There is no good "fsck" tool for NTFS on linux, yes, ntfsfix is not really the one to fix all. Therefore the best way to fix it is do it on MS windows. Some workaround is you can enter expert mode, try to _NOT_ use any advance option of clonezilla "-q*" to force to use partimage to save that. Since partimage might not check the integrity of NTFS. Another one is try advanced parameter "-q", and then allow ntfsfix to fix your NTFS partition. Regards, Steven. If you hit F8 at exactly the right time while booting you may be able to
get to a windows recovery screen. Or boot the install CD and try the
'repair' option.

I all, I come from an hard debian intallation on external usb hard disk, and I wanna clone the usb disk content to avoid redoing further installation... On my locale hd I have windows vista , partitions hda0 (SO) and hda1(recovery), while on my usb hd I have lenny in partition sdb1 and sdb5(swap). I have read the sample from the site but there are some things not clears and that I would understand before committing mistakes. 1. Can I clone the Usb drive? (in the example only locale drive are mentioned) 2. Can I save the clone image in vista partition (hda0)? If so, can I be sure windows data are not overwritten? thanks all |

Hi Bill, 20070727-jaunty was released, and this issue should be fixed. Could you please give it a try ? Thanks. Steven. Clonezilla 1.2.2-26 has been released. This release adds the newer kernel 2.6.30-3 from backports.undebian.org, the new upstream syslinux 3.82, the newer partclone 0.1.1-15, and genisoimage instead of mkisofs. A workaround to avoid using partclone to save FAT filesystems has been added. The package smartmontools has been added. makeboot.sh has been improved to allow USB devices /dev/ub[a-z]. An option "--rescue" has been added in ocs-onthefly for partclone. Some bugs were fixed. Yes. This morning I tried the release 20090716-jaunty, and it does the
same thing.
To be more specific, I usually use the option to have the Windows name
changed based on the MAC address of the machine. I believe that it's
option h1? It worked with earlier releases, but does not seem to work
with the jaunty releases.
Thanks,

Steven:
I just used release 20090701-jaunty to restore some computer lab
machines, and they failed to modify the Windows XP machine name.
Machines restored with various earlier clonezilla live CD's worked fine.
Was this one of the bugs fixed in the 20090716-jaunty release?

Is that about the NTFS file system ? Anyway, Clonezilla should save the file system as an image and it should restore the image to a file system as it is before. Hi, I am playing with a Dell Mini that has a SSD hard drive. There was some discussion about setting the SSD to be aligned at 4K & I have noticed a speed benefit when setting the alignment with WinXP vs just installing XP. So I just made an image of my Win XP install with the 4k alignment. Will Clonzilla restore the partition table to the 4k alignment? I have been swapping between different clonezilla images that I have created. Using clonezilla is easy & quick but I want to make sure I maintain the alignment. Thanks, Rich |

In that case, maybe you can create the partition table on the target disk manually before you restore the image. Make sure the partition size must be equal or larger than the original one. Then when you restore the image, choose "-k" to use the existing partition on the target disk, and remember to choose "-r". Steven. Hello Clonezilla fans, I just made a Clonezilla live usb bootable stick, using the 20090701-jaunty.zip archive. All is well but my system (Debian) name usb devices with the /dev/ub[a-z][[:digit:]] form, and makeboot.sh doesn't accept that as a valid partition name. I modified the script this way (around line 70) : ###################################################################### # Make sure target_part is partition device name, not disk device name if [ -z "$(echo $target_part | grep -iE "/dev/[hsu][bd][a-z]+[[:digit:]]+")" ]; then [ "$BOOTUP" = "color" ] && $SETCOLOR_FAILURE echo "\"$target_part\" is NOT a valid partition name!" [ "$BOOTUP" = "color" ] && $SETCOLOR_NORMAL USAGE exit 1 fi ###################################################################### and then it ran fine. Maybe this could be corrected in the next update, I think newer Ubuntu also use the "ub[a-z]" names, and maybe other distributions as well. All the best, Tom |

Hi, I'm having an issue resizing a clone. I'm using clonezilla 1.2.2.14 The disk image is from a VirtualBox VM running Ubuntu with XFS it's 10 GB The target frive is 200GB HDD I can restore the disk image via clonezilla using a samba server. The problem I am having is that the default values give me a 10 gig root partition (same size as original) If I select expert options with -r and -k1 the / partition is resized but so is the swapfile. If I select -k1 without -r I can't boot the newly clones system. I guess my questions is can I get clonezilla resize my / partition but live my swap partiton size the same as it's original. Thanks, Frank |

I'd like it so when I put in a dvd that it boots clonezilla and then images the pc using am image stored on the same clonezilla dvd. My image is only 600mb so it would be great if I could get it and clonezilla on the same dvd media as well as get it to "auto-clone" Is it possible, are there any guides? |

Carl. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing that with us. The method is different from what we have used (i.e. live-helper) to create Clonezilla live, but some of the info are still very helpful. Thanks again. Regards, Steven. Carl Karsten wrote: > I am building a live cd and need it to accept ssh connections like the > clonezilla one. I am building a live cd and need it to accept ssh connections like the clonezilla one. I also need the user to be in the video group. Here are notes on what I have done so far: http://dvswitch.alioth.debian.org/wiki/livecd I can boot the CD, set a pw, add the user to video, restart X, everything seems to work. -- Carl K |
