You may want to try imaging to a different drive if accessible. Steve Sent from my BlackBerry Wireless ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Talley <ric...@gm...> To: clo...@li... <clo...@li...> Sent: Sun Jun 07 11:21:43 2009 Subject: [Clonezilla-live] "bitmap free count err" on Intel Mac I made a live CD with clonezilla-live 1.2.2-14 and attempted to image the disk of an iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz with 2GB of RAM running OS X 10.5.6). Imaging fails on the HFS+ partition with this error: "bitmap free count err, free:75837643" I see this has been discussed on this list before. Here stopped and nothing else happened (no screen or disk activity). Then, after passing ~10 minutes, I pressed ctrl-alt-del. Then followed the term signal, flashing reboot etc. Sigh! :-( I was reading today some pages for ext4 fs. I read at ext4 wiki, that installing grub on an ext4 partition is not recommended. Unfortunately, that's exactly what I've done! :-( Ubuntu uses a patch to boot from ext4, and I have the suspicion that maybe this is the reason for my grub problems. The exact text is: "Right now there's not a stable version of grub that supports booting a kernel from a ext4 partition. It's recommended that you keep /boot in a ext3 partition. . . . The grub package in Ubuntu 9.04 and later includes a patch to support booting from ext4 filesystems (see bug 314350)." The page is there: http://ext4.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Ext4_Howto I think that the problem is the ext4 grub ubuntu patch. If so, I'm thinking to roll back to ext3. Giorgos. :-) |

No "fetch=tftp://10.69.14.23/filesystem.squashfs" ? no "boot=live" ? For PXE booting Clonezilla live, you have to provide the root filesystem by fetch boot parameter. Otherwise definitely you will get "kernel panic". Please follow http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/livepxe.php to setup your PXE server. THANKS A LOT guys for your help!!! :-) > Which version of Clonezilla live did you use ? I used (at simple mode) a previous clonezilla version (before some time, latest stable at that time) to save the image, and the currently last stable live cd version to restore it (from sf.net v.1.2.2-14). (MD5 checked both and cds seems to be OK). > Is your /boot on ext4 file system ? Yes. My Ubuntu Jaunty (ext4) is at my first primary partition on the first disk (where the mbr is). I saved the image on the first primary partition, on the second disk (fat32 formated with gparted). At the first disk, I also have a second primary partition (with windows, ntfs formated), and an extented partition with 1 logical ntfs formated and the swap (logical) partition. > This is a harmless bug, please check: > http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=513216 Indeed, a google search reveals it on the first place, but I asked for help because of the grub restoration problem. :-) > 1. edit fstab to reflect current device file name > 2. install GRUB I reinstalled grub from ubuntu live cd (I've done it before, with ubuntu jaunty, which was ext3 formatted), and although it indicated that everything went OK grub was still messed at boot time and was trying to read from floppy. However, I didn't edited fstab before! :-( THANKS AGAIN for your help!!! :-) |

Hi Steve, Steve Poe wrote: > Steven, > > When we create an image, we use -t1 and -j3 (dd) options. We're on > Lenovo laptops running XP. In this case, you should see an error in red: "No source partition table file was assigned!" when you restoring the image. Didn't you see that ? To use "-k1", there must exist such a sda-pt.sf file so it can be a reference to create proportional partition table. Maybe something went wrong when you saved an image ? Normally no matter which advanced options you choose, a sda-pt.sf should be created. Please try to save it again. BTW, "-j3" is no more for a long time... Which version of Clonezilla live are you using now ? For linux image restoration, there are 2 thing you had to do manually 1. edit fstab to reflect current device file name 2. install GRUB to edit fstab $ sudo fdisk -l to check the right device name. Say your hd is /dev/sda and root partition is sda1, mount it and edit fstab accordingly $ sudo mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt $ sudo vi /mnt/etc/fstab to install GRUB $ sudo grub grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 to check where GRUB should be installed, say the output is (hd0,0) grub> root (hd0,0) grub> setup (hd0) output message should be positive and now you're done. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises > looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest > innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. Hi! :-) Some time ago, I made an image for my ubuntu jaunty partition (ext4 formated), with clonezilla live cd. Recently, after downloading the latest clonezilla version, I restored the image and after restoring the files, I received this error at grub restoration phase: Running: grub-install-no-floppy-root-directory=/tmp/hd_img.QiFQFv /dev/sda grub-probe: error: Cannot open '/boot/grub/devise_map' /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 374: [: =: unary operator expected Then the restoration just stopped, so after some time I pressed ctrl-alt-del and I restarted. My system became non-bootable (since grub was erratic), so I could only boot windows, booting from floppy (with gag). The usual way for restoring grub from ubuntu live cd not worked, so I made a fresh install (that corrected MBR) and I restored my image with clonezilla (at expert mode) unchecking (deselecting) the "Reinstall grub" option. OK! I'm new to Linux, so I need your help! :-) Everything seems to be OK now, but what went wrong? Thanks!!! :-) Giorgos. |

It's nothing to do with the partition table on the hard drive. This is a little complicated... "-k1" is different, it means clonezilla will create the partition table proportionally. Which one did you use ? Sorry, I have no idea about cobbler. What I mean is something like pxelinux (http://syslinux.zytor.com/pxe.php), and especially the config file as shown on http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/livepxe.php I am sure cobbler does have something similar to that.
