not as root and then changing the user. We and up with a non functioning jftpgw. So jftpgw has to be run as root :-( Will try to file a bug report with them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Heiko Zuerker (smiley73) Date: 2002-04-09 00:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=112133 @friedl This is still open, or? The user nobody is added to the system, but we'ld have to change some more, e.g. start script. ;-) I have no jftpgw running, so I can't test it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Heiko Zuerker (smiley73) Date: 2002-02-25 02:46 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=112133 user nobody and group nogroup are now existing ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410643&aid=521940&group_id=34096 |
